Today’s Psalm reminds us to not harden our hearts when we hear God’s voice. The Gospel ends with a reminder that as two or more are gathered, God

will be with us. What an awesome God we have, providing guidance and support as we serve. Service or stewardship is a disciples’ response and we are all called as disciples. Each of us has a part, something to give, some way to serve. Sacred Heart is blessed with many parishioners who exemplify stewardship. This week, there is a bulletin insert providing more information about stewardship at Sacred Heart. If you hear God calling you today to use your time, talent and / or treasure, Sacred Heart has a Stewardship Council to assist you. The names of the Stewardship Council are in the bulletin. As many of you know after over 20 years of dedicated service Anne Pacosa retired in April and I have assumed the Development Director role. In this role, I continue to be amazed at the generosity of Sacred Heart parishioners as they serve unselfishly through offering their time, talent and treasures. As we continue forward in service as a parish, I welcome any input or feedback…..my door is always open.

Catechetical Sunday September 17 Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a com-munity of faith. Please pray for our CCD catechists as they teach the children about our faith. asked and, sometimes, we ask ourselves. Why do we believe that God exists, that he became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually his body? Join us for Faith, Food & Fellowship on Sundays during CCD as we read the book “Why We’re Catholic”. Classes are from 10:30 -11:15 beginning Aug. 20 in the Social Hall,

Room 103. Books will be available for $4 at class or in the office. Whether you’re a Catholic looking to

deepen your faith or you’re curious about the claims made by the Church, join us as we delve deeper in

what we believe.

Is God Calling You? Many people attend Sacred Heart Parish that are not fully initiated into the Catholic Faith. And we are so glad you do and you are most welcome! However, have you asked God if NOW might be a good time to enter the wonderful process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)? Classes begin Aug 22 and are held each Tues at 7pm in the Social Hall. Childcare will be available. For more information, contact Michelle in the church office at 478-923-0124. The next Baptism Preparation Class will be on Thursday, Oct 5, 2017 at 7:00pm. The Baptism Preparation Class is offered every other month for parents

Pre Cana Workshop The next Marriage Pre Cana Workshop is September 16

Blessings to all parishioners!! My name is Johanna Torres, I am the Missionary who will be coming to let you know more about our Divine Mercy Church. We have been building our Church since the year 2007. Through the efforts of a very determined, humble, and kind group we were able to begin building our church without any funds. I remember Father Edgard Sacasa said he would donate "some used" iron rods from an old church, and since we did not have anything, we said "fine.... we'll take anything" and so there..... at the foun-dations of our church are some used-up iron rods, that along with our determination, trusted our good Lord's providence!! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and telling you about your extended catholic family here in Nicaragua. Look forward to seeing you all!!

CENTINELAS DE DIOS

En el mundo de la antigüedad los centinelas eran gente de gran importancia. Mantenían la seguridad de las comunidades y su deber era alertarles sobre cualquier peligro o ataque inminente. Antes de que hubiera cerrojos, sistemas de alarma y seguridad, los centinelas eran los protectores, la medida de seguridad. Así que cuando hoy el Señor le encarga a Ezequiel ser centinela, es un cargo de peso. Tan pesado, se nos hace conocer, que si Ezequiel falla y no da la voz de alarma a los que le rodean y ellos mueren en estado de maldad, ¡Ezequiel será el responsable! Este profundo vínculo entre la voluntad de Dios en la tierra y en el cielo se repite en el Evangelio de hoy, donde Jesús nos instruye que tenemos que ser la fuerza de seguridad, los centinelas colocados en estado de alerta para que en ninguna parte del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Iglesia, haya dos miembros del único Cuerpo que no estén reconciliados. La Sagrada Escritura nos dice que Jesús reconcilió todas las cosas en el cielo y en la tierra mediante la sangre de su cruz. Pero se nos da la misión de continuar esa reconciliación en la tierra por medio de nuestros incesantes esfuerzos de ser, como escribiera Pablo, embajadores de reconciliación. No nos quedemos muy cómodos pensando que nuestra única responsabilidad es mantenernos fuera del camino de la maldad y la discordia. También hemos de responder por la vida de los miembros de Cristo que nos rodean.

NUESTRO MINISTERIO HISPANO

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Durante todo el mes de septiembre se celebra el mes de la herencia hispana. Esta fiesta responde a una presencia hispana que tiene su inicio con la llegada de los españoles a la Florida en 1513, hace 501 años. Los españoles estuvieron en 24 de los ahora 50 estados de Estados Unidos. Eventualmente, como bien sabemos, Florida, el Suroeste y Puerto Rico pasaron a manos de los estadounidenses. Desde nuestra incorporación a este país hemos ido creciendo en presencia e influencia. La primera obra literaria en español publicada en EE. UU., fue un sermón de don José Agustín Caballero en 1804. En 1808 inició la prensa hispana en EE. UU. con el periódico El Misisipi en Nueva Orleáns. Este fue el primero de los medios de comunicación en español en esta nación. En 1822 se eligió el primer político Hispano como representante estatal de Florida. En 1865 la primera oficina para la pastoral católica entre los hispanos nombró al sacerdote Gabriel Serrano pastor hispanorium (pastor de los hispanos) en San Francisco, California. En 1970 el sacerdote Patricio Flores fue el primer hispano en ser consagrado como Obispo en y para Estados Unidos. En 1972 celebramos el Primer Encuentro Nacional de Católicos Hispanos donde nos auto nominamos un pueblo en marcha. Y seguimos caminando.
