LS 4Circuit Breaker Control
& Protection
APPLICATIONS
The LS 4 offers a simple solution for complexswitchgear applications. The LS 4 has theability to operate with up to 14 GCP-31 gensetcontrols and 8 LS 4 circuit breaker controllers.
Each controlled breaker is equipped with oneLS 4 that measures the three-phase voltage oneither side of the breaker (phase angleconfigurable). Each side of the breaker isdesignated as either a fixed (utility) or variable(genset) source and is labeled A or B. Thispermits the LS 4 to control utility feederbreakers with one fixed source and onevariable source, or tie breakers betweenbusses with two variable sources. The LS 4 isused for breaker protection, synchronization, and load control.
OPERATION
All LS 4's communicate via a CAN bus networkto each other and to the GCP genset controls.Discrete input commands are used to operatethe LS 4 in the desired mode. Set-point valuesfor frequency and voltage are transmitted to allgenset controllers on that switchgear segment. The genset controls then adjust the frequencyand voltage of their respective genset toachieve synchronization. The LS 4 will performthe opening and closing of the circuit breakerbased on the discrete inputs it receives.
