Dear Friends,

We are so pleased that you are joining us as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of People’s Light and Theatre. Since its inception, the Theatre has sought to entertain, inspire and engage our community. People’s Light has been unique in how it has integrated the arts and education in ever widening circles of engagement. This evening will benefit Project Discovery, the largest arts education program in Pennsylvania, and one of the most comprehensive in the country. This program reaches over 30,000 students each year and strives, through an appreciation of live theatre, to encourage self-expression and creative interaction between students, teachers and family mem-bers. We are happy to welcome you to our circle.

This evening would not be possible without the incredible energy and generosity of our Gala committee and friends of the Theatre who have contributed to this celebration. So please bid high and bid often on the wonderful items that these people have made available for our live auction. We think that you will agree, as you preview these items, that we are offering unique opportunities! This evening will allow you the satisfaction of contributing to our fundraising goal while planning some really novel activities.

Thank you all for celebrating with us, and know that by participat-ing, you are helping to set the stage for a bright future at People’s Light and Theatre.

Sincerely,

Fred & Barb Sutherland Bill & Katie McNabb 35th Anniversary Co-Chairs 35th Anniversary Co-Chairs

Dear 35th Anniversary Gala Attendees:

It is a pleasure and an honor to celebrate with you this evening.

People’s Light is a web of artists, volunteers, audience members, friends and fami-lies that for 35 years has been dedicated to making plays that entertain, enlighten and invigorate all of us. And we continue to extend this excitement and learning further to young people and adults through a range of Arts Discovery programs that work through school residencies, classes and Summerstage at People’s Light, inten-sive community partnerships and specially designed presentations for high school students that line up with and complement school curricula.

In 1974 we could never have imagined: designers sending us their designs elec-tronically, school teachers e-mailing their responses to our programs, students “texting for tickets,” audience members filling out on-line surveys and ordering tickets on the world wide web. But in 2010 more things than not are the same: art-ists and audience members together in a darkened theatre sharing the words, sounds and sights of a play; artist/teachers in a classroom guiding students in making discoveries about a script, characters and universal human themes.

Thank you all so much for making this complex and rich interchange possible on a daily basis here at People’s Light.

And a special thanks to the 35th Anniversary Gala Committee, led with extraordi-nary skill and grace by Katie and Bill McNabb and Barbara and Fred Sutherland.

We look forward to the next 35 years and to the new developments, challenges and discoveries that People’s Light’s community members will encounter together.

With warmest wishes and gratitude,

Abigail Adams Grace E. GrilletArtistic Director Managing Director

17. 1996 First Growth Wines One of the Best Vintages of the 1990s

This is a lot of 5 bottles (one bottle from each château) from the excellent 1996 vintage:

Château Haut-Brion“It will be a potentially long-lived wine. The 1996 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, and a surprisingly tight bouquet. With aeration, notes of fresh tobacco, dried herbs, smoke, asphalt, and black fruits emerge ... but reluctantly. It is tannic and medium-bodied, with outstanding purity and a layered, multidimensional style.” Robert Parker 92 points

Château Lafitte Rothschild“That 1996 Lafite-Rothschild is unquestionably this renowned es-tate’s greatest wine. This massive wine may be the biggest, largest-scaled Lafite I have ever tasted. The wine exhibits a thick-looking, ruby/purple color, and a knock-out nose of lead pencil, minerals, flowers, and black currant scents. Extremely powerful and full-bodied, with remarkable complexity, this huge Lafite is oozing with extract and richness, yet has managed to preserve its quintessentially elegant personality. This wine is even richer than it was prior to bot-tling. It should unquestionably last for 40-50 years.” Robert Parker 100 points

Château Latour“A spectacular Latour, the 1996 may be the modern day clone of the 1966, only riper. This vintage, which is so variable in Pomerol, St.-Emilion, and Graves, was fabulous for the late-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon of the northern Medoc because of splendid weather in late September and early October. An opaque purple color is fol-lowed by phenomenally sweet, pure aromas of cassis infused with subtle minerals. This massive offering possesses unreal levels of ex-tract, full body, intensely ripe, but abundant tannin, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Classic and dense, it displays the potential for 50-75 years of longevity.” Robert Parker 99 points

Item 17 Continued

Château Margaux“The 1996 Chateau Margaux, which was bottled in September, 1998, is undoubtedly one of the great classics produced under the Mentzelopou-los regime. In many respects, it is the quintessential Chateau Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. The fruit is excep-tionally sweet and pure, and there are layers of flavor in the mouth. I do believe this wine will develop an extraordinary perfume, and possess a high level of richness.” Robert Parker 99 points.

Château Mouton Rothschild“This estate’s staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. This wine is showing surprising forwardness and complex-ity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal.” Robert Parker 94 points
