Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living. Reflection on the Gospel of Mark 10:2-16 In today’s gospel, Jesus restores God’s design for marriage. A man and woman are joined together by God for life and they are to welcome children. As we receive Jesus into our hearts, let us ask Him to soften them so we welcome the kingdom of God as children.

My Friends in Christ:

A SPECIAL DAY FOR REJOICING

On Monday, October 1st, our parish received some very exciting news: Sr. Elizabeth was notified that, after much work and dedication, St. Jude School has been announced as A Blue Ribbon School of Excellence!!! The U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, announced that eight parish and elementary schools from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia were selected as the 2018 National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. And St. Jude, for the first time, earned this prestigious recognition!!

A National Blue Ribbon recognizes schools based on their exemplary learning and teaching as well as overall academic excellence. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools who demonstrate the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. Amazingly, there were only 49 nonpublic schools in the United States who were selected as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence this year, eight of which were from our Archdiocese!

The second exciting piece of good news we received on October 1st was that the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia has awarded St. Jude School a $10,000 grant for upgrading and expanding our school security system! This will further help to enhance our already safe and protected Education Center environment!

St. Paul reminds us that when one member of the Body of Christ is honored, we are all honored and when one member rejoices, we should all rejoice. Our parish community is so very proud of the academic excellence and formation of our children that our school provides. We celebrate and rejoice with them! Congratulation Sister Elizabeth!!

ANNUAL PARISH FINANCIAL REPORT

This weekend I am publishing the Annual Parish Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018. To make this report as accessible as possible, we are providing this report in various ways: as an insert in our Sunday parish bulletin, posted on our parish website at stjudechalfont.org, as well as a link in our Parish e-Newsletter. My goal, as always, is to ensure complete and total transparency regarding the financial operations of our parish. The report is a snapshot of the annual parish Financial Report that we submitted to the Archdiocese in August. If anyone has any questions or suggestions regarding the report or wishes to see the full detailed financial report, please do not hesitate to contact me or Deacon David, our Parish Business Manager, at the rectory (215-822-0179).

The Annual Parish Financial Report is the result of a great deal of hard work and collaboration on the part of our Finance Council. I am deeply grateful to the Council for their fiduciary oversight, professional expertise and guidance. Please take a moment to thank Marianne Maloney (President), Father Jeffrey Rott, Deacon John Riordan, Deacon Tim Lynch, Deacon Mike Cushing, Deacon David Mitchell, Sister Elizabeth Marley, James Reed, Carlos Moreira, Mark McCool, Bruce Arnold, Robert Barilla, Gerard Cleary, Michael Coleman, Ricardo Ferreira, Brian Hanes, Vincent Mezzanotte, Margaret Rubinacci for their generous and dedicated service to our parish.

God bless! Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor

Session 1: Where Are You? In the first video in the series, we see how

our Loving Father calls us back to Him. 1. Log into your Formed account or go to stjudechalfont.formed.org and register. 2. Watch the 30 minute video on our Community tab, Forgiven, Session 1 3. Ask yourself these questions: “How is guilt like a “check engine” light on the car?”

“Why is a well-formed conscience necessary for happiness?”

Did you hear the good news? On Monday, October 1, 2018, Betsy DeVos, U.S. Secretary of Education, recognized ST. JUDE SCHOOL as one of the National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018! St. Jude School was honored as an Exemplary High Performing School in PA as measured by nationally normed tests. The coveted National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Congratulations and thank you to all past and present educators, families, students, and members of our St. Jude community! We are indeed ST. JUDE PROUD AND GRATEFUL!

Our prayers are offered for our parish students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, October 6th. Bishop Michael Fitzgerald confirmed 102 students in a beautiful celebration of the Sacrament within the Mass at 11:00 am. Parents, sponsors, and family members filled the church in prayerful support of our young Catholics who have been confirmed in their faith and sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our Liturgy was enhanced by the service of our Blessed Sacrament Guild, ushers, altar servers, environment team, and music ministry. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire, guide and direct the newly confirmed members of our faith all the days of their lives.

Please join us for "Welcome in Wednesday", October 24th, 9:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Jude School, 2018 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence! Meet our students and faculty and experience the St. Jude difference. Call Pat Kerwin at 215-822-9225 x 251 to register.

COME HOLY SPIRIT, COME

Yesterday, October 6, 2018, 102 seventh grade St. Jude parish students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our parish was honored to have Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald confer upon our students this Sacrament. The Confirmation Day was filled with great joy. The families were so proud of their sons and daughters. Our Confirmandi were well prepared and clearly open to receiving the grace that comes from the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

A special thank you to our principal Sr. Elizabeth, Mrs. Lori Rawski and all our teachers and catechists for preparing our students to receive this sacrament. Please join me in congratulating to the following students: Monsignor Francis W. Beach
