PERSONAL SAFETY

TOOL USE AND CARE

[] Use clamps or other practical way to secure andsupport the workpiece to a stable platform. Holdingthe work by hand or against your body is unstable andmay lead to loss of control.

[] Do not force tool Use the correct tool for your ap-plication. The correct tool will do the job better andsafer at the rate for which it is designed.

[] Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off.A tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dan-gerous and must be repaired.

[] Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharpand dean. Properly maintained tools with sharp cut-ting edges are less likely to bind and are easier tocontrol.

[] Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,breakage of parts, and any other condition thatmay affect the tool's operation, if damaged, havethe tooJ serviced before using. Many accidents arecaused by poorly maintained tools.

When servicing a tool, use only identical replace-merit parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenancesection of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts orfailure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create arisk of shock or injury.

[] Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces whenperforming an operation where the cutting tool maycontact hidden wiring. Contact with a "live" wire willalso make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" andshock the operator.

[] Know your power tool. Read operator's manualcarefully. Learn its applications and limitations, aswell as the specific potential hazards related to thistool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electricshock, fire, or serious injury.

[] Always wear safety glasses with side shields.Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses.They are NOT safety glasses. Following this rule willreduce the risk of eye injury.

[] Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode inthe presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilotlight. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury,never use any cordless product in the presence ofopen flame. An exploded battery can propel debris andchemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately.

[] Do not charge battery tool in a damp or wet loca-tion. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electricshock.

[] For best results, your battery tool should becharged in a location where the temperature ismore than 50°F but less than 100°F. Do not storeoutside or in vehicles.

[] Under extreme usage or temperature condi-tions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comesin contact with your skin, wash immediately withsoap and water, then neutralize with lemon juiceor vinegar, if liquid gets into your eyes, flush themwith clean water for at least 10 minutes, then seekimmediate medical attention. Following this rule willreduce the risk of serious personal injury.

APPLiCATiONS

You may use this tool for the following purposes:

[] Driving screws with screwdriver bits

[] Light-duty drilling

CHARGING THE SCREWDRIVER

This tool has been shipped in a low charge condition toprevent possible problems. Therefore, you should chargeit overnight prior to use.

NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first timethey are charged. Allow several cycles (driving screwsfollowed by recharging) for them to become fully charged.

If the charger does not charge the screwdriver undernormal circumstances, return both the screwdriver andcharger to the nearest Sears Repair Center for electricalcheck.

[] Charge battery only with the charging assembly pro-vided.

[] Make sure power supply is normal house voltage, 120volts, 60 Hz, AC only.

[] Connect charger to screwdriver by inserting chargerplug into input jack. The input jack is located on theinside of the tool handle, below the switch.

[] Connect charger to power supply.

[] The charge indicator light (LED), located on the back ofthe charger, will light up and glow when the charger isproperly connected to the power supply. This light in-dicates the charger is operating properly. It will remainon until the charger is disconnected from the powersupply.

[] After normal usage, 3 to 6 hours is required to rechargebatteries.

NOTE: If batteries are completely discharged, 6 hoursor longer of charging time is required to fully rechargebatteries.

[] The battery will become slightly warm to the touchwhile charging. This is normal and does not indicate aproblem.

[] Do not operate the tool while it is connected to thecharger. The driving ability will not increase.

[] Do not place charger in an area of extreme heator cold. It will work best at temperatures between50°F-100°F.

[] When batteries become fully charged, unplug chargerfrom power supply and disconnect it from tool.

CHARGINGA HOT BATTERY

When using the screwdriver continuously, the batteries inthe tool will become hot. You should let a hot battery cooldown for approximately 30 minutes before attempting torecharge.

NOTE: This situation only occurs when continuous useof the screwdriver causes the batteries to become hot.It does not occur under normal circumstances. Refer to

CHARGING THE SCREWDRIVER for normal rechargingof batteries. If the charger does not charge the batteriesunder normal circumstances, return the charger to thenearest Sears Repair Center for electrical check.

The collet on the screwdriver has been designed toaccept 1/4 in. hex bits.

INSTALLING/REMOVING BITS

See Figure 3.

Insert bit into collet as far as possible to install. To remove,pull bit out of collet.

ADJUSTING TORQUE

See Figure 3.There are twelve torque indicator settings located on thefront of the screwdriver. To select a torque setting, rotatethe torque adjustment ring to the desired number andalign it with the arrow on top of the motor housing.

5 - 8 For driving screws into soft material

9 - 12 For driving screws into other materials

This product is equipped with an adjustable torque clutchfor driving different types of screws into different mate-rials. The proper setting depends on the type of materialand the size of screw you are using.

See Figure 4.The screwdriver has a forward/reverse feature that allowsyou to change the direction of bit rotation. For drivingscrews, depress switch up; for removing screws, depressbottom of switch.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Mostplastics are susceptible to damage from various types ofcommercial solvents and may be damaged by their use.Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils,etc., come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicalscan damage, weaken or destroy plastic which mayresult in serious personal injury.

Only the parts shown on the parts list are intended to berepaired or replaced by the customer. All other parts shouldbe replaced at a Sears Service Center.

BATTERY PACK REMOVAL AND PREPARATIONFOR RECYCLING

See Figure 5.TO REMOVE:

m Remove the three screws securing motor housing coverthen remove cover.

m Lift batteries from motor housing enough to exposeleads and battery terminals. Disconnect leads frombattery terminals. NOTE: Be careful not to break batteryleads when disconnecting them.

recycle or dispose of batteries properly.

This product contains nickel-cadmiumbatteries. Local, state or federallaws may prohibit disposal of nickel-cadmium batteries in ordinary trash.

Consult a local waste authority for information regardingavailable recycling and/or disposal options.

A WARNING: Upon removal, cover the battery pack'sterminals with heavy-duty adhesive tape. Do notattempt to destroy or disassemble battery pack orremove any of its components. Nickel-cadmiumbatteries must be recycled or disposed of properly.Also, never touch both terminals with metal objectsand/or body parts as short circuit may result. Keepaway from children. Failure to comply with thesewarnings could result in fire and/or serious injury.

BATTERIES

The screwdriver is equipped with 4 nickel-cadmiumrechargeable batteries. Length of service from eachcharging will depend on the type of work you are doing.

The batteries in this tool have been designed to providemaximum trouble free life. However, like all batteries, theywill eventually wear out. To remove and dispose batteries,follow BATTERY REMOVAL instructions. Handling of these

batteries, especially when wearing rings and jewelry, couldresult in a serious burn.

To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest thefollowing:

m Remove the tool from the charger once it is fullycharged and ready for use.

For battery pack storage longer than 30 days:

m Store the battery pack where the temperature is below80°F.

m Store battery packs in a "discharged" condition.
