In MemoriumThis year’s Festival

is dedicated to the

memory of Joyous Bowen. Joyous was

involved in the arts

in Shawano for lon-

ger than most of us

can remember. She

worked for 37 years to bring the

Shawano Folk Music Festival to life

(one of only two volunteers who

could claim that record). She sang,

danced and rode her motorcycle

cross country whenever she could.

In her 90’s she bought a mountain

dulcimer and learned to play it. We

lost Joyous last September, and we

will miss her.

We also say goodbye to JamesDurst, singer, songwriter, social ac-tivist who sang at the First Year of the Shawano Folk Music Festival in 1979.

We’ve all lost other friends and family.

This weekend, sing for all of them.

Mark DvorakMark Dvorak is a modern day troubadour who’s been

called “a folk singer’s folk singer.” When not on the road,

he teaches at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music.

Joe JencksJoe Jencks is a singer, songwriter, storyteller and educator. He’s a solo performer and a member of

Brother Sun. Coming from the Chicago area, Joe is known for his unique mix of musical beauty, social

consciousness and spiritual exploration. Pete Seeger said, “Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on

the traditions.” Ron Olesko of WFDU-FM in Teaneck NJ says, “His voice will instantly draw you into

his passionate songs. He is the type of musician whose music will become part of you.” We agree.

Paul SrubasPaul Srubas has been playing early folk ballads and tunes since he was in grammar school. He per-

forms old English and Scottish ballads, English lute songs, Irish laments, dance tunes and old-time


Yata PeinovichJoy is what listeners often see and feel as Yata sings the songs he’s written - and he’s written quite a few. His compositions

50% Folk50% Folk started playing traditional music nearly 50 years ago during the ‘60’s folk revival. They found each other again at a high school re-union and 50% Folk was born. Tanya Przybylski, Mark Bradish, Dean Sau-ers, & Wayne Rippl play classic folk, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel.

agement to its writing members. Members include novices

and professionals, people who write in a variety of genres,

Nancy RafalNancy Rafal wears two hats. She is a poet

from Door County with a keen apprecia-

tion of music and a member of the Wis-

consin Fellowship of Poets. She is also a

caner, demonstrating the old art of chair

caning and rushing. She belongs to The

Seatweavers’ Guild, Inc. and hones her

craft by teaching and studenting.

Miss TeaMisty Sherman (Miss Tea) is back with her freshly

brewed iced teas. Plain iced tea and special iced teas

like Strawberry Basil, Raspberry Twist, Iced Chai, Half

Lemonade/Half Iced Tea and others to keep you re-

freshed. She’ll also serve other fresh treats.

The Songbird CafeIt was a big hit last year, so for the second year, Wayne

Czypinski and other festival volunteers serve up some

simple, refreshing and tasty snacks — healthy, too!

There is a parking lot on Airport Road and Cty. H.

Parking lot space is limited - please don’t use more than one space! Street parking is available on Cty.

Rd. H, on the north end of Mielke Park. Watch for “No

Parking” signs on Airport Rd.

Handicapped ParkingHandicap parking is available inside the park. Ask at

the gate if you need assistance.

Crafters, vendors, staff and performers:You’ll be directed to parking inside the park. The Air-

port Rd lot is reserved for Festival attendees.
