All Saints Day, the day on which Catholics celebrate all the saints is Thursday November 1 st . It is a surprisingly old feast. It arose out of the Chrisan tradion of celebrang the martyrdom of saints on the anniversary of their martyrdom. When martyrdoms increased during the persecuons of the late Roman Empire, local dioceses instuted a common feast day in order to ensure that all martyrs, known and unknown, were properly honoured. "Halloween" is a contracon of "All Hallows Eve," and it designates the vigil of All Hallows Day, more commonly known today as All Saints Day. ("Hallow," is an old English word for saint.) All Saints Day, both the feast and the vigil, have been celebrated since the early eighth century, when they were instuted by Pope Gregory III in Rome. Father, All-Powerful and ever-living God,

today we rejoice in the holy men and women of every time and place.

May their prayers bring us your forgiveness and love

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Deputy Principal-Student Welfare News Movember November is Movember month; it is the month where men can grow their moustache proudly knowing they are raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health. It is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world.

The challenge and invite has been thrown to the young men of CRC in Years 10 and 11 to join those thousands of men. Any dads, grandfathers, uncles or older brothers are welcome to join and support these courageous young men. Mums, grandmothers, aunts and sisters can also be involved by offering encouragement and donations to the cause. As of Tuesday October 30 ten students have taken up the challenge. If you would like to be part of this year’s CRC Movember Crew all you have to do is register at https://www.movember.com/au/register/details/team_id/538597 and from November 1st, grow that manly Mo. If you are going to grow a MO please note the gentlemanly rules of Movember. Click Here http://au.movember.com/uploads/files/2012/Mo%20Rules.pdf to read the Movember Rules. Plan your Mo Styles - there is many a Mo to choose from, check out some Manly Mo styles by clicking here http://au.movember.com/uploads/files/2012/Movember%20Style%20Guide.pdf Summer Uniform As indicated in the student diary, the summer uniform is to be worn after Melbourne Cup Day. Secondhand Book Sales 2012 As mentioned in last week’s newsletter a new process of buying and selling secondhand books has been established to streamline and simplify the exchange. As of this year there will be no secondhand book sales held at the school, all buying and selling will be through on online provider Sustainable Schools Shop www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au. The site is very user friendly and easy to navigate. The service provides access to second-hand textbooks, calculators, stationery and musical equipment all year round. Parents can even trade with other parents from different schools and sell textbooks no longer in use at our school. Information on how to access the website will be sent with the 2013 booklist. Results from other schools have been excellent; families enjoyed a more comprehensive and convenient method of trading second-hand textbooks. Families are assisted to list For Sale & Wanted advertisements online and this new system matches buyers with sellers. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal
