Dear Friends,

Welcome to the chambers of Music. Each one of us keeps in their heart the painful and dramatic me-mory of the things we have experienced. This story is still being written but is nonetheless capable of giving us more pages of hope and beauty. With this attitude, we are opening the 2021 edition of MusicaRiva Festival which, far from being a simple event, is a theory of talents and stars. The festival wants to contribute to our re-start. During these long, dark months, we have suffered from the lack of both moments of sharing and cul-tural growth. How painful to see movie theatres, theatres, and concert halls so quiet and empty. Together with the audience, a multitude of profes-sionals and skilled workers have been suffering too; with their work, they make it possible for pro-ductions to exist, for artists to perform and, finally, for the audience to get excited.The music of this festival is a range of emotions, a wide-open window on the several directions arts can lead us in. The infinity that exists between the notes, as Mozart said.

As in previous years, many opera singers from 26 countries around the world came to Riva del Garda to show their talent and try to achieve victory.

During the award ceremony they will perform the most famous arias of the operatic repertoire.

This venue is not surrounded by walls, but it opens at dawn or dusk. With the sun as the Light-Designer and the Garda as the Set-Designer,

this experience is unforgettable: for those who play, for those who

sing, and for those who listen, even on board the canoes.

Since 1978, playing in an enthusiastic ensemble made up of percussion instruments only has been an enjoyable and well-established tradition for the instrumentalists of Teatro alla Scala. A real orchestra within the orchestra.

Gilberto Gil, Uri Caine, Aldo Ciccolini, Natalia Gutman, Isaac Karabtchevsky, and many others: we are honoured to be able to start again, hosting another great artist of worldwide music.

Oscar-winner Nicola Piovani, through a story made of music, words, images from films and shows, retraces some of the stages of his unparalleled career.

Pietro Roffi has recorded, among others, the soundtrack for the movie Pinocchio by Matteo Garrone. With his Accordion - together with Gianni Sciambarruto’s guitar - he pays tribute to his idols, some of the composers who made film music great.

Today Riva del Garda is one of the most important European centres for the study of Italian “Belcanto” thanks to Mietta Sighele and Veriano Luchetti who, with their prestigious classes, have attracted young talents from all over the world starting from the ’90s.

Quite a few singers who performed on this stage are now among the leading figures of international Opera.

Rising stars come through here.
