These positions are entry points into the technology industry and the Manpower system.

Our client develops and applies solar technologies to combat climate change so as to create a sustainable environment using solar thermal power and photovoltaic technologies developed by the company.

Our client will construct, own and operate the Solana Generating Station. The Solana Generating Station will cover 3 square miles and contain 2,700 parabolic trough collectors.

Located on what is currently agricultural land, the power plant will use 75 percent less water than the current use of the property. Location is 70 miles southwest of Phoenix near Gila Bend, AZ. Once operating at full capacity it can serve 70,000 Arizona homes.

POSITION OVERVIEW: All the activities going on in the Mirror Factory Assembly Production Line use non-skilled workers.

Training is minimal and limited to training workers for specific production line tasks.

Activities are repetitive and consist in installing screws, bolts and rivets.

Except for moving the assembled mirrors from the factory building to the location to be installed all the work is performed in an enclosed and ventilated pre-fabricated steel factory building.

Maintenance of the equipment will be performed by the suppliers of the equipment.

Many workers share activities in more than one station AND are rotated periodically in order to allow production on different parts of the mirror structure assembly.

About Solana Generating StationThe Solana Generating Station is a 250-megawatt (MW) concentrating solar power (CSP) plant to be built 70 miles southwest of Phoenix, near Gila Bend, Arizona.

The plant will be located on the northwest corner of Interstate 8 (I-8) and Painted Rock Dam road.

It will produce enough energy to serve 70,000 APS customers when operating at full capacity.

The plant will be built by Abengoa Solar Inc., and is scheduled to provide renewable energy beginning in 2013.

Spanish for “sunny place,” Solana will not emit greenhouse gases and will provide APS with more solar electricity per customer than any utility in the U.S.

The facility also would be the largest solar power plant in the world if in operation today.

Solana's TechnologyThere are several ways to create electricity using the sun’s energy.

Two common methods are concentrating solar power and photovoltaic. Both applications have their appropriate place for helping meet the future energy needs of Arizona.

Solana will use concentrating solar power (CSP) technology with storage capability. Unlike a photovoltaic solar plant, which uses sunlight to produce electricity, CSP uses the sun’s heat.

Solana’s parabolic mirrors focus the sun’s heat on a heat transfer fluid. The fluid can reach a temperature of 735 degrees Fahrenheit.

To produce electricity, the hot fluid transfers its heat energy to water, creating steam. The steam is then used to run conventional steam turbines. The heat energy in the fluid also can be stored and used at a later time to generate electricity.

The PlantLarge thermos-like buildings containing molten salt will be located next to the steam boilers. At select times, instead of immediately creating steam, the heat transfer fluid will heat the molten salt.

Then, if electricity is needed when the sun is not shining, the fluid can be heated by running it

through the hot salt instead of through the mirrors.

Using this process, electricity can be made from heat energy that was created up to six hours earlier

1) Parabolic mirrors heat the heat transfer fluid.

2) Hot fluid returns from the solar field.

3) The hot fluid transfers its heat energy to water, creating steam.

4) Steam is used to drive a turbine, creating electricity.

5) The hot fluid also heats molten salt.

6) If the sun is not shining, the fluid can be heated by the molten salt.

7) The fluid is sent back to the solar field.
