COVID-19 Update

As the spread of COVID-19 continues rapidly, the University of Nebraska is taking several steps to help protect the health of all Nebraska. Nebraska Extension is fully committed to the health and well-being of Nebraskans. In a disease situation like COVID-19, the principle of social distancing is one of the main methods that can be used to help reduce the spread of the disease.

The principle we are following is ‘social distancing’ where CDC recommends a 6 ft. halo between people to minimize the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission.

Where is Extension 4-H at currently:

Teaching or gathering events between now and May 9 can only be delivered remotely (Zoom or teleconference).

This defines teaching or gathering events as any setting where people might come together. Starting March 16 through May 9, all 4-H events/activities/meetings have been cancelled. Events currently scheduled after May 9 will be yet be determined on a day by day basis. Please stay tune for further announcements. Thank you for your patience as we move through the tremendous amount of change occurring as a result of this global pandemic.

We are continuing to plan for summer events and will make determinations one month in advance of the event and continue to monitor the situation up to the event.

Summer Project Suggestions

Recently we’ve received lots of questions surrounding the fair. While there are a lot of unknowns yet with COVID 19, we want to leave you with something to think about. If you are in 4-H so you can become a better citizen or learn about goal setting or gain effective

leadership skills………. get the animal or do the exhibit project.

If you are in 4-H so that you can develop a sense of belonging, mastery, independence and generosity ……….get the animal or do the exhibit project.

If you are in 4-H so you can learn about resilience, determination and never giving up hope (even in the middle of a pandemic)………. get the animal or do the exhibit project.

Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (Quality Assurance)

YQCA will be offering a 25% off flash sale from April 1-30th, 2020. This will make the cost of the web based training $9. To take advantage of this discount, families must purchase coupons through [email protected] with a P.O. or check only using the order form. These coupons must be used during April.

There will be no Zoom classes or any other virtual training tools to present instructor led trainings. We appreciate your patience while the YQCA National Board will continue to monitor the situation and reevaluate as they know more about the Covid-19 situation.

Those wishing to take part in the flash sale will need to purchase $9 web-based training coupons from YQCA. Coupon order forms can be obtained by emailing [email protected]. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO RECEIVE THE DISCOUNTED PRICE.

Once the order form and proof of payment is received, coupons will be issued and returned to the purchaser within 3-5 business days.

Coupons MUST be used towards a web-based training by April 30, 2020.

We recognize those who have typically utilized the instructor-led training option may be unfamiliar with what users receive with their registration fee. We have identified those items below :

• Each session purchased includes three modules – a knowledge builder, a skills lab, and a quiz.

o The knowledge builder is where content is delivered, the skills lab provides an opportunity to

apply the content, and the quiz tests knowledge. To receive a certification, an 80% must be

achieved on the 10-question quiz.

o These modules, completed in their entirety, will provide 2-3 hours of an experience for users.

• Features of the online modules include:

o Characters at each age level to guide youth through the course o Free navigation within the course so youth can spend as much or as little time on a particular topic

based upon their personal needs

o Variety of learning opportunities to accommodate various learning styles and modalities

o Audio button on each slide so youth can listen to audio rather than read the on-screen text

Even though staff in Boone & Nance County Offices still intend to offer the face to face YQCA sessions during May/June, we don’t know how long the current situation in our country will last. The web-based training is one option to consider now. We’ll keep all livestock exhibitors informed of any changes in the future.
