Project Description
“The assignment invites you to undertake a research project that considers how the character of your chosen city is shaped by physical geography and climate”

Bergen
Information about Bergen, the unusual weather, general introduction to the place. Can maybe explain that the first information we encountered was mainly from tourist websites etc, which furthers the need for us to visit Bergen ourselves...etc
![Page 4: 380MC - Cities in a Physical World](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062521/568168f1550346895ddff813/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Preliminary Research
Can say how we chose to look at different aspects of Bergen/Norway, e.g. Architecture and buildings of Bergen (Brice and Justine), impact of the weather on the health of residents, particularly elderly/disabled residents (Russ and Sophie), behaviours and general way of life as a result of the weather (Steph and Rob), economical activities in Bergen (Yue and Wankun), Bergen and Norway presented within art/media. I guess it’s best to say we all did this together though rather than in groups of two because it looks more group-work-ish and also I’m sure some of the topics have overlapped.
Main point to research: to find out what the effects of the weather/climate are on Bergen – its architecture, its people and their hobbies and way of life, etc

Group Roles
Field Research: Stephanie, Rob, Brice and Justine Archive Organisers: Sophie, Russell, Yue and Wankun Archive Contributors: All group members Not sure if this is a pointless slide, we could just read this out really?

Field Research
Group 1 (January 2012) – Stephanie and Rob Group 2 (February/March 2012) – Brice and Justine
Information about our aims and objectives, what we hoped to find out from the field research, what our question/hypothesis was, why we chose to have two research groups instead of one, etc.

Trip 1
Steph and Rob - sum up the trip? Can talk about methodologies used and say how we gave you directions and that sort out thing so you didn’t end up somewhere predictable/tourist-y.

Trip 2
Brice and Justine – sum up the trip, say what you did and why (methodologies)

Findings and Discussion
What we went expecting to find What we did find What surprised us Whether our hypothesis was proved right/wrong/neither (do we
need a hypothesis? No idea) What we can interpret from our findings, analysis of findings

Findings and Discussion
HOBBIES: “Locals are so enthusiastic about their town, they even have positive things to say about its particularly wet climate. With an average of 2,250 millimetres of rain which falls 235 days a year, the weather in Bergen would plunge most people into a prolonged depression, but Marius Bembo believes that it has helped to foster a vibrant musical environment: ‘I am convinced that the rain has a lot to do with musical creativity in this town. It just pours down from September to March! So if you want to stay dry, you have to stay in and create something’”
