Back in time• Chewing gum in various forms
has existed since at least 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic.The ancient Aztecs used chicle as a base.
• The Greeks chewed gum, made from the resin of the mastic tree and many other cultures have chewed gum-like substances made from plants, grasses, and resins.

In recent time• The American Indians chewed
resin made from the sap of spruce trees. Around 1850 a gum made from paraffin wax was developed.
• Modern chewing gum was first developed in the 1860s when chicle was imported from Mexico for use as a rubber substitute Synthetic gums were first introduced after chicle no longer satisfied the needs of making good chewing gum

• Tons of chewing gum consumed each year 100,000 T.
• Total time gum would be chewed every year if each piece of gum was chewed for 30 min,187 billion hours.
