Welcome Center ~ Next Step

After the temptations, ”Then the devil left Him and, behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”

Christmas, come and gone… There were nice gatherings at the Christmas Masses…but how about Ash Wednesday!? Three Masses on a day that is not a Holy Day of Obligation (8am, noon, 7pm. Ashes! We saw ashes on the foreheads of newscasters and even a few presidential candidates! WHY??

It is a time to connect to Jesus in a very special way, different from Christ-mas. Now Jesus is over 30 years old, and we remember him being one with us in every way but victoriously resistant to sin. We remember the willing-

ness of our Lord and Brother to experience the human condition on our terms so to teach us how to rise up against evil in all its form and overcome it.

Jesus is tempted…and so are we. We in our turn follow Him also in and out of the temptation fields of our lives (Much has been spoken and written about how we too are tempted with offerings of power, domination and possessions, as was Jesus). We forget so easily. If we don’t tell the stories of our pasts we will forget who we are. Moses did this with God’s chosen people, and we as the Church, the chosen People of God, do the same especially during lent. What would happen to our families if we didn’t celebrate our own cultic and family histories? Why we’d soon forget just how wonderful and blest we are.

Jesus shared his storied temptations with his disciples…it’s in all three Synoptics. Jesus was alone! Going into the desert is courtship time, for us too…time to block out time for God. Lent: we have to be driven into the desert again and again until we understand profoundly and embrace wholeheartedly the way of the cross…We celebrate this with Stations of the Cross on Fridays (7pm) at Holy Hour. Lent is a time to cooperate with grace, submitting to personal purification and testing. It’s an occasion of evangelization too. It is a time to process evangelization that starts in our own hearts. It is a time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It’s a time for charitable works too, the outpouring of grace. We call to mind three themes that we reflect upon and act upon during our personal desert sojourn: The Beatitudes, The Preferential Option for the Poor, The Ran-dom Acts of Kindness.

The eight beatitudes are found in Matthew 5: 1-12. It’s a great read summarizing the essence of Jesus’ message. The preferential option for the poor encourages us to outreach to the face of Jesus Christ in the many who suffer poverty of spirit, of hunger and want, of loneli-ness. The random acts of kindness call us to do something beautiful

and unexpected, and to do it anonymously

I am happy to announce another major step leading to construction of our Welcome Center. We have a Project Manager and will select a General Contractor by late March. We will be directing the contractor to hire parishioners as sub contractors to complete the work, those who have skill sets and documentation as roofers, carpenters, pavers, brick layers, landsca-pers, plumbers, electricians and the like. We are gathering your necessary paperwork at the office leaving it for Fr. Julio or Fr. Charles in the next two weeks. Please include a resume about your business, liability insurance and a business card. Fr. Charles Zach

Feasting and Fasting

Lord Jesus, as we begin this holy season of Lent help us to

-Fast from our busyness and feast on the beauty of nature.

-Fast from criticism and feast on positive communication.

-Fast from speaking and feast on listening.

-Fast from selfishness and feast on generosity.

-Fast from gossip and feast on spreading the Good News.

-Fast from apathy and feast on enthusiasm.

-Fast from complaining and feast on giving compliments.

-Fast from wasting time and feast on spending more time in prayer.

But most of all, O Lord, help us to fast from all that keeps us from recognizing you in each other, and help us to feast each day on Your unfailing love. (Shared by Ron Welsh)

Please join us for a Bible study on the letter of James. In the video pres-entations, James: Pearls for Wise Living study, presenter Jeff Cavins shows how the teachings of James speak to those of us who feel torn be-tween the competing demands of this world and our Faith. Meant to help a fledgling Church live out its Faith in the face of persecution and a world-view opposed to the gospel, in the 11-part James program, you’ll discover wisdom you can apply to the present.

Sessions are Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm in classroom 6 and Thursday mornings at 9:00 am also in classroom 6.

Rice Bowl ~ First Week of Lent

When Jesus feed the 5000, he said, “ Give them some food your-selves.” Reflect on the challenge of global hunger. How can you contribute to support the hungry in your community? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

Make a commitment to reading the Sunday readings before you go to Mass. In the same way read-ing up on football players, opposing teams and coaching strategies will help you experience a game more fully, familiarizing yourself with the readings ahead of time can allow you to experience them in a deeper way on Sunday. Don’t have time to read all three readings? Then just read the Gospel.

The Spiritual Enrichment Committee will present on DVD with Rev. Robert E. Barron. He will answer questions about our Catholic Faith!! Do you have a ques-tion you would like to ask him? If you have questions about: God, The Trinity, Jesus, Spiritual Life, or Prayer, we can ask him! Were: Knights of Columbus Hall, When: March 8, 2020 at 9:40am. Coffee will be offered!

Ejemplificamos el amor y el perdón de Dios como se revela en Jesucristo a través del ejemplo de nuestra vida cristiana;

Adoramos a Dios en la celebración de la Eucaristía y los sacramentos y a través de la oración y la de-voción dentro de nuestras familias y grupos parroquiales;

Fr. Charles Zach
