9:30-10:30 a.m. – February 11 meet in SF Cafeteria

Wednesday, February 14 – No Session
Wednesday, February 14, 20177:00 p.m. in the ChurchAsh Wednesday Mass
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent for
Catholics. The ashes we receive on our forehead in
the shape of a cross serve as an outward sign of our
sinfulness and need for penance. The ashes also
symbolize our mortality, a reminder that one day we will
die and our bodies will return to dust. Ash Wednesday is
also a day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics
NOTE: We will first attend the Ash Wednesday Mass in the church, then gather in the School Library after the Mass to finalize plans for the Rites of Sending/Election.
FAITH FORMATION
Confirmation: What would Jesus Do: A Lesson on the Beatitudes – Is there a right way to live? What do I need to do to be happy? Christ gives us eight ways to live in the world as he intends. Through the Beatitudes, we begin to live the Kingdom here on earth. Sunday, 12:00-2:00 p.m. in the SF Cafeteria.
Elevate: Lent – Lent is a season of preparation for the Easter Season. For 40 days we fast and pray, just as Jesus did in the desert before he began his ministry. We examine our lives, prepare the way for our Lord. Sunday, 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

LENTEN ACTIVITIES AT ST. FRANCIS DE SALESPlease join us on the Wednesdays of Lent, beginning this Wednesday evening (Ash Wednesday), at 6:00 p.m. in the church for Liturgy of the Hours evening prayer. This is the prayer of the church worldwide and a wonderful way to deepen your Lenten experience. Handouts will be available, but we ask that all who are able to please download the FREE iBrievery app from the app store or Google play store in order to follow along with responses. This is also a great way to prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist at Mass directly following at 6:30 p.m.
Please Note: We will not be hosting Soup Suppers this year, but want to thank Jean Flowers and Jack Mueller for their leadership in organizing these dinners in years past!
We will continue a St. Francis tradition of walking the Stations of the Cross during Lent. Meet in the church at 7:00 p.m. each Friday to be lead in prayer and meditation through the Stations of the Cross, where we commemorate Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as a man. The 14 stations may be thought of as a mini pilgrimage as we move from station to station, recalling the specific events from Christ’s last day. Please join us!
The Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
LENTEN ACTIVITIES AT ST. FRANCIS DE SALES CONTINUED.....
Parish Mission with Father Thomas Blau, O.P. – Understanding God’s MercyFebruary 25-28, 2018, 7:00-8:30 p.m. each evening
Father Blau’s Mission on Mercy will be nestled into the Alpha experience and it is so important, we will break from Alpha during this week. His message of God’s Mercy fits well with the Alpha experience and exploring our faith and the inexhaustible mercy of God. Invite family and friends for this encounter with Jesus and His Mercy. Father Blau will be with us for four evenings! Please join us…All are welcome!
40 DAYS, 40 CANS: A CAN-A-DAY FOR LENTAs we prepare for Easter and the Resurrection of the Lord, consider making a sacrifice for the hungry of our community. The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is sponsoring a “40 Days, 40 Cans” campaign. Each family is asked to donate 40 cans to the pantry as their “works of love” during Lent. The pantry is in need of canned fruit, beans, soup, spaghetti sauce, skillet dinners and personal items (toilet paper, toothpaste, laundry detergent). Families may also make a monetary donation to the pantry by placing a check in the offering, listing the food pantry in the memo section of the check. Thanks for thinking of the pantry during this most holy season.
Listen to Catholic Radio AM 820 this Lent! Try something new during Lent and consider listening to Catholic Radio AM 820; it is a good way to deepen your knowledge and love of the Catholic faith.
AROUND THE PARISH
Update on the loss of church funds:I spoke with the assistant prosecutor this week. As you know, before my arrival here, the parish found evidence of the misappropriation of church funds.
This was reported to the police. Evidence was gathered and turned into a forensic investigator/accountant. Unfortunately, this investigator had to take another case recently, because the statute of limitations was running out on that case. This past week, he communicated with the prosecutor that due to the other case taking up so much time, he has asked and received approval from his supervisor to assign our case to another forensic accountant, in the hopes that the report will be completed more quickly. Once complete, the report will be given to the prosecutor’s office for an indictment against the accused person. Indictments in these types of financial cases, I was told by the prosecutor, can take about one to two years and convictions can take up to three years. I will continue to keep the parish informed as I am informed.
– Fr. Dave

The Respect Life Group would like to extend a huge THANK-YOU to all of our St. Francis brothers and sisters for the outstanding response to the “GIFTS FOR BABY JESUS” program. As always, the generosity and support was outstanding, and benefits Heartbeats of Licking County, our local pregnancy center. Every week in January, the steps in front of the Crèche were covered with beautiful and useful baby clothing and items, that resulted in numerous trips to Heartbeats each week. May Our Lord Jesus bless you for being His heart and His hands.Heartbeats of Licking County is a wonderful organization offering many resources for women and families facing unexpected pregnancies. Their annual report last year showed that they saw 1,182 clients, with
59% between ages 15-24 (164 babies were born to those clients). At least 8 babies were delivered by abortion-minded women. Please pray for innocent lives to be protected at all stages of life from conception to natural death.

The ROSARY…and Pope Francis…
Two weeks ago, on Sunday, January 28th, Pope Francis, traveled from the Vatican to the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome to celebrate Mass. There was a sentence in his homily that morning about Our Blessed Mother that really stands out. Quote: “Where the Madonna is at home, the devil does not enter; where there is the Mother of God, disturbance does not prevail and fear does not win.” Our Holy Father continued that when we go through difficult times in our lives, MARY IS OUR SHIELD…GUARDING AND PROTECTING US FROM EVIL. Quoting him again: ”Who of us does not need this, who of us is not sometimes upset or restless? How often the heart is in a stormy sea where the waves of problems overlap, and the winds of worry do not cease to blow? Mary is the sure ark in the midst of the flood.” Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio became our new Pope on March 13, 2013 (3-13-13). His very first action that next morning was to kneel in prayer at the foot of this same altar, asking God for His guidance and blessing…he carried a bouquet of flowers for Mary in his hands. Pray for Pope Francis every day. He has the toughest job in the world…he is the Vicar of Christ on Earth.Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
