Dear Parents and Care Givers
Students at Gosnells Primary School have been celebrating Science Week this week. Mrs Anthony has worked alongside classroom teachers to provide some fantastic learning experiences around the Science Week Theme, ‘Destination Moon: more missions, more science’. Children from Year 1 – 6 had the opportunity to visit Scitech’s Space Dome and the week concluded with a performance from our newly established junior choir, accompanying an exhibition of work created by students and teachers from across the school.
Our Interschool Cricket Team will travel to Sutherlands Park today to represent our school at the annual SRSA T20 Blast School Cup. A boys’ and girls’ team, supervised by Miss Paskos, Mr Price, Miss Williams and Mrs Edgelow, has been selected, with an opportunity to progress to regional and then state finals if successful at this carnival. We wish them all the very best of luck.
All parents and carers of children with a language background other than English are invited to our annual Multicultural Morning Tea on Thursday, 28 March. This event recognises and celebrates the cultural diversity of our school, with a major focus on how to support the speech and language development of children as well as finding out how to get involved around our school. We look forward to meeting the many families in our school who come from a culture other than our own.
Harmony Day will be celebrated at Gosnells Primary School on Friday, 29 March. This is an opportunity for our school to acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity of our community. Students, staff and parents are encouraged to dress in their traditional costume of their home country. Any students not able to dress in traditional costume are encouraged to wear Orange – the colour associated with Harmony Day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the fantastic staff who work with your children day in and day out for the manner in which they have ensured such a smooth start to 2019 for all our families. This year’s Parent Interviews will be held in the final week of Term One on Tuesday, 9 April, providing parents the opportunity to find out exactly how their child has settled into the new year and the progress they are making in English and Mathematics as well as Attitude, Behaviour and Effort. All parents will have a 10 minute session allocated with their child’s classroom teacher during which time teachers will focus their discussions on Literacy and Numeracy development, as well as general work habits. Additional “interviews” can be scheduled with teachers if parents require a more in-depth discussion. A form for parents to request times will go home with students later next week with confirmation of interview times being sent home on Friday, 5 April. Please make advanced plans for Tuesday, 9 April as school will close at 11:00am to cater for these sessions.
Chris Tallentire MLA, our local state MP, has once again donated a $250 bike voucher to be awarded to one lucky student who has paid their Voluntary Contributions in full by Friday, 28 June. Voluntary Contributions can be paid in cash at the front office or online using our new QKR App. This prize, along with a second $250 voucher for a lucky student who has maintained 90% attendance throughout first semester, will be presented at our school assembly on Friday, 5 July.
Every year the school produces an Annual Report to the community. The 2018 Annual Report is now available electronically through Schools Online or in hard copy by request from the Front Office.
Regards
Craig
