BloodySaturday:OnJune21st,strikersheldaparadetoprotestthemayorsactions.TheRoyalNorthWestMountedPolice/specialpolicechargedintothecrowdwithclubsandpistols,makingtheaffairviolent.Onestrikerdied,30wereinjuredandmanyothersarrested.Thestrikersthenreturnedtowork.

UnitedFarmersParties:Farmersmadetheirownpoliticalparties.Bytheearly1920s,
Ontarioandtheprairieselectedthesepartieswhichformedthegovernment. FederalProgressivePartyCreatedbyThomasCrerar,aformerministerofagriculturein
Bordensuniongovernment.ItwantedanewNationalPolicybasedonfreetradeandpublicownershipofrailways.Theycontestedthe1921election.
CANADIANSCHOOSEANEWGOVERNMENT
1919WilliamLyonMackenzieKingwaschosentoleadtheLiberals WilliamLyonMackenzieKing:Reputationofareformer,anauthorityonsocialand
economicissues.Hewasconciliatory,alwayslookingforthemiddlepaththatoffendedtheleastamountofpeople.
ArthurMeighen:chosentoreplaceBordenastheleaderoftheConservatives.Hewasabrilliantdebaterandalongstandingmemberofparliament.Hebelievedinprinciplesovercompromiseanddidntcarewhoheoffended.
KingandMeighenhatedeachother;haddifferentapproachestopolitics.(KingwithnotwantingtooffendpeopleandMeighennotcaringifhedid)
Inthe1921FederalElection,Liberalshad117members,Conservativeshad50membersandtheProgressiveshad64.
TheLiberalshadelectedaminoritygovernment(neededthesupportofoppositionmemberstopasslegislation).

SocialCreditParty:LedbyWilliamAberhartandwonthe1935electioninAlberta.AberhartwasacharismaticpreacherandhighschoolteacherfromCalgary.Hethoughtthatcapitalismwasawastefuleconomicsystemandthoughtthatthegovernmentshouldputmoneyintotheeconomysothatpeoplecouldspendit.Hepromisedeachcitizenabasicdividendof25dollarsamonth,butsocialcreditwasdisallowedbytheSupremeCourt.Thepartyremainedinpowerhoweveruntil1971underErnestManningandHarryStrom.
