Letter From the President

Board of Director's Business

Dear Kipl ing Residents,

The cars, trucks, and school buses for that matter, keep going faster and faster along Wynstone. As a reminder, thespeed limit is 30 MPH. My guess is that driving 30 MPH on Wynstone, verses driving at 45 MPH, wil l cost you about aminute of your time. Your meals won’t even get cold in a minute. Remember this – “Around the curve, l ickety split, abeautiful car, wasn’t it” Burma Shave

This is summer and we have a lot of kids in our community. Many of them walk around, cross Wynstone from time totime at various locations, going to the pool or a friend’s home. We also have bike riders, some of which ride in thestreet and let’s not forget the walkers, both young and old. I t’s time to slow down. I f you agree with me, and want to tryand make an impact, read on.

The Shorewood Police Department is offering another approach for residents concerned with speeding motorists. TheKeep Kids Alive Drive 25 Yard Sign Program offers neighborhoods direct involvement in slowing vehicles down andproviding safer streets. Any interested Shorewood resident can obtain 1 0 (24”x1 8”) Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 yard signsfor 30 days, to disperse between wil l ing neighbors. The signs shall be placed in each resident’s parkway during daylighthours and removed at dusk. This public awareness effort should make an immediate impact on speeding drivers in yourneighborhood. RememberMtraffic safety is ALL our business!

Community Interest

This month, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closedabove 1 5,000 for the first time. What does Dow 1 5,000mean to you, as an individual investor?

If you own stock, it's obviously good news that priceshave risen so dramatical ly. None the less, sooner orlater, the markets wil l change course. When thishappens, what should you do?

First, don't panic- corrections of 1 0 percent or more are anormal part of the market cycle. Also, keep investing. I fyou head to the investment sidel ines, you could miss outon opportunities when the market recovers.

Next, review your portfol io to make sure it sti l l fits yourneeds and risk tolerance.

Final ly, keep looking for ways to diversify. Diversificationcan't guarantee a profit or protect against a loss, but itcan help reduce the impact of the volati l i ty that occurswhen the market is changing directions.

The Dow at 1 5,000 is a notable event. But today's highscan be quickly forgotten when the market fal ls - so beprepared for that day.

Not A Joke! Even If you disl ike attorneys. . .You wil l lovethem for these tips.

Read this and make a copy for your fi les in case youneed to refer to it someday. Maybe we should al l takesome of his advice. A corporate attorney sent thefol lowing out to the employees in his company:

1 . Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put'PHOTO ID REQUIRED. '

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit cardaccounts, DO NOT put the complete account number onthe 'For' l ine. Instead, just put the last four numbers. Thecredit card company knows the rest of the number, andanyone who might be handling your check as it passesthrough all the check processing channels won't haveaccess to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of yourhome phone. I f you have a PO Box use that instead ofyour home address. I f you do not have a PO Box, useyour work address. Never have your SS# printed on yourchecks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But ifyou have it printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopymachine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc.You wil l know what you had in your wallet and all of theaccount numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.Keep the photocopy in a safe place. We have been toldwe should cancel our credit cards immediately. But thekey is having the tol l free numbers and your cardnumbers handy so you know whom to call .

5. Fi le a police report immediately in the jurisdictionwhere your credit cards, etc. ,were stolen. This proves to credit providers you weredil igent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (ifthere ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of al l : (I nevereven thought to do this.)

6. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizationsimmediately to place a fraud alert on your name and alsocall the Social Security fraud l ine number. I had neverheard of doing that unti l advised by a bank that cal led totel l me an application for credit was made over theInternet in my name. (Equifax: 1 -800-525-6285,Experian: (formerly TRW): 1 -888-397-3742, Trans Union :1 -800-680 7289, and Social Security Administration fraudl ine: 1 -800-269-0271 )

The alert means any company that checks your creditknows your information was stolen, and they have tocontact you by phone to authorize new credit.
