A useful reference because I intend to work in on the Pacific Northwest coast. Arthur, Paul Longley. Toward a Global Digital History. Global Media Culture and Identity: Theory, Cases, and Approaches. Chopra, Rohit and Gajjala, Radhika. New York: Routledge, 2011. 175-187. Print. This is an essay that discusses our increasing reliance on digital technology and how digital media has saturated much of our culture. It is useful to my ‘anthropology’ because I intend on working in this digital age. Boas, Franz. The Aims of Anthropological Research. Anthropology in Theory. Moore, Henrietta L. and Sanders, Todd. Malden, MA: Blackwell Publishing, 2008. 26-35. Print. This is a crucial work that still impacts many Anthropologists and Archaeologists. I remember Boas because he was a scholar that warned against over-arching laws, stating that things we hold as firm truths are most likely subject to revision and change. Bourdieu, Pierre. Objectification Objectified. Anthropology in Theory. Moore, Henrietta L. and Sanders, Todd. Malden, MA: Blackwell Publishing, 2008. 169-178. Print. This is an important essay to my version of ‘anthropology’ because it questions the plausibility of ever being objective. It is important to me because objectivity is something I strive to achieve in professional work. Carper, R. G. Current Applications: Underwater Archaeology. Current Anthropology , Vol. 48, No. 6. 2007. 779. Web. This is Interesting to me because I want to research underwater archaeology; also I enjoyed the discussion Carper gives on possible submerged cultural remains on parts of the continental shelf. Castells, Manuel. Networks of Outrage and Hope: Social Movements in the Internet Age. Malden, Polity Press, 2012. Print. Talks of the crucial importance the Internet played in the many recent revolutions known as the Arab spring. This is key to my anthropology because it demonstrated the usefulness and exposure of social media to the Dumont, Jr., Clayton W. Contesting Scientists' Narrations of NAGPRA's Legislative History. Wicazo Sa Review 26, no. 1 (2011): 5-41. Web. This is an essay that reviews the efficacy and impact of NAGPRA. This is a key article to me because I work as an archaeologist. Erlandson, Jon M. A Land by the Sea: An Ocean View of California Archaeology. Contemporary Issues in California Archaeology. Jones, Terry L. and Perry, Jennifer E. Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast Press, 2012. 21-35. Print. This article by Erlandson covers recent and older issues in California Archaeology. Some of what is relevant to me is his discussion of shell middens, diet and settlement pattern of early Native American cultures of the Pacific Northwest.

It is useful to my ‘anthropology’ as a reference book. Findley, Roger W. and Farber, Daniel A. Environmental Law. St. Paul, Minnesota: West Publishing Company, 1990. Print. This is a book on environmental law. It is a very relevant to my anthropology because archaeology is directly related with environmental laws such as the California Environmental Quality Act.

This is an essay that analyzes of punitive measures used by humans. This is interesting to me because it not only discusses physical measures of control, but also mental.

It is relevant to my anthropology because I practice anthropology within a globalized world.

Heidenreich, Linda. This Land Was Mexican Once. Austin, TX: University of Texas Press, 2007. Print. This is a book that describes the history of California when it was settled by Mexicans. This is useful to me because I live and practice Archaeology in California.

Johnson, John H., et al. A Land of Diversity: Genetic Insights into Ancestral Origins. Contemporary Issues in California Archaeology. Jones, Terry L. and Perry, Jennifer E. Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast Press, 2012. 49-72. Print. Johnson discusses genetic research that was utilized to test theories on the peopling of California and the Americas. This relates to me because I am interested in that story of human history.

Jones, Terry L. and Klar, Kathryn A. A Land Visited: Reviewing the Case for Polynesian Contact in Southern California. Contemporary Issues in California Archaeology. Jones, Terry L. and Perry, Jennifer E. Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast Press, 2012. 217-235. Print. This is a very interesting essay that questions the possibility of Polynesian contact in Southern California. The Polynesian-contact idea sprang from the similar techniques used between the two cultures for constructing plank canoes, although till date there is no conclusive evidence of such contact.

King, Thomas F. Cultural Resource Laws and Practice. Lanham, MD: Rowman & Littlefield, 2012. Print. A useful source because I am an Archaeologist. It applies to me because I work in the field of cultural resource menagment.

Lattas, Andrew and Morris, Barry. The Politics of Suffering and the Politics of Anthropology. Culture Crisis: Anthropology and Politics in Aboriginal Australia. Altman, Jon and Hinkson, Melinda. Sydney, Australia: UNSW Press, 2010. 61-87. Print. This is a discussion of the politics common to Anthropology between anthropologists and native people. Even though written in Australia, the similarities between and the United States are sufficient to appreciate the message of striving to be culturally relative and culturally sensitive.

Sydney, Australia: UNSW Press, 2010. 17-31. Print. This is another essay from Australia that presents an Aborginal view on politics that directly affect them.

Rowse, Tim. Re-figuring ‘Indigenous Culture’. Culture Crisis: Anthropology and Politics in Aboriginal Australia. Altman, Jon and Hinkson, Melinda. Sydney, Australia: UNSW Press, 2010. 153-178. Print. This article questions the changes indigenous cultures endure throughout colonization. It is relevant to the United States as much as it is Australia.

Voss, Barbara L. A Land of Ethnogenesis: Material Culture, Power, and Identity. Contemporary Issues in California Archaeology. Jones, Terry L. and Perry, Jennifer E. Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast Press, 2012. 303-318. Print. This essay discusses the myriad Native American cultures that inhabit the diverse landscape of California. Relevant because I often study Native American cultures as an anthropologist.

Vonnegut Jr., Kurt. Wampeters, Foma, and Granfalloons. New York: Dell Publishing, 1974. Print. This discussion of humanness and cultural ties is key to my anthropology because it discusses cross-cultural similarity, something that I am interested in.
