Chairman’s Report

Happy Birthday, NYIB!

This year, the National Youth Involvement Board celebrates 40 years. As anyone who has ever been involved in this amazing network knows, the magic lies in cooperation. Never have I seen an organization with so many willing to share their stories, their successes, their failures, their triumphs, and their heroes. The 2011/2012 year was full of all of these and I was humbled to be a part of it.

In September 2011, your executive committee met in New Orleans to plan for the coming year and visit the site of the 2012 conference. Anne-Marie Bisson, Cynthia Campbell, Juli Lewis, Julie McLean, Janice Quigg and Adam VanCleave volunteered diligently that weekend and all year to ensure that NYIB continued to be your number one resource for all things youth financial literacy. Thank you so much to everyone on the executive committee. I was proud of this team and lucky to work with them throughout the last year.

This spring, the executive committee was invited to attend a National Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors meeting. Vice Chair Julie McLean and former chair Brandon Pugh were present to share the outstanding work of the network and discuss ways that the two organizations can better work together in the future. These coop-erative relationships are integral to the success of NYIB and her next 40 years.

As the 2012 conference began to draw near, NYIB was able to award five scholarships to the conference, two scholarships to Credit Union Development Educator training, and one scholarship to WOCCU’s Young Credit Union People Program. Excitement grew as registrations rolled in for attendees and vendors alike. NYIB thanks CU*Swag, Third Degree and Banzai, Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation, Biz Kid$, Subcat Marketing, CUNA Mutual Group, Louisiana Credit Union League, Money Mammals, Brass Media, the National Endowment for Financial Education, Savasaurus, Applause Learning, CU Succeed Teens Financial Network, and the Kirby Kangaroo Club. Without their continued support, the conference would not be possible.

Each year, we celebrate our heroes in the network. In 2012, Julie McLean of Arapa-hoe Credit Union, Colorado, was chosen as the NYIB Outstanding State Delegate and J.R. Webster of Tinker Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma was chosen as the Outstand-ing Volunteer. We honor these two individuals and appreciate their work within the network. I’d also like to personally thank our past chairmen and executive committee members. Your guidance, advice and experience are priceless!

Finally, after six years as part of the NYIB executive committee, including two years as chair, the time has come for me to say goodbye. This network has been such a huge part of my life, both professionally and personally, and I am thankful for the memories, experiences and friends that I have gained. Congratulations again NYIB, and cheers to 40 more birthdays.

And as always, I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!
