Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out)I think the way it was edited ads a sombre feeling to the video, as there are a few scenes of different angles of Thom Yorke’s face which fade into each other, which relate to Goodwin’s theory of having lots of close-ups of the lead singer’s face

Throughout the video different scenes are shown, but none are connected and in numerous scenes, there are subjects moving at different speeds – one slow motion and the other normal speed.

This scene reminds me of the photograph “Dali Atomicus” by Philippe Halsman which I think was related to, because in the photo, Halsman captures a moment and in the music video moments are slowed down so the viewer can see what they might not if the speed was normal.

The setting of the video is a trailer park during night time. Because it’s filmed at night time, soft lights were used to highlight the main subjects of the video. I think the soft lighting works better than harsh lighting would have, because the soft light adds more atmosphere to the video as well as flashes of lighting from a thunderstorm in the distance.

Bloc Party - TalonsUsing mainly flashes of light as the strongest light source creates a dramatic atmosphere.

The main setting of this music video is an underground car park and the corridors around it which have wires and industrial pipes on the wall.

The video is edited with quick shots between the singer, the location, lights and the story throughout the video. There are also more shots of the singer than anything else, to reinforce he’s the lead singer.

The video relates to Goodwin’s theory, because the music video is about the guilt after cheating, which I think this relates to an unidentified person shown and other people running from light (the person being the guilt that will never go away and light being the guilt that the people are trying to run away from).

Radiohead – Knives OutThe TV screen shows Thom and his ‘girlfriend’ happy at the beginning, but later on in the video they’re arguing and fighting – this relates to Michel Gondry’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend and how they stayed together for the wrong reasons.

Michael Gondry’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend is also shown by Thom’s ‘girlfriend’ as there’s an Intertextual link with the ‘Operation’ game – by the girl being in a life-size copy and when she’s in pain a red light shows on her face (in the game the nose lights up red) and Thom sleeping on the mattress next to her, as Gondry spent a lot of time with his ex-girlfriend in hospital.

This music video shows Goodwin’s theory, by being voyeuristic, because where the camera is, is as though you’re a friend in the same room looking at what’s going on with the girl and looking around the room.

This music video doesn’t relate to one point of Goodwin’s theory about there being a lot of close-ups of the lead singer, I think this is because Radiohead are already well-known and the main interest is what’s going on as Radiohead’s music is ambient, so there wouldn’t need to be a performance of the whole band.
