After the course, the trainees should list the routine maintenance items, and be clear
about the purpose of those items. This is the basics of OptiX RTN 910/950
maintenance, and do them well can prevent equipment from some faults.
Besides listing the routine maintenance items, trainees also must grasp the correct
maintenance operations of OptiX RTN 910/950, that is important in the maintenance
and troubleshooting.
Through the checking of routine maintenance items of OptiX RTN 910/950, operators
also need to judge some of the common faults by using some common method like
observe indicator, calling orderwire, etc.
Reference is RTN 910 Maintenance Guide and RTN 950 Maintenance Guide

Before inserting the IF jumper into the IDU or removing the IF jumper or IF cable from
the IDU, the ODU must be powered off .
In the case of an RG-8U or a 1/2-inch IF cable, the IF cable is connected to the IDU
through an IF jumper. In the case of a 5D IF cable, the IF cable is directly connected
to the IDU.
Do not remove or insert the IF jumper or IF cable when the ODU is powered on.

The operator on site can judge the service is normal or not by observing the SRV
indicator. For example, if the SRV indicator lit red, usually is caused by the receiving
power problem and the service in this board is lost or switched to other board. Youmay take out the patch cord or the cable to check.
Note:
The STAT indicator on some boards may not light when the equipment is
powered on due to data configuration.

Checking the equipment room periodically not only ensures that the equipment can
operate normally in appropriate temperature and humidity conditions, but also
reduces the fault rate and increases the service life of the equipment.
Procedure
Record the reading of the thermometer in the equipment room. The normal
temperature should be between5C and +55C.
Record the reading of the humidity meter in the equipment room. The normal
humidity should be between 5% and 95%.
Check whether the equipment room meets the disaster protection
requirements. Ensure the following points:
There are portable foam fire extinguishers in the equipment room. The
fire extinguishers should be in their service life.
There is no rain leakage or water penetration in the equipment room.
There are no mice or insects in the equipment room.
Clean the equipment room. Ensure that there is no dust on the cabinets, on
the equipment

Procedure
Ensure that the ODU is located within the protected area of the lightning
arrester. In plain areas, the lightning arrester protects the areas within an
angle of 45under it. In mountainous areas and the areas where lightning
frequently occurs, the lightning arrester protects the area within an angle of
30 under it.
Ensure that the ODU is properly fixed on the antenna.
Ensure that the ODU is not damaged.
Ensure that the interface between the ODU and the hybrid coupler/antenna is
waterproof.
Ensure that the protection grounding cable of the ODU is firmly and reliably
grounded.

Checking the NE Status
By checking the NE status periodically, you can detect the NE faults in time.
Browsing the Current Alarms
A current alarm is an alarm that is not cleared. Browsing the current alarms
periodically helps in detecting and rectifying faults in time.
Browsing the History Alarms
A history alarm is an alarm that is cleared. Browsing and storing the history
alarm information periodically helps in locating and rectifying faults.
Browsing the Abnormal Events
This topic describes how to browse the abnormal events. An abnormal event
is an abnormality that arises in the system at a particular time and not an
abnormality that persists for a long time. Browsing the abnormal eventsperiodically helps in detecting equipment faults in time.
Browsing Current Performance Events
Periodically browsing the performance events helps you to check the long-
term running status of the equipment. Hence, the latent hazards can be
detected and cleared in time. The counter of current performance events
measures all the performance events that arise between the start time of the
monitoring period and the current time.
Browsing the History Performance Events
Periodically browsing and storing the history performance events helps in
locating faults.

Browsing the History Transmit Power and Receive Power
By browsing the history transmit power and receive power periodically, you
can know the change trend of the history transmit power and receive power,
which provides references for troubleshooting the radio link.
Testing the IF 1+1 Switching
Testing the IF 1+1 switching periodically helps in checking whether switching
can be performed on the equipment normally.
Testing the IF N+1 Switching
Testing the IF N+1 switching periodically helps in checking whether switching
can be performed on the equipment normally.
Applies only to the equipment that is configured in 1+1 protection mode.
During the 1+1 protection switching (< 500 ms), the protected services are interrupted.Hence, it is recommended that you perform the 1+1 protection switching when the
traffic is light.

Hardware loopback is classified into optical cable loopback, PDH cable loopback, and
Ethernet port loopback.
Optical cable loopback indicates that the receive and transmit optical fibers are
connected through a fiber jumper on the ODF. In certain occasions, an optical
attenuator is added based on the actual situation, to prevent the optical board
from being damaged by the excessive receive optical power.
PDH cable loopback indicates that the receive and transmit PDH cables are
connected through a short-circuiting cable or connector on the DDF.
Ethernet port loopback indicates that the receive and transmit service signals
on one Ethernet port are looped back through a special loopback Ethernet
cable.

Impact on System
If no protection board is available, the replacement of the system control,
switching, and timing board results in service interruption. After the NE starts up normally, the STAT indicator on the board is green, and the
PROG indicator on the board is off.
In the process of restoring the NE database, the PROG indicator on the board blinks
in green.
If the PROG indicator stops blinking and is on and green for 10 seconds, it indicates
that the deployment script is run successfully. The PROG indicator is then normally
on and green.
If the PROG indicator stops blinking and is on and red for 10 seconds, it indicates that
the deployment script is run unsuccessfully. The PROG indicator is then normally on
and green. In this case, contact Huawei technical support engineers for rectifying thefault.

Install the ODU
a. Remove the protective cap on the antenna interface of the ODU. Apply an
appropriate amount of lubricant to the gasket of the feeder on the antenna,
coupler, or ODU adapter.
CAUTION:
Do not dispense the lubricant on the front panel of the feeder.
Otherwise, it may affect the signal transmission.
b. Keep the direction indicated by the polarization arrow on the ODU consistent
with the polarization direction of the antenna or hybrid coupler. (In the case
of vertical polarization, keep the polarization arrow vertical. In the case of
horizontal polarization, keep the polarization arrow horizontal). Slowly fit the
antenna interface of the ODU into the feeder until the four latches on theODU engage with the hooks on the antenna.
c. Lock the four latches in a diagonal order.

Caution
During the PRBS test, the services on the tested path are interrupted.
The PRBS test can be performed only on one path and in one direction.
Before you perform the PRBS test for the protection IF board of a 1+1HSB/FD/SD protection group, you must switch the protection IF board to theworking state manually.
The protection IF board does not support the PRBS test. To test the protectionradio link, you need to power off the main ODU and perform the PRBS test onthe main IF board. In this case, the PRBS signals are sent out of the protectionIF board through the protection bus, thus implementing the PRBS test of theradio link.
Procedure
Perform an outloop on the IF board. For details, see 7.3.4 Setting Loopbackfor the IF Board.
Select the IF board from the Object Tree.
Choose Configuration > PRBS Test from the Function Tree.
Select the port to be tested.
Set Duration and Measured in Time.
The time unit of the PRBS test can be one second, 10 minutes, or onehour.
A maximum of 255 test cycles is permissible for the PRBS test.
Optional: Select Accumulating Mode.
Click Start to Test. Then, a prompt dialog box is displayed.
Click OK.
When Process is displayed as 100%, click Query to check the test result.
