a) Project of Digital Archives

Fletch showed the group a mini trailer of their current project “The Brighton I Remember” , which is a short video of local people of interest talking about their memories of Brighton. The video featured Florence Chatten. The videos are intended to display the social fabric and history of Brighton. The group will welcome anyone who has an historical story that they would like to bring on board. The videos will be shown at the next History Open House in February 2019. Members of the Committee will provide Fletch with suggested persons of interest for the project.

d) Quaker House

Joe has met with Dale Nelson (son of Dan Nelson) and Rick, who represent the ‘Society of Friends’ (Quakers). He indicated that Dan will prepare wording (300 words) for a plaque to be erected on the grounds. As well, Nanci requested that a letter be prepared for the listing of the property and she would deliver it.

d) Hilton Hall

Fletch has been informed by Stephen that there will be a discussion brought forward to council to discuss the use of Hilton Hall. He also mentioned that he attended the last council meeting and indicated that council approved the project. At the last council meeting, it was decided that Hilton Hall will only be used for events, not for meetings. The Song Circle will continue to use this space on a monthly basis. Councillor Laura Vink has mentioned the use of the hall and the concern from previous council meetings is for insurance purposes etc.

a) Brighton Digital Archives

Fletch advised the Committee that the Brighton Digital Archives had cancelled their booth for Applefest on Saturday, September 29, 2018. None of the members are available to man the booth. The money paid for the booth has been refunded. He told the Committee that two new members had been added to the group so the workload could be better distributed among them. He also advised that the Digital group is looking towards having an event, possibly in November, at the Community Centre. Fletch advised that the Brighton Digital Archives had received a donation of $300.00 from the Rotary Club and wanted guidance on how to handle this. The Brighton Digital Archives has received a donation from Brighton Rotary in the amount of $300.00. At the request of the Brighton Digital Archives Committee, the Heritage Advisory Committee recommends to Council that these funds be transferred to the Heritage Advisory Committee funds for the future use of the Digital Archives group. Moved by: Joe Banbury Seconded by: Parise Herbert Carried

b) Letters to owners for listing

b) Plaques

A discussion about locating the master for preparing the draft plaque for the Canadian Canners plaques took place. Laura advised that she had the document and would prepare the drat. Joe will provide her with the wording. Laura also undertook to get the information as to the company that had manufactured the plaques in the past. Fletch will prepare the photo to be used on the plaques from a picture provided by Mary.

c) Listing of Plaques Joe advised that David Bree was interested in locating the plaques erected in the Municipality so the list could be prepared. Nanci suggested that, once the list is completed, a pamphlet for a driving tour should be prepared for distribution to tourists, etc. It was also noted that the information should be posted on the Municipality’s website. Joe advised that Dan Buchanan was also interested in this project and is willing to help get it done.

d) Corrected Pamphlets

Fletch advised that he had delivered the corrected master pamphlet to Willow Printing. He later indicated the new pamphlet had been delivered to the Municipality. e) Hilton Hall In view of the fact that some members of the Committee had some concerns about the proposal to use the Hall as an incubator as proposed in the presentation Fletch made to Council, Parise suggested that we should return to the discussion of the use of the Hall. She read some comments that she felt were important to review (copy attached to Minutes). After some discussion by the members, it was decided we should invite Jim Millar to our next meeting since he is the person responsible for maintenance and rental of the Hall. Joe later suggested that Dan Buchanan and the Grahams should be invited. Laura undertook to invite Jim Millar and Parise will invite Dan, Ian and Sharon.
