1.0 GeneralThese instructions provide the information necessary for the installation of 3M™ Quick Connect System Blocks 2810 in existing 3M™ Cross-Connect Cabinets 4200 JSP, 4200 KSP, 4200 LSP and 4200 MSP.

3M Cabinets 4200 JSP, 4200 KSP, 4200 LSP and 4200 MSP were designed for sealed plant applications and utilized the 3M™ Self-Strip Cross-Connect System. Cabinets came from the factory loaded to full pair capacity and with block tails compound sealed from the back of the frame up to the splice chamber and spliced with 3M™ 710 Modules.

3.0 Replacement Procedure3.1 Confirm existing block to be replaced and the 2810 block mounting plate fits the existing frame type.

3.2 Determine if jumpers are long enough to allow removing old block temporarily.

3.3 Remove cover and expose existing block tails in tray below frame.

3.4 Remove encapsulant in tray as required to allow placement of new block tails from frame to splice chamber.

3.5 Remove block tail entry cover in splice chamber to allow new tails to pass through side panel.

3.6 Remove existing block and swing aside leaving jumpers intact.

3.7 Place new 3M™ Quick Connect System Block 2810 in frame routing tail to splice chamber via the tray and label the block.

3.8 Half tap the 2810 block tail to the cable count of the existing block. Position 3M™ 710 Half Tap Module onto cable pairs to remain behind existing 710 module.

3.9 Trace existing jumper wire to verify opposite end binding post. Terminate new Cat. 5 jumper wire on the 2810 block, run to opposite end binding post, remove old jumper wire and terminate new Cat. 5 jumper wire in its place. Remove old jumper wire to old block.

4.0 Jumper Running 4.1 Open feeder pair jumper cap by pushing up on latch

and rotating up. Insert jumper wire ends A (tip) left and B (ring) right into wire openings in cap, making sure they are inserted all the way to the back of the cap.

4.2 Route jumper wires to distribution pair through wire loops on block ends and through vertical and horizontal wireways. Cut jumper wires to appropriate length, leaving at least 5 cm (2 in) of slack.

4.3 Terminate the jumper wires to the distribution pair by repeating the procedure described in step 4.1.

4.4 Terminate additional jumper wires by repeating the above procedure.

4.5 To remove jumper wires, open the cap and pull wires straight out from block.

Connector Covers on the new 710 modules. Note: old 710 modules will wreck with old block tails.

5.2 Remove old block and tails from frame to the splice chamber.

6.0 Testing Using Pair Test Probe:6.1 Plug the 3M™ Single Pair Test Probe 2827 into the

cap of the pair being tested, with the black lead to the left and the red lead to the right.

6.2 Place 2827 Test Probe at dish pan on cabinet door.
