OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

07/2015. In April 2015, T8 put into operation a 100G channel Moscow–Novosibirsk on Volga DWDM equipment without signal regeneration. The 100G channel was implemented in two routes — via Samara and via Yekaterinburg, with 1+1 redundancy. The length of two legs of the line is 4,250 km and 3,400 km, respectively. The channels were organized within the existing multiplex DWDM system built on equipment from international manufacturers. Equipment has proved to be efficient, thereby providing a substantial signal/noise margin on OSNR.

T8 is the leading manufacturer of wavelength-division multiplexing telecommunication equipment (DWDM and CWDM) in Russia and CIS countries. We develop and manufacture a line of DWDM and CWDM equipment with channel speed up to 400 Gbit/s. The entire T8 equipment is being designed and manufactured in Russia. Company headquarter is located in Moscow; there is a regional representative office in Saint Petersburg. There are over 200 staff members in the company, including 2 Professors and 17 PhDs.

The company got short-listed among the Top 10 of Russia most innovative companies according to the TECHUP-2014 rating and among the Top 30 rapidly developing companies according to TECHUP-2013. T8 has been a CNEWS AWARDS winner in “Russian Technologies” nomination. In 2014, the company won a competition of ROSTEC, Russian state corporation in the field of photonics with a project for a new DWDM system. In 2015, the company became the nominee for the «Industry» award.

A substantial part of our profit is re-investing to scientific research and development activities that allow us to manufacture world-class CWDM and DWDM equipment. T8 has the own R&D Center, “T8 Scientific and Technical Center” LLC, which is a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center, as well as the best-equipped measurement laboratory in Russia. Every year our specialists publish dozens of scientific articles in Russian and international journals. We obtain patents for new scientific research results year by year.

Based on researches performed in our R&D Center, we established several world records in 100 Gbit/s signal transmission:

•100G transmission over 4250 km in real Moscow - Novosibirsk DWDM system without dispersion compensator modules (DCM) or signal regeneration;

•10x100G transmission over 500 km in a single-span fiber optic line using of remote optically pumped amplifiers (ROPA)

High-speed multiservice and multiprotocol DWDM platform Volga consists of the range of chassis with different capacities and optimized for various optical network deployments: from compact solutions for density and distance increasing of existing city and regional networks or data center interconnect to organization of high capacity and long-haul transport infrastructure for multiservice optical networks. All chassis of DWDM-platform Volga use common software and hardware, control and monitoring systems, ensuring compatibility, manageability and interchangeability of modules in all product lines.

Transponders support various line speeds 400 (2x200), 200, 100, 40, 10, 2.5G. The hot upgrade without traffic interruption is possible. Coherent detection and SD-FEC/Soft-FEC in 400G/100/40/10G transponders makes the transmission characteristics of these transponders very solid and enables them to work in old lines together with existed 2,5G channels. Due to high fault-tolerance of 100G DWDM transponder, the transmission on distances of up to 4250 km without dispersion compensators in the line with cascade of amplifiers is possible, as well as the 500 km point-to-point transmission with the use of Remote Optically Pumped Amplifiers (ROPA). The newest 400Gbit/s equipment is intended for the organization of transport infrastructure of data centers and city networks.

Space efficiency in the rackA line of different form-factor chassis with 13 slots, 7 slots, 3 slots for the convenience of network construction and subsequent renovation and expansion of channel

Modules of the platform support OTN X-connect with capacity of switching matrix of 40 or 100 Gbit/s. The next generation of equipment will support OTN Switch with capacity of up to 1 Tbit/s. DWDM system Volga supports up to 96 channels in C-band and have an option of additional extension in L-band to achieve transmission capacity of up to 27 Tbit/s.

All Volga equipment provides a full support of OTN technology. System elements (optical transponders, amplifiers, aggregators, control units or power supplies) can be replaced in a hot mode, i.e. without turning off the equipment and traffic loss. Optical switching cards enable building 1+1 protection networks and ring topology networks.

Cross-Connect DWDM Platform Volga

The first Russian OTN cross-connector Volga performs digital switching of ODU0/1/2/3/4 streams in non-blocking mode with a total capacity of up to 900 Gbit/s. OTN cross-switch is in development.

OTN cross-connector provides telecom operator with a powerful tool for remote management of client traffic allocation over transport optical channels. With the OTN cross-connection, each client port is no more linked permanently to a particular transport channel (as in the muxponder): client traffic can be switched manually to any line interface using the management system, or switched automatically depending on the current load of transport channels. Efficient use of the huge bandwidth of the upcoming super-channels (500G, 1T) is possible only with the use of OTN cross-connectors with digital switching matrix. New cross-connector Volga will help telecom operators to achieve new level of network control and provide unmatched management flexibility.

Optical Characteristics

10-channel 10G transponder with Super-FEC supports any 10 Gbit/s data formats on client interfaces: 10 GE, STM-64 etc. Each client channel is converted in OTN OTU2 format and sent to the selected line port. All channels on the line side can be combined by an external multiplexer for transmission in a single fiber using CWDM or DWDM technology. Tunable SFP+ or “color” SFP/SFP+ with a fixed wavelength can be used on each line port. The use of standard SFP+ connectors significantly increases the cost-efficiency of the solution. High port density enables effective usage of the rack space. The device can be configures in 5-channel mode with a line redundancy 1+1. In this case each client channel is sent to two line ports: main and backup. These two line channels bearing the same client channel can be transmitted on different fibers or with OTN X-connect between the channels. The transponder supports Super-FEC error correction that guarantees a high quality of 10G signal. Equipment

Remote Optically Pumped Amplifier ROPAIncrease of spans between two network nodes due to remote amplification of signal

The use of ROPAs makes it possible to increase the distance between two network nodes. The ROPA is an erbium-doped fiber amplifier that is pumped remotely using wavelength 1480 nm either in working fiber or in an additional fiber. The device consists of two functional units: a passive unit (hermetically sealed box with a fiber-optic circuit) and an active unit (one or

two pumping lasers). Two types of ROPA configuration are used: with a backward pumping (i.e. the pumping is provided from the receiver side) and with a forward pumping (i.e. the pumping is provided from the transmitter side). Working modes of amplifiers and the gain in distance can vary in different configurations, and depend on the required link capacity.

Reconfigurable multiplexers ROADM-x/1 (x=2, 4,9) are intended for flexible routing and cross-connect of optical channels on core network nodes. Multiplexers ROADM-1T/40C enables you to extract several optical channels from input DWDM signal, and to add client channels into output DWDM signal. Multiplexers ROADM-x/1 (x=2,4,9) enables you to extract arbitrary channels from 2, 4, or 9 input DWDM signals and combine them into one output DWDM signal. An optical equalizer has one

DWDM input port and one DWDM output port. An output signal power in each multiplexer can be tuned channel-by-channel in the Network Management System (NMS) using internal attenuators. All ROADM units support the WSS redundancy that allows you to reconfigure the path of optical channel when receiving the control signal. This technology allows you to provide redundancy for high bit-rate channels 100G and 40G at a minimal cost. The reconfiguration of the route takes less than 40 sec.

Compact System Volga Metro is solution for regional and metro networks using DWDM or CWDM technologies. Main load is 10x10Gbit/s also you can use 100G or 400G. Network Management System NMS Fractal The optical network management system NMS Fractal is a multi-user, multi-level control environment, and is intended for operation control and monitoring of digital transport systems PreOTN, OTN, including DWDM, CWDM. «Fractal» provides network configuration management, monitoring and management of troubleshooting, quality management and security management, as well as logging. Flexible filter settings allow you to quickly and accurately analyze the operation of the system and identify pre-emergency situations in the early stages. Thus, the level of equipment management is combined with the elements of the network management layer. NMS supports the following main functions:

Configuration management•Setting the parameters of network elements,

including the input of passive network elements that do not have electronic identification elements (microcontrollers);

•Synchronization of NMS databases and network element for all supported types and versions of network elements;

Research and Development Center The biggest Russian competence center for fiber optics

The Scientific and Technical Center T8 has completed the development of a high-speed dense wavelength division multiplexing platform with total bandwidth of 27 Tbit/s.

The T8 research laboratory was established in 2013. The laboratory of the T8 Scientific and Technical Center carries out research in the field of laser physics and optical science. The T8 Scientific and Technical Center is a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Telecommunications field is a priority for the laboratory. The majority of research is done for T8, but the center also carries out research and development as a commercial service. Long-distance data transmission is a priority research and development area.

The T8 Scientific and Technical Center measurement laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and is the largest in Russia. More than 200 devices are available for performing experiments and research on optical effects. The key scientific developments of the laboratory are covered with patents.

The Center keeps working to reduce the dependence on imported components. The 100G optical module based on discreet elements has been completed. This module is to be the heart of the next-generation system. At that, the use of Russian-made 100G module instead of foreign analogues is an important step towards the further development of the Russian optical telecommunication systems.

One of the critical areas of the center research is development of a platform supporting up to 40 Tbit/s per single fiber. In order to implement the project, the team is working on technical solutions for transmission of up to 400 channels in a 25 GHz grid. In addition, the developing of a 1-Tbit/s bandwidth DWDM platform with OTN cross-connect is continuing actively. Transponders and aggregators with OTN cross-connect matrix with a capacity of 40 Gbit/s are already available for customers.

All equipment being developed is fully compatible with the Volga platform. T8 Scientific and Technical Center specialists regularly participate in scientific conferences and publish articles in leading Russian and international scientific journals. DWDM Network Designs and CalculationEngineering department of the company performs calculation of DWDM networks of any complexity in short terms. Our engineers calculate more than 200 projects every year, and dozens of them reach the practical implementation stage.

Based on initial data provided by customer (scheme of the network and distances between nodes, type and quantity of fibers on each span, plans of the network development) the engineering department solves the following tasks:

•Development of a channelizing scheme and a principal scheme of the network

•Calculation of estimated quality of transmission in designed communication channels, and network reliability analysis;

•Optimization of networks to decrease capital and operating expenses.

We have a profound experience in designing telecommunication systems based on new formats of modulation of the optical signal. We developed methods of optimization that make it possible to achieve optimal performance for combined networks where both coherent channels 100/200 Gbit/s and noncoherent channels 10 Gbit/s are transmitted simultaneously. Due to this our customers successfully put in operation 100G channels on an old infrastructure that was intended for 10G channels.

We use self-engineered specialized software for most effective design of DWDM networks. For calculation of networks of high complexity a working group is usually created with experts of R&D department of the company. R&D department performs theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of DWDM networks of complex topology, simulation of new components (optical amplifiers, transponders and other devices), simulation and analysis of linear and nonlinear effects using the OptSim™ software and other tools.

In existed DWDM lines there are passive dispersion compensators, which were placed at intermediate amplification nodes. The most economical way of the bandwidth Increasing of such a lines is step-by-step substitution of “old” low speed channels on “new” higher speed channels. In this case for the long time period it is possible coexistence of channels of different speeds and different modulation formats like 10G NRZ, 40G DPSK, 100G DP-QPSK, 200G DP-16QAM. In these configurations there is a necessary to use periodical passive dispersion compensation. T8 engineers investigated functionality of the 100G transponders in DWDM line with periodical dispersion compensation. The OSNR margin in 1600 km DWDM line is equal to 7.5 dB.

Coherent DWDM systems of a new generationThe use of coherent transponders makes it possible to build DWDM lines without passive dispersion compensators. Mathematical dispersion compensation takes place in the receiver’s DSP (digital signal processor).

Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) uses standard single-mode optical fiber (G.652) as highly-effective distributed sensitive element, detecting soil vibrations (acoustic vibrations) at distance of up to dozens of kilometers along the optical cable. Dunay system Hardware detect, localize, classify and alert on activity along the entire length of the cable. It offers cost-effective method of around-the-clock automated environment activity monitoring over long-distance linear objects.

«Dunay» system is designed in 3U chassis to be installed in standard 19” telco rack. Chassis has three slots for: receiving/transmitting unit (coherent reflectometer), amplifier module, and industrial computer for data processing and transmission to remote server. «Dunay» system can operate independently or may be integrated to any exiting security system. Open API allows developers connect Dunay system to all modern security applications using Ethernet channels.

The system operation is based on coherent reflectometry principle. Optical impulses are sending to the fiber periodically, part of the light is backscattered by fiber irregularities. Fiber microdeformations caused by vibro-acoustic impact change the parameters of the scattered (reflected) signal. The changes in the backscattered signal interference pattern analyzing to identify the spot and nature of the impact on fiber.

One of the main Dunay applications is the development of early detection systems for critical infrastructure. Since an acoustic sensor allows detecting signals from sources located at dozens or even hundreds of meters from a source, a system operator gets an alarm signal before a trespassing. One standard optical block of the system monitors a zone of up to 40 km, or up to 75 km with remote signal pumping (ROPA).

Dunay detects: various events throughout a zone with an accuracy of 10 meters: approach to a guarded zone, movement along the border, or trespassing the monitored zone border. Detection accuracy increases
