AMPL is a computer program that can quickly calculate optimal solutions for a variety of problems, including linear programs. This manual will demonstrate how to download the free demo version of AMPL, which will suffice for the purposes of this class, on a Windows or Macintosh computer.

Windows Instructions:

Step 1: Determine if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

1. Open Libraries Folder from Desktop

2. Open Computer Section

3. Open System Properties

4. Refer to System Type (should say 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System):

Step 2: Download files from AMPL Website (http://ampl.com/try-ampl/download-a-free-demo/)

1. If you have a 32-bit system download: amplide.mswin32.zip  or if you have a 64-bit system download: amplide.mswin64.zip

2. Unzip the folder and place it in a preferred location

Step 3: Download the AMPL IDE file (http://ampl.com/products/ide/ )

1. If you have a 32-bit system download: amplide.win32.zip or if you have a 64-bit system download: amplide.win64.zip

Step 4: Extract files from the AMPL IDE Folder. For the extracted folder, double click inside the folder until you see the folder amplide. Copy and Paste this into the AMPL Folder from earlier.

Make sure the amplide folder is in the ampl

folder

Step 5: Open AMPL. Double-click on the amplide icon with the black jaguar. If a security warning opens, click “Run”.

Step 2: Double click on the folder amplide.macosx64

Step 3: Double click the Amplide icon:
