Recognize when students have needs that are not being met. (e.g., pre-assess, examine assessment scores, observe)
Recognize a variety of degrees and domains of giftedness.
Construct learning opportunities specific for those needs. (not more...next...)

Quick Strategy: Be less helpful.
✤ Think about all the scaffolding you provide.
✤ Take that scaffolding away.
✤ Provide it if they need it.

CONCLUSIONS?
America emphasizes minimum achievement gaps, not excellence achievement gaps.
Some students are making more progress than others.
![Page 38: 3 Perspectives that Fail Gifted Students](https://reader030.fdocuments.in/reader030/viewer/2022032711/58ed1e6c1a28aba10d8b4681/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
GIFTED STUDENTS WILL BE SUCCESSFUL ON THEIR OWN.
Consider students’ cultural backgrounds and SES.
Again, recognize gifted students. Provide opportunities for growth.
Provide support systems, including opportunities to work with intellectual peers and access to counselors.
Advocate for special services. Would acceleration be appropriate?
#2What you can do:
![Page 39: 3 Perspectives that Fail Gifted Students](https://reader030.fdocuments.in/reader030/viewer/2022032711/58ed1e6c1a28aba10d8b4681/html5/thumbnails/39.jpg)
ALL STUDENTS DESERVE TO LEARN SOMETHING
NEW EVERYDAY.
![Page 40: 3 Perspectives that Fail Gifted Students](https://reader030.fdocuments.in/reader030/viewer/2022032711/58ed1e6c1a28aba10d8b4681/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)

“A” GIFTED CHILD?
![Page 42: 3 Perspectives that Fail Gifted Students](https://reader030.fdocuments.in/reader030/viewer/2022032711/58ed1e6c1a28aba10d8b4681/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
BECAUSE THERE IS NOT “A” GIFTED CHILD...
THERE SHOULD NOT BE “A” GIFTED PROGRAM
![Page 43: 3 Perspectives that Fail Gifted Students](https://reader030.fdocuments.in/reader030/viewer/2022032711/58ed1e6c1a28aba10d8b4681/html5/thumbnails/43.jpg)

“A” GIFTED PROGRAM IS SUFFICIENT.
Carefully match a student’s needs (degree and domain) with the appropriate service.
Ensure the program provides a therapeutic dosage (effective).
Provide a continuum of services. Dedicate sufficient resources. (next...)
#3What you can do:
