OAK WOODS NATUR E CE NTE R

C A M P I N G · L O W E R H U R O NFamily rustic camping is available the � rst weekend in May through mid-October at Lower Huron Metropark’s 27-site Walnut Grove Campground. Tents, campers, and motor homes are allowed. Water and electricity are not available at the campsites. Modern restrooms are located at Walnut Grove. Shower facilities are available 8 a.m. - 10 a.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day, at Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center. An RV dump station is available. A permit is required to camp.

C A N O E I N G A N D K A Y A K I N GBring a canoe or kayak to paddle the river; an overnight camp is available at Lower Huron, permit required.

C O N C E S S I O N SFood and beverages are sold at The Grille in Lower Huron’s Turtle Cove (no outside food/beverages permitted in Turtle Cove) and the food bar at Willow pool. Packaged snacks are sold at Washago Pond. Availability will vary depending on the season.

Food and beverages, including beer, wine, and liquor are sold at Willow’s Golf Starter Building. No outside alcoholic beverages or coolers allowed.

D I S C G O L F · W I L L O WA 24-hole disc golf course is located in Acorn Knoll picnic area. An annual bag tag, which gives unlimited play at all Metropark courses, or a daily wristband, is required to play.

E Q U E S T R I A N T R A I L SO A K W O O D SIndividuals with their own horses may use the four equestrian trails. The staging area is located near the railroad crossing. A release waiver and bridle tag are required in advance. To obtain a waiver and bridle tag, please contact the Nature Center.

F I S H I N GFish along the river shoreline at any of the parks, or at Washago Pond in Willow Metropark. A Michigan Fishing license is required.

G O L FR E G U L A T I O N · W I L L O W7 3 4 -7 5 3 - 4 0 4 0This 6,394 yard, 18-hole, par-71 course and driving range o� ers power carts, pull carts, and clubs for rent. Senior (55+) and junior (20 and younger) rates are available. Some restrictions apply.

G R O U P C A M P • L O W E R H U R O NA group camp has overnight and day camping year-round for organized youth groups. Registration and permit required.

H I K E - B I K E T R A I LA 15 mile paved hike-bike trail connects Lower Huron, Willow and Oakwoods Metroparks for a 30 mile round trip. The path continues through Flat Rock to Lake Erie Metropark for an extended ride. Pets on a six foot leash are permitted.

N A T U R E / R U S T I C T R A I L SSelf-guided trails traverse woodlands at Lower Huron and Oakwoods Metroparks.

P E T SDogs and other pets are permitted in the parks only when kept on a six foot (or less) leash. Pets are not permitted in the nature areas, buildings, on the equestrian trails, cross-country ski trails, or golf course.

P I C N I C STables, grills, and shelters are located throughout Lower Huron and Willow. Tables and grills are available at Oakwood’s Cedar Knoll picnic area. Please register with the Park O� ce if you have a group of 50 people or more. Shelters can be reserved for a fee.

P L A Y G R O U N D SAt Lower Huron, playgrounds are located at the Woods Creek and Ellwoods picnic areas. At Willow, there is a large playground, near the pool, and another near Washago Pond. Swings and slides can be found throughout picnic areas at Lower Huron and Willow.

R E N T A L C E N T E R · W I L L O WThe Rental Center at Washago Pond rents single and tandem bicycles, paddleboats, and rowboats. Deposit required.

S W I M M I N G P O O L · W I L L O WEnjoy the swimming pool, the wide family slide, water basketball, or the shallow area. Pool is open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. weekends and holidays, Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Hours may be reduced from mid-August through Labor Day.

Cross-country skiing is also allowed throughout Lower Huron Metroparks with the exception of the golf course and the group camp area. Trails at Lower Huron are not marked or groomed.

ICE FISHINGAt Willow Metropark, ice � shing is permitted on Washago Pond. A Michigan Fishing license is required.

ICE SK ATINGAt Lower Huron, the Foxwoods Picnic Area o� ers two natural ice skating rinks on ponds. Heated restrooms are nearby and are open until 9 p.m.

SLEDDING HILL SA sledding hill is located near the Washago Pond Picnic Area and is lighted at night until 9 p.m. Sledding at the Chestnut Picnic Area is open 10 a.m. to dusk.

N A T U R E T R A I L SThe nature trails at Oakwoods Metropark are comprised of 400 acres featuring an ancient sandbar, a paddle trail for canoeists, six nature trails, and a butter� y viewing trail.

S P E C I A L E V E N T SThe Interpreters invite you to participate in nature walks, special events, and programs. These are o� ered periodically throughout the year. Schools, scouts, and community groups events can be arranged.
