Bonsai is Japanese traditional culture as well as “Kabuki” or “Noh”. Japanese people havze en

joyed the composure of mind by growing the bonsai, and bonsai have been developed as Japane

se traditional culture through 1000 years or more.

Now, it is said that there are more then 5 million people that

love and grow the bonsai. “Bonsai” is the international word

and foreign people know the word very well. In addition “Man-

bonsai” is new wave that people can enjoy more easily and

man-bonsai becomes popular among young parson.


---1.Origin of Bonsai---

The origin of bonsai is old. The first time that bonsai was

written in the Japanese document is Kamakura period (13-1

4C). There is the report that the origin of bonsai is “Bonkei” t

hat was imported by the Japanese envoy to Tang Dynasty C

hina. But the thought they plant the bonsai and straighten th

e shape of it for explaining the Japanese scenery or nature-v

iews in bonsai itself. From the end of Kamakura period to Mu

romachi period (14-16C) bonsai became so popular among t

he samurai society from the court noble society. And then, i

n Edo period (17-19C) bonsai is developed and refined very

much as Japanese original style, and it have been succeede

d until today.
