Intervention

ThisThis project saw us take on a much more complex brief for a youth theatre, sited in Roseangle, an area of Dundee we had already studied in detail. I chose to retain one brick wall from the existing derelict garage building and to use some of the material recovered from the main demolitiondemolition to build a new brick wall as the entrance facade, with a modern in-sertion drawing attention to the new use of this site. The main concept was to retain the green feeling of Roseangle within the city and to create an internal garden which would become the heart of the public building. This became a triple height space with a glazed roof, creating a light ‘canopy’ over the cafe and garden area. This was also the first oppurtunity we had to really begin to understand the detailing of a much bigger scheme. This was something which I really enjoyed andand am keen to keep developing a great-er understanding and knowledge of.
