Secretary Tehsil North Manzoor Ahmad Bhat Weed out black sheep from ranks: Salah-ud-Din to separatists Srinagar, Feb 19: The Hizb- ul-Mujahideen supreme com- mander, Syed Salah-ud-Din, on Wednesday asked the sep- aratist leadership to purge their ranks of all black sheep and stressed upon them to forge unity on the basis of ideology and principles to take the mission of martyrs to its logical end. “The youth are, day in and day out, offering supreme sacrifices of their life for the cause of freedom. Despite extremely odd and perilous situation, the mili- tants of Kashmir are keeping alive the torch of freedom movement by fighting the armed forces and inking his- tory with their blood. Over seven lakh armed forces have so far failed to dampen the resolve and courage of the militants who are continu- ing their armed struggle,” a spokesman of Hizb, in a state- ment, quoted Salah-ud-Din as saying while addressing a special session of outfit com- mand council. Salah-ud-Din called upon the Kashmiri leadership to “throw out black sheep from their ranks and show due regard and respect to the blood of martyrs.” Salah-ud-Din has appealed to the people of Jammu Kashmir to boycott the parliamentary polls, “for New Delhi is using the people’s participation in the elections against our free- dom movement at political and diplomatic levels”. He asked the Pakistan rulers to extend political, diplomatic and moral sup- port to the Kashmir freedom struggle for its success. “He also paid glowing tributes to recently martyred militants including Wasim Ahmad Dar of Dogripora, Pulwama, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat of Charsoo Awantipora, Javid Ahmad Mir of Nawgam Qazigund and Muhammad Shafi of Zaloora, Sopore, reiterating the pledge to take the mission of martyrs to its logical end,” the statement added. Sharma, Veeri lock horns in LC UMER MAQBOOL Srinagar, Feb 19: The ruling Nation- al Conference Wednesday faced embarrassing moments in the Leg- islative Council a senior minister of its coalition partner Congress, Sham Lal Sharma said that he is ready to furnish proof that NC lawmaker ,Bashir Ahmad Veeri, was trying to seek undue favours from him. As question hour began, Veeri got up and accused Sharma of tarnishing his image by level- ing “false allegations” against him in the House yesterday. On Tuesday, Sharma had accused Veeri of approaching him for seeking transfers of two Junior Engineers. Besides, Veeri was also accused by the Minister of kidnapping a driver deputed by the Public Health Engineer- ing Department for drilling bore wells in Bijbhera area of south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. “The Minister has ques- tioned my integrity. I want to set the records straight. I have not sought any favour for my family but I want to set the system on right path,” Veeri said. However, Veeri admitted that he had approached the Minister to get the engineers transferred, “who had managed posting at single place for last 10 years.” He also demanded that Sharma should apologize for using “unparliamentarily lan- guage” against him. On this, the Minister said that he is ready to produce the letter written to him by Veeri. “He (Veeri) is at liberty to move a breach of privilege motion against him,” Sharma said Later, Chairman Amrit Mal- hotra intervened and pacified both the legislators. “The Minister is twisting the facts to hide ineffi- ciency of his department. Bear mauls man in Baramulla Srinagar, Feb 19: A man was injured in a bear attack in north Kashmir Baramulla district last evening. Police said Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh resident of Agmona Kunzer was attacked by a bear near Hari- watnoo Tangmarg. He was injured in the attack and shifted to JVC Srinagar for treatment. Kashmiri endocrinologist named convenor of PCOS research group New Delhi, Feb 19: Noted Kashmiri endocrinologist, Dr Muhammad Ashraf Ganie, has been designated convenor for Androgen Excess–Polycystic Ovary Syn- drome (AE-PCOS) Research group for South East Asia. Currently working as senior consultant Endo- crinology and Metabolism at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, Dr Ashraf Ganie was recently invited to deliver an oration on "Indian PCOS phenotype" as a lead for regional research group at the 11th Annual AE-PCOS Society meeting held in New Port Rhode Island (USA). Dr Ashraf has, during his tenure as Associate Professor Endo- crinology at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, conducted extensive research on PCOS, a lifestyle disorder highly prevalent in Kashmir. PCOS, a very common disorder in India, is characterized by irregularity or scantiness of menstrual cycles in women associated with unwanted male pattern hair growth, obesity, infertility and several other metabolic distur- bances. Justice (Retd) Imtiyaz Hussain's book released SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI Srinagar, Feb 19: A book Supreme Court and High Court Judges Condi- tions of Service authored by Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain, former Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, has been released. In the book, Justice Imtiyaz, who is presently member, Jammu and Kashmir State Accountability Commission, traces the history on the establishment of the Supreme Court of India and gives detailed information about the formation, composition and working of various High Courts in India. The method of appointment of Judges, issues relating to the trans- fer of Judges and other related issues on the conditions of service of the Judges have also been dealt with in detail. The book also contains cases and laws of the Supreme Court and High Courts on some of the debated issues. Meanwhile, Judges of the Apex Court and High Court have appre- ciated the efforts of Justice H. Imtiyaz Hussain in compiling such a comprehensive book on the subject. The book has been published by the ‘Srinagar Law Journal Publications’, Srinagar, Kashmir. Students irked over snag in KU website Srinagar, Feb 19: Students wishing to apply for M. Ed course have alleged that the Kashmir University website does not have the required option. “The KU website is unable to fetch student details online as adver- tised by the varsity officials. When we manually type it, there is no option for applying for M.Ed course,” said a delegation of students. “A number of students are outside the state and given the state of affairs of KU website, they are unable to apply,” they said appealing the concerned KU officials to look into the matter. Akhtar slams NC-led govt on budget Jammu, Feb 19: Peoples Democratic Party legislator Nayeem Akhter Wednesday slammed ruling Nation- al Conference for having “one point agenda of handing over control, be it political or economic, to New Delhi”. The PDP MLC said that the budget document tabled before the state legislator was “not at the face of it that of 21st century but rather of 20th century”. “The Finance Minister, with whom I have worked in past, has a personal milestone as this was his 14th budget tabled before the state legislature”, he said reminding that Rather had for the first time in 1983 presented the budget and during the last “30 years he has guided Finance Department and the economy of state,” Akhter said while participat- ing in the budget discussion in Upper House today. “Of the remaining 30 per cent, which was under the control of the state government has, over the last five years, been passed on a platter to the Centre”, he claimed adding that in this budget, the state plan on which the government now has control is just 22 per cent. “The 88 per cent is conceived, approved and financed by New Delhi”.
