That sounds very grown-up: a marque with a history.

To every one of you who rode our components in this last half-century: we’d like to give you our thanks. It’s our fervent hope 3T made your cycling swifter and more beautiful.

You may be a newcomer to cycling, or you may have spent a long lifetime on the bike – riding 3T joins you to some of the great names of cycle racing. Names from the classic era such as Merckx, Saronni, Moser, Gimondi, and Fondriest. In the modern era, Sastre, Cancellara, Vande Velde, Wiggins, and Hushovd.

When 3T became the new 3T, we dedicated the renewed marque to the ultimate performance. We aimed to make bike components with the engineering of jet aircraft and F1 race-cars, married to the glamor and style of Italian design. They went on to win Grand Tours, Olympic races, Ironman races. And these are just the races we know about.

All over the world, amateurs – you, our customers – are winning races and adding your own achievement to the growing palmarès. You know that with 3T, you get the same equipment you see in races on TV. What we make for the pros, we make for you. That is where we’re coming from, and that’s where we’re going.

When we first came to 3T, we felt like we were just caretakers of its glorious heritage. We’re proud we’ve been able to extend and improve it, and bring it into the modern era. And now we’ve been here a while, we feel we have come to possess it by right. We are no longer newbies. The new 3T has become the real 3T.

That’s why now, in our anniversary year, we are changing our name, to 3T Cycling.

LTD is the full expression of ultimate performance by 3T.Expect no compromise – this is the best you can get. Top pros and super-demanding amateurs will likely prefer components at this level. Most LTD components are built in the lightest available grades of carbon composite materials. In the search for even lighter weight, structures may employ more highly-evolved fabrication methods such as variable-thickness walls. Ancillary parts are of the highest grade: for example, bolts are titanium rather than stainless steel.

TEAm is intended for top-level competition, and is widely used by professional and amateur racers. TEAM products equal LTD in function, but have minor concessions to price in materials specification and finish. TEAM components are built either in advanced carbon composite materials, or the highest grades of heat-treated aluminum alloy.This gives them great strength and robustness, so they are especially suitable for the rough-and-tumble of season-long competition. Bolts may be stainless steel or titanium. You’ll find the widest choice of fittings and sizes in the TEAM range.

pRO offers an ideal balance to riders who insist on top-class performance at the keenest price. This group typically includes many amateurs who purchase their own equipment. To contain fabrication costs, PRO components often employ traditional materials such as AL 7075 and AL 6061 alloys. But like all 3T products, they benefit by development on the 3T Intelligent Production Lifecycle, assuring right-first-time design and quality, at prices that meet the needs of today’s discriminating bike riders. Count on PRO components to perform to the highest levels.

CAE design visualizationFirst we create a component on-screen using CATIA . Used by aerospace and automotive engineers, it’s the industry gold standard for interactive design. We visualize a new component and can produce a solid mock-up for expert evaluation. We can change the design as often as we need, until we have a virtual prototype meeting our design goals of function, comfort, aerodynamics, and appearance.

Manufacturing optimizationNext, we ready the design for production. A composite component’s strength depends on its layup – how the plies of the material are set out. To determine the layup, we use a dedicated program, FiberSIM. This analyzes the strains in every ply and produces a layup plan with the optimum mix of strength, light weight, and low cost. This plan goes to our factory to guide the layup operators.

Finite-element analysisNow we pass the prototype’s digital design into FEA for stress testing. We model the forces acting on the component, examine how it performs under load, and change the design to perform better. For example, we found that by varying the wall thickness of a component we doubled its strength, but put the weight up by less than 5%. Optimizing the design now pays off later, with right-first-time manufactured prototypes.

TOp EnGinEERinG qUALiTy

Mechanical testNow we test the physical prototype. We put every 3T component through our own and independent tests. We bolt the part into a test rig and subject it to a lifetime’s grueling use in a few hours. The tests don’t just apply more force until the part fails. The test rig models real-world riding, with the continuous, repetitive stresses of normal riding peaking from time to time to simulate big efforts like a sprint or climb.

Pro rider testThe final test is riding the component. Whatever the numbers say, it has to feel right to the rider. That’s why 3T is a keen supporter of world-class cycle sport – because competition drives better component design. Our sponsored athletes expect the best of their equipment. Their judgment is unsparing, because they push the performance envelope to the limit. We rely on them to tell us how 3T components can be better still. VENTUS is the chrono bar of world champions. The carbon-fiber basebar, tiny brake levers and integrated stem make it the world’s fastest and most aerodynamic bar. The basebar is a thin, broad aerofoil set at the ideal angle of incidence to minimize drag. A full range of adjustment optimizes rider position: elbow pads move with the extensions, preserving a constant relationship between hands and elbows. VENTUS is our signature aerobar, fully expressing 3T’s Formula 1 inspired engineering for ultimate performance. Track version also available.

BREZZA II is an aerobar that mounts on conventional stems such as the 3T ARX range. The 2011 model has a new, lighter aerofoil basebar, symmetrical in section and with a pronounced forward sweep. Carbon-fiber cradles and S-bend extensions are standard. There’s a full range of adjustment for athletes of diverse physiques. Straight, deep-S, and ski-bend extensions are also available. BREZZA II meets UCI rules on aero form factor and many pros use it on their TT bikes.

ARXA is a height-adjustable stem derived from ARX. It’s both for chrono bikes, where the rider wants to get the bars down low, and utility bikes, for an upright riding position. ARXA’s front section is hinged to the rear section via a Di�Lock splined coupling. This provides a secure, non-slip �xing that, once adjusted, locks securely in place. Laser-etched markings help accurately set the desired angle within a total arc of 70°. At 199g, ARXA TEAM is way lighter than any previous articulated stem.

AURA PRO is an entry-level carbon-fiber aerobar, complete with extensions. AURA shares its basic architecture with MISTRAL, but its basebar has a simplified top skin and top-mounted extension clamps. AURA has S-bend standard extensions, but owners can customize their front end by swapping in any of 3T’s range of extensions. Simplicity, low weight, and efficient production keep the price low for such an advanced component.

MISTRAL PRO is the workhorse of 3T’s race-proven range of time-trial bars, offering great adaptability at moderate cost. It is a direct descendant of the BREZZA and is mostly built of carbon-fiber composites. MISTRAL has multiple cradle mountings in the top skin of the base bar, providing 16 positions from narrow-aero to wide-aero.
