Other officers installed ware: Patron, George Isley; associate matron, Mrs. Bessie Nichols; secretary, Mrs. Pearl Gouger; treasurer, Miss Nellie Boyce; conductress, Mrs. Samantha Isley; associate conductress, Mrs. Lena LiUdle; chaplain, Mrs. Georgianna Porter; marshal, Mrs.- Bernice Meeker; musician, Mrs. Mildred Moloney; warder, Mrs. Laura La Fountain; Ruth, Mrs. Reba Parent; Esther, Mrs. Amy Donovan; Martha, Mrs. Lena Ensser; Electa, Mrs. Estella Harrig.
Mrs. Bessie Nichols acted as installing marshal; Miss Nellie Boyce was assistant installing marshal; Mrs. Georgianna Porter was installing chaplain.
Mrs. Nichols, retiring matron, received several gifts from officers and members of the chapter. The district deputy-grand matron, Eloise Bates, has scheduled her of ficial visit for June 10, it was an nounced.
The chapter recessed for the winter and will reconvene March 23.
Grade Pupils Organize Safety Club at School
Forestport, Jan. 14 — Pupils of the fifth and sixth grades of Forestport Central School have formed a Safety Club with Dorothy Delaney as president; George Ferjet, vice-president; and Patty Lou Avery, secretary.
Safety patrols have been named to see that safety rules are obeyed in the halls and at the loading and unloading of the busses. Bobby Coscomb is in charge.
The children have written safety songs and drawn up the safety rules. Any student caught violating them will be tried before the officers of the club.
RIFLE RANGE WILL BE 0PM THURSDAY
New Practice Gallery for Civilian Use Ready for
Ceremony Boonvtlle, Jan. 14 — The Boon-
ville Civilian Defense Rifl.> and Pistol Range will be officially opened by Mayor Vaughn Thursday at 7:30 p. m. Mayor Vaughn will fire the first official volley, the next volley will be fired by Glenn W. Daniels, director of Boonville's Civilian Defense program; these will be followed by volleys from Fire Chief Reams Chiec of Police Conway, representatives from the Herald Office; E. A. Hargrave, president of the Board of Education; and other village officials, representing civic and fraternal organizations. Due to a schoolmaster's meeting Principal Harry Langworthy will be unable to be at the opening session.
These official volleys will be followed by several markmanslrip volleys by such veteran shooters as John Cataldb, Harry Capron, Jesse and Paul Jordan. The public is invited to inspect the range facilities Thursday evening.

Boonville, Jan. 14—At a meeting of the Town Board Monday, the resignation of Perley S. Bab-cock as justice of the peace was submitted and accepted. N o new appointment in this office has been made.
Mrs. Wilbur Rednor and Mrs. Myrtle Lester were named attendance officers for the Town of Boonville. Edward A. Cavanagh was re-appointed as welfare of ficer.
The following constables were named: Fred Yager, John Mahaf-fy, Clarence Fulmer. Joseph Conway and William Lang.

Griswold Badly Injured When Pinned Under Car
Lowville, Jan. 14.—John Griswold, 38, proprietor of diners here and in Remsen, was injured Tuesday when his car skidded on the icy pavement near Glenfield and overturned in a field 50 feet off the road, pinning him beneath the car.
His left foot was fractured and his face c u t He also suffered from exposure in the sub-zero weather. I t was more than an hour after the accident happened before he was extricated and taken to Lewis County General Hospital. His condition is considered favorable.

Presbyterian Young People Select Officers at Meeting
Forestport. Jan. 14—The Young People's Society of the Presbyterian Church elected officers Sunday night for the second time this year. Elwyn Reed was .chosen president; Cecil Avery, vice-president; Ralph Hutton, secretary and treasurer.

Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Alice Gantner
Boonville, Jan. 14—The funeral of Mrs. Alice Gantner was held Tuesday with prayer service at the Trainor' funeral home on Schuyler St. and a t St. Joseph's Church at 10 a. m. The Rev. R. A. Hoffman of North Lawrence officiated. The Rev. Thomas F. McNeill was in the sanctuary.
The bearers were Thomas Dol-an, Dr. L. C. Brown, Walter Marcy, Harold Geiskopf, John Pfendler and Karl Kornmeyer.
Among the many floral tributes and mass cards were two floral pieces, one from the Charles St. neighbors and one from i h e Academy St. neighbors. Interment will be made in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the spring.

Friends here have received word of ths death of Irving E. Wager of Albany, whose tuneral was held at the Memorial Chapel Sunday afternoon. Mr. Wager married Miss Julia Earl, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Earl here, where her early life was spent. He is survived, besides his wife, by -one daughter, Mrs. Harold SherriU and son, Albert Earl Wager.

Jewell New Tax Rate Is Lower
Than in Previous Year Jewell, Jan. 14 — The total
amount of tax to be collected in the Town of Vienna for 1941 is $5,133.35 less than in 1940. The tax rate, which last year was $60.16 will be $53.98 this year.
Warrant for the collection at taxes has been turned over to Henry Koster, collector. Sylvan Beach, by Claude Harris.

Local Telephone Company Names Directors, Officers
Knoxboro, Jan. 14.—Knoxboro Telephone Company conducted its annual meeting in Grange Hall.
Three directors were elected for three years each to succeed himself, David Cragg, Peter Burns a n l George Burleson.
The election of officers follows: President, Peter Burns; vice-president, Clinton Smith; secretary and treasurer, Chester Dick in place of Mrs. M. A. Kimball. It was decided to take over Line 5 which has been a privately owned line.
Boonville, Jan. 14 — The two companies of the Boonville Fire Department met Monday night and elected officers for their respective groups. The Acme Hose Company also voted to purchase a $100 Defense Bond.
Officers of the Acme Hose are: President, Guy E. Enearl; vice-president, Ambrose Iseneker; secretary, Ernest A. Palmer; treasurer, liar land Hayes; trustee, J. H. Rice.
Leo Kotary was re-elected president of the Hook & Ladder Com. pany; vice-president, Robert Samuels.; secretary, Herman Reams; treasurer, Walter K. Miller.
Cady Bible Class Will Have Financial Contest
Boonville, Jan. 1 4 . — The Cady Bible Class of the Baptist Church held its monthly meeting Monday evening in the church parlors. Supper was served at 6:30 to 20 members by Mrs. E. A. Hill, Mrs. George Nestle and Mrs. Kathryn Traxel. The meeting opened with devotions led by Mrs. Garry Hall.
The class voted to divide its membership into two teams to raise funds for the class. The president, Jane Meurer named Mrs. Garry Hall as captain of the Main Streeters and Mrs. Louise Shafer as captain of the West Streeters. Both captains are to report at the February meeting.
Mrs. Dudley Lambert had the largest number out on the attendance contest for this month.
The program, in charge of Miss Josephine Pfeifle, consisted of guessing games with the prises being awarded to Mrs. Garry Hall and Mrs. Mas White* Mrs. T. P. Woolschlager was awarded the prize for her costume in the poverty social. t~<
Port Leyden Man Loses Hands After Being Frozen
Lowville, Jan. 14.—George Hos-kins, 76, Port Leyden, who was admitted Jan. 1 to Lewis County General Hospital with frozen hands and feet, had both hands amputated Tuesday.
Hoskins, who lives alone, was not seen between Dec. 29 and Jan. 1, when neighbors found him unconscious on the floor of his un-heated home.
Holland Patent, Jan. 14.—Mayor Harry C. Pugh called a meeting in Holland Hall Monday evening for the purpose of forming a defense organization. Mr. Wallace of Utica explained the work of the various committees and the duties of each.
The following were appointed chairman of committees: Transportation, W. Gehret Kleinspehn; fire, Ervin G. Kenyon; police, W. Charles Rowland; communications. Peter E. McCarthy; water, Sidney Lloyd and William T. Murphy; sanitation and health, Dr. Price Lewis; air warden, Otis S. Pritch-ard; women's volunteer service, Mrs. HSrry C. Pugh; food and shelter, Miss Adeline P. Baker; first aid, Miss Minnie Wolcott.
There will be a meeting of the chairmen of the committees at the hall next Monday evening to complete the listing of cdmmittees and arrange for a mass meeting in the near future.

The bearers were Daniel G. Humphrey sr., John Rowlands, Paul Van Dyke and Francis Daugh. Several beautiful floral tributes were sent by relatives and friends. Interment was made in Holland Patent Cemetery.
Miss Bullock Named Director of National Bank
Holland Patient, Jan. 14—Miss Margaret Bullock was named a director of First National Bank of Holland Patent at the annual meeting held Tuesday. She replaces the late Ellas W. Jones who died last month.

Five Young Men Enter Service in Army Ranks
Boonville, Jan. 14—Three young men from Boonville and one from Ava, left Tuesday morning for army service with other selectees fnam the Remsen draft board. They were Thomas Corwin, Donald O'Brien, Tilden Warren of Boonville and Charles Tuffy, Ava. They will be stationed at Fort Niagara, N. Y.
