A Dartmouth Class of 2011 Publication Year Zero - Issue One June 2011 Where Are We All Going? Your 2011 Senior Executive Committee solicited infor- mation from Dartmouth’s Class of 2011 over blitz, and we were overwhelmed by the number of responses! We have compiled the information into the following report and sincerely hope you enjoy learning about your class! Rob Avruch will be interning for Organizing for America, the grassroots division of President Obama’s re-election campaign, in Grafton County. Tommy Broth- ers will be the Student Director for SEAD. Jean Mason will be working in an artist’s studio. Matt Knight, Craig McConnell, Tim Vanderet, Alex Reeder, Phil Henson, Emily Mason-Osann, Thomas Lane and Alison Stace- Naughton will be attending Thayer School of Engineer- ing for the Bachelor’s in Engineering degree. Molly Grear will be working for the Forest Service as an Envi- ronmental Engineer in Ketchikan, AK and will then return to Dartmouth to complete the B.E. at Thayer. Chris Bilger will also be obtaining his B.E., and starting his Masters of Engineering Management. Kelly Mallery will be pursuing a Master’s in Science at Thayer. Emily Unger will also be taking classes at Dartmouth. John Underwood will be attending Dartmouth for graduate school in Earth Sciences. Will Sampson and Zachary Ingbretsen will be working in a neuroscience lab on cam- pus. Long Sha will be a research assistant tasked with “scanning brains” at a lab on campus. Anne Peale will be interning at Rauner Library. Jessica Son will be attend- ing graduate school at Dartmouth. James Mercado II will be finishing up school, and will be in the Baltimore/Washington area starting in summer 2012. Allie Lau and Tina Alexander will be fin- ishing their undergraduate degrees. Desiree Deschenie will be a super-senior as well, and hopefully attend the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction after completing her degree, before going to graduate school for education. Aaron Gaide will be finishing class while playing soccer for Dartmouth men's soccer team. Peter Sutoris will be graduating with the Class of 2012, since he took a gap year while at Dartmouth. Kaitlin Barber will be at Dartmouth for the summer conducting ecology research on damselflies. Jeremiah Watchman will likely also be at Dartmouth, and plans to apply to graduate school. Robyn Deakins will be student teaching in the fall to get teacher certified, and will possibly be teaching in the Marshall Islands for the remainder of the year. Similarly, Ben Kahn will be coming back to Hanover to complete his student teaching in secondary social studies, and then will possibly be staying on the rest of the year working for the Dartmouth Gospel Choir (He says, “After that, maybe I'll return to teach in the Marshall Islands, and then I'll go wherever the wind takes me”). Dwayne Alexis and Amy Stanesco will also be completing the Teacher Education Program. Andrea Imhof will be doing the same, and will (hopefully) be moving to Steamboat, CO in December when she fin- ishes the TEP program! Sam Lloyd will be working for Dartmouth. Erik Snider will be conducting research in the Chemistry Department. Caroline Moore will be a Studio Art Intern. Natalia Wrobel will also be interning with the Studio Art Department, and says: “if anybody needs/wants a painting for their new home, let me know!” Jaclyn Wypler will be the Dartmouth Organic Farm intern this summer, and then hopefully enroll in the Peace Corps or another type of volunteer or interim work for a year before attending graduate school in So- ciology. Sladjana Skopelja will be a Research Assistant working on Cardiology and Angiogenesis at DHMC. Sapna Chemplavil will be living in either Hanover or Norwich, working for Astrea Media and the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Greetings from your SEC treasurer! Congrats on our upcoming graduation. WOOHOO. I am writing to announce ourclass dues and to encourage you to contribute, as it will help our class remain strong in the coming years. Eachmember of a graduating or alumni class is expected to pay class dues, which are $35. This is not the same as theSenior Class Gift, which goes to the Dartmouth College Fund. Your contribution goes directly into our class treas-ury helping to fund our class activities.

Over the next five years, the SEC will sponsor mini-reunions throughout the country. You will also receive updateson your classmates through class newsletters, the Class of 2011 facebook page, the Class of 2011 alumni website,and the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Genevieve O'Mara will be in Spain, eitherteaching English or working on farms/vineyards. SarahYu will be in Shanghai while attending a graduate pro-gram in Chinese. Brandon Aiono will also be in Shanghai,China while working in Consulting and Market Research.Tarang Agarwal will be in Singapore working for McKin-sey. I am Shayla V. Mars and will be your president for the next 5 years! Woot Woot! I will be in charge of coordinatingquarterly calls with all the execs to make sure we are doing a good job of keeping our class connected. (i.e.- ourblog, our Facebook page, class website, e-mails, etc.). The purpose of SEC is not to only provide you with a ballersenior week, but to help us stay connected with each other, and with Dartmouth as well. That is our mission. Forthe next five years, we will be providing you with quarterly newsletters, mini-reunions (you can join the mini-reunioncommittee by emailing [email protected]), class projects, and of course interaction via social mediaoutlets. In order for us to be the best committee we can be, we ask that you send us information about your adven-tures in the upcoming years. Greetings, Dartmouth College Class of 2011!

This has been the first edition of your class newsletter: Life AfterCo11ege. Special thanks go out to Melanie Pastuck for creating the newsletterlogo which will surely be showcased at the head of every issue of this publication.We would also like to thank the Alumni Relations Office and our fellow members on the Senior Executive Committee for helping us get started.

But most of all, we wish to thank all of you for your overwhelming amountof responses to our survey request. As you can clearly see, this newsletter is andalways will be full of information on the Class of 2011, and we will continue tosend out open requests for information on each of your lives, wherever they maytake you after June 12th. We will put out four issues of Life After Co11egeevery year, and all articles, stories short and long, pictures, cartoons, text mes-sages, overheards, jokes, and Dartmouth memories would be welcome additionsto every issue. We want to hear about every twist and turn, every office party, everymini-reunion, every marriage, every vacation to an exotic paradise, and every tripback to the College on the Hill. Indeed, we will always be held together by thegranite of New Hampshire, no matter how large the world gets!
