JEFF  GOLDBLUM   To celebrate the release of 20th Century Fox’s much anticipated blockbuster, Independence Day: Resurgence, Amanda catches up with stage and screen legend Jeff Goldblum at Sydney’s Observatory. Jeff lets Amanda in on some the secrets he learned to protect against alien invasion from playing his renowned computer expert character, Dr. David Levinson.

 

 

ABOUT  JEFF  GOLDBLUM  • Jeff Goldblum was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1952 • Goldblum loved acting from an early age and moved to New York at 17 to study drama at

Carnegie Mellon University during the summer sessions • He worked extensively through the New York theatre scene and managed to gain small

parts in various movies through the late 1970s including Death Wish, Nashville and Annie Hall

• In the early 1980s he starred in a few productions as lead such as TV movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow before starring in cult classic ensemble film, The Big Chill in 1983

• Goldblum really shot to fame with his lead role in David Cronenberg’s remake of horror classic The Fly in 1985

• It was one of three films in the 1980s where Goldblum starred opposite Geena Davis – the two eventually married in 1987 before separating in 1990

• The 1990s were busy for Goldblum who starred in two of the decades biggest and most successful blockbusters – Independence Day and Jurassic Park

• He reprised his Jurassic Park role in the commercially successful The Lost World • Together the Jurassic Park films and Independence Day grossed more than $2.4 billion in

worldwide box office receipts • Instead of continuing down the blockbuster film path, Goldblum starred in more

independent films and even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Short Film (Live Action) for Little Surprises

• He has starred in successful director Wes Anderson’s films including The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Grand Budapest Hotel

• One of his more notable independent film roles was as D.H. Baines in Igby Goes Down opposite Keiran Culkin

• The 2000s also saw Goldblum return to television in such shows as Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Will & Grace, garnering an Emmy nomination for the latter

• He also teaches acting at Playhouse West in Los Angeles - a school he co-established in the early 1980s

• Goldblum is also a noted jazz pianist having performed both solo and with the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra in Los Angeles
