Connecting with others at Convergence In addition to the great line-up of sessions and content that Convergence offers, networking is one of the most valuable aspects of this event. Don’t miss these key opportunities to connect with others.

Convergence Experience Center (CEC)Whether you want to connect with Microsoft solutions experts, exhibiting partners, or other delegates, the Convergence Experience Center brings everyone together in one central location—making it the hub for networking here at Convergence. See page 36 for more information on everything the CEC offers.

Welcome Reception in the CECOn Monday evening 30 November, 17:00 – 19:00, join us for the Welcome Reception, taking place in the center of the action—the Convergence Experience Center. Enjoy refreshments and tapas while you experience the latest solutions and offerings from our partners and network with your peers.

Happy Hour in the CECJoin your fellow delegates again on Tuesday evening 1 December, 16:30 – 17:30, for Happy Hour in the Convergence Experience Center. Follow up with anyone you missed on Monday, make new connections, and explore the many partner offerings.

Country LoungesIf you’re interested in meeting up with other delegates or Microsoft contacts from your region, visit the Country Lounges where you’ll see some familiar faces and make new connections.

QR codes on badges If you opted-in to include a QR code on your conference badge, you can use the Convergence app to quickly scan and share contact information with other delegates who have opted in.

Roundtable discussionsDiscuss focused topics with other delegates who are in the same industry as you. This is a great way to network, while also gaining some valuable ideas and insights from like-minded individuals. Join us on Monday 30 November, 13:00 – 15:00, in Hall 8. You will find the individual sessions and associated rooms in the Session Catalog/Schedule Builder.

Communications network PCs featuring high speed internet connectivity are available at various locations throughout the convention center. These kiosks provide quick access to the Convergence website and personalized event resources such as Schedule Builder and online evaluation forms. In addition, take the opportunity to connect with others back home or at the office, as all stations are Skype enabled with headsets and video capable.

Social networkingJoin the conversation with other delegates using our event hashtag #Conv15. Engage with us on Facebook and LinkedIn as well to stay connected.

Wireless internet access Microsoft is providing free wireless internet at Convergence EMEA 2015. While you are attending Convergence, please feel free to connect to and use one of the following: Convergence2015-5GHz or Convergence2015

When you are prompted for a password, please use: barcelona2015

Make sure you are not connected to an AD-HOC/Peer-to-Peer network, and that you are in an area that supports WiFi.

The Convergence2015-5GHz network is the higher performing network with more available channels, faster speeds, and is available throughout the convention center and Keynote hall. If your WiFi device sees the Convergence2015-5GHz network please select it. Note that in the Keynote (Hall 6) and the Convergence Experience Center (Hall 7), Microsoft has cleared wireless access points off the congested 2.4 GHz frequencies to allow as much room as possible for demos requiring access at those frequencies. The Convergence2015-5Ghz network will be the only network available to delegates in these spaces. Due to the user load in congested areas, you may experience a slow connection or have difficulty connecting to the network at times. If that is the case, you may want to move to a less congested area. Rogue APs can cause problems for delegates attempting to use the wireless system and can degrade WiFi performance for everyone. Personal APs or base-stations of any kind should not be used inside the convention center or keynote hall.

Security and the Convergence wireless networkThe wireless network at Convergence is a shared network, designed to require minimal configuration by delegates. We have enabled WPA security protocol, though we do recommend that you be prudent in securing your resources, as you should on any public wireless network.

Be a good wireless neighborPlease be considerate and share available bandwidth with your fellow delegates. Downloading large video files from a video sharing service, for example, consumes a disproportionate amount of bandwidth, and negatively impacts the experience of your fellow delegate.

In order for Microsoft to deliver a robust and dependable wireless experience for all Convergence delegates, we ask that you read and follow these best practices prior to connecting to the wireless or wired networks:

Updates:

• Install all critical patches and updates for your operating system. Windows Update is included in Control Panel.• Download and install the latest anti-virus signatures for your software.• Ensure that your personal firewall software is active.

General:

• Ensure that your system is set to infrastructure wireless use only and is not associating to, or broadcasting ad-hoc networks.• Monitor your connections—do not connect to the wireless and wired networks at the same time.

Liability for damage or loss of dataMicrosoft will not be responsible for any damages to your computer or device, or loss of data caused by accessing the Convergence wireless network, or by your inability to access it.

• Carry a photocopy of your passport with you and leave the original in your room safe or in a sealed envelope at your hotel reception. • On occasions in Barcelona, pre-planned or spontaneous demonstrations with large numbers of persons can occur, and can very quickly escalate. If you should happen upon a demonstration, please avoid on-looking, and where possible, leave the area.

Avoid being a victim • Maintain physical or eye contact with your belongings at all times. • Be aware of your surroundings and who is near you. • Know where you are and where the risk areas are located.

General theft • Do not leave your laptop, mobile telephone, or handbag unattended at any time.

When travelling• Always keep an eye on your laptop and valuables.• Where possible when travelling to unfamiliar places, try to arrive before dark.• Where possible practice a `buddy’ system when checking in/out of hotel or airline counter. One to keep an eye on the bags, and one at the counter.• Always walk with confidence and be aware of your surroundings, wherever you may be.• Avoid showing large amounts of money when paying for items.

Be aware of those around you. • Keep your hand on your wallet or phone when using public transport. • Be aware of possible distraction tactics. • Be aware of pickpockets at all times.

Hotel safety• At your hotel room, make sure the room door closes securely and that the deadbolt works. Keep the deadbolt and safety bar on at all times. • Place your room key in the same place every time, preferably close to the bed. Ask to have the lock or electronic key card changed if you lose your room key.• Open the door only to those you are expecting and after verifying their identity. • Do not leave your laptop in your hotel room if at all possible—if you must leave it, secure it! • Do not leave valuables, passport, confidential papers, credit card receipts etc. lying around at any time. • Always use your room safe.• Carry the hotel business card with you and take a picture of it with your phone. This will have the hotel address and phone numbers on it. • Keep your hotel room details separate from your room key. • Be familiar with the hotel’s emergency plan and locate your nearest emergency exit route/s.

Safety at night• Thieves can target tourist areas or busy restaurants, bars, and clubs. • Try not to leave a venue unescorted late at night. • When traveling at night, try to plan so that you will always be accompanied by a colleague.• If walking at night keep to well-lit routes and walk with someone.• Be aware of people who come up to you and start talking for no reason.• Avoid carrying large sums of cash. • Do not advertise the fact that you are a visitor to the area. • When using the tube/metro/train at night, always try to enter a busy carriage.• Never enter any other type of vehicle unless it has been pre-booked.

Event security• Clearly display your conference badge at all times at the event.• Remove your badge prior to leaving the conference.• Do not leave laptops, mobile phones, pen drives, bags, confidential papers unattended.• Maintain physical or eye contact with your belongings at all times.• Beware of people asking questions unrelated to the matters being discussed.• Report any suspicious persons, behavior or unattended property to the event security.
