Welcome to the latestIPC Electronicsbrochure.
The business has been designing and manufacturing
specialised electronic instruments for schools and colleges
since 1981. We have become the leading supplier in our field
and have built a reputation for high quality instruments
that are robust, durable and totally reliable. They have been
designed to provide practical assistance with a large
range of experiments suitable for GCSE and
A level Physics or the equivalent.
The instruments are built in a variety of hard wearing outer casings;
either metal with a durable powder-coating, a strong ABS plastic
or an injection moulded plastic case, depending on the product.
They are built with consideration of the environment within which
they are expected to work. All products are manufactured in the UK
and are individually subjected to a rigorous test. Prior to leaving the
site works, the instruments are packed in a strong cardboard carton
complete with mains cable (where appropriate) and instructions,
so you can be assured of a working product when it reaches you.
We work closely with a number of the leading UK distribution
companies providing a full range of science based equipment
for the education market, ensuring our products reach as
wide a customer base as possible.

Joule and Watt Meter IPC-1952-PCapable of making direct measurement of electrical energy or power supplied to a load and
is therefore a valuable tool for pupil based work as well as simplifying many demonstrations.
The direct readings mean that the need for voltmeter, ammeter, stop watches and calculators
is eliminated and fast and accurate results can be obtained. The science understanding can
therefore be gained from scientific investigations rather than mathematical manipulation,
making it ideal for pupil based investigations at GCSE, Standard Grade level and A-level in
science and technology courses.
Its many uses include experiments with an electrical heater, determination of energy stored
in a capacitor, calculating the power supplied by a d.c. source to a resistive load and
measurement of the specific latent heat of steam.
The meter is capable of measuring energies from 1mJ to 9999J or power from 1mW to 200W
in a.c. or d.c. circuits. Two ranges selected by a switch labelled mJ/mW and J/W are available.
The auto-ranging four digit display will give direct readings of energy or power. The maximum
current input is 10A. All electrical connections are via 4mm sockets.

Timers and Counters
Photo Timing Gate IPC-3210-TFor use as a light operated timing gate. Comprises photodetector and light source each housed in a robust ABS case
spaced 40mm apart on a plastic rod. Light source housing has battery compartment and on/off switch. Photodetector
housing is fitted with a pair of 4mm sockets to allow connection to electronic timers. When the timing gate is switched
on it creates a short circuit between the two output sockets, this then becomes an open circuit each time the light beam
is interrupted. Consequently the timing gate can be used as a remote switching device in a wide range of dynamics
experiments.
Electrical Supply 9V Battery PP3 typeDimensions Each case: 55x110x25mm Rod: 120x12 (dia)Mass 0.25kg
Timer Scaler and frequency Meter IPC-3342-TA multi-purpose instrument which is invaluable in the physics laboratory, combining the functions of a multi-purpose timer, a
ratemeter and a frequency meter in one compact and economical unit. Its uses are many and varied covering a wide area of
the physics syllabus.
Uses in the timer mode range from a simple stopwatch to more sophisticated applications such as dynamics experiments with
air tracks etc. The scaler and ratemeter modes allow numerous radioactivity experiments to be undertaken, for example,
variations in background radiation, half-life determination and investigation of absorption coefficients. When used as a frequency
meter the instrument will accept diversified waveforms and may be used, for example, to determine the rotational frequency of
a stroboscope disc and for displaying the frequency of a waveform from a signal generator. It has four, 7-segment LED digits,
13mm high. The high brightness and large size display make it ideal for classroom demonstrations.
The microprocessor based design minimises the number of controls required and these are clearly labelled so that the
instrument is very straightforward to use. A single biased-off double throw switch enables RESET or HOLD to be momentarily
selected. The HOLD position halts the display whilst the internal timing or counting continues. The instrument, when used as a
timer can be switched mechanically or electrically by connecting to one or both pairs of 4mm sockets, labelled 'A' and 'B'. The
'A' sockets operate on a rising edge and the 'B' sockets operate on a falling edge enabling start/stop operations to be per-
formed from a variety of switch combinations.
Besides use as a standard electronic timer, the instrument can be pulse operated to enable moving bodies to be timed using phototiming gates. When used as a scaler or
ratemeter the input signal can be via either a GM tube or a solid-state detector. The GM tube is connected via a PET coaxial socket and with the switch set to 'GM' the
EHT supply is continuously variable over the range 300 to 500V. With the switch set to 'SS' the pre-amplifier is switched in. The solid-state detector is connected using a
BNC coaxial socket. When used as a ratemeter an audio output can be obtained. For frequency measurements the input is via the pair of sockets labelled 'A'. An illuminated
on/off switch is mounted on the rear panel adjacent to a fused appliance inlet. The unit is built into a robust metal case with a durable powder coated finish.

Optical Equipment
Semiconductor Laser IPC-2588-L and IPC-2600-L
IPC-2588-L : Supplied WITHOUT stand and mounting rod.
IPC-2600-L : Supplied WITH stand and mounting rod.
This laser emits an intense monochromatic red beam of wavelength 630 - 640nm at 0.9mW (Class II operation). Typical
beam divergence is approximately 1 millirad. The laser is ideal for the demonstration of the behaviour of light in a
visually effective way, reinforcing the practical work carried out by pupils using white light. It is an essential tool to
develop basic understanding of the passage of light through different media, slits etc. The laser beam can be modulated
by applying an external digital or analogue waveform to the 3.5mm jack socket on the rear panel. Alternatively the beam
can be modulated by the internal generator which produces 0.1µ s pulses at approximately 1MHz. This allows speed of
light experiments to be easily performed. The passage of light through light guides and optical fibres can be demonstrated
by filling a glass or plastic tube or U-tube with very dilute milk.
The growth of laser based communication systems and research into the use of lasers in computers of the future make
this an essential piece of equipment to bring up-to-date relevance into teaching.
The laser is powered by a 6LR61 (PP3) battery or external smoothed and regulated supply, has adjustable focus, no
warm up time and has a key operated safety switch. Housed in a robust anodised aluminium case. Supplied with key.

be driven directly from a crystal microphone, signal generator, radio headphone output etc.
Housed in a robust ABS plastic case. Supplied with instructions.

Thermopile IPC-4652-WA miniature multijunction thermopile mounted on a 90mm rod with a 500mm cable terminated with red and black 4mm
plugs. By using a sensitive galvanometer or digital voltmeter capable of reading to 0.1mV, the differing radiant energies
from the surface of a Leslie cube can be demonstrated. Supplied with instructions.
Dimensions 90mm with 500mm lead
Mass 0.015kg
IR Probe IPC-4566-WA phototransistor with maximum response in the infrared region of the spectrum at around 940nm. This is near to the
visible region of the spectrum. The phototransistor is mounted on the end of a fibreglass wand, fitted with a 250mm lead
and two 4mm connectors. When connected to a suitable voltmeter (e.g. IPC-1904-M 2V d.c. voltmeter) the probe will
produce a qualitative reading proportional to the amount of infrared radiation incident on it's sensitive face. Supplied
with instructions.
