Random Thoughts from Fred

Thanks to all of you who worked at the Artisans’ Fair. Special thanks go to Joe Ann Hancock and Shirley Bartell for months of hard work and a huge success. When our vendors are HAPPY, we can be sure that the show was a success. The measure of this year’s success can be gauged by the MANY thank you letters we have received from our vendors. Many stated they would definitely return next year.

The Library Fine Art Show was also terrific. Thank you Helen Jenson for the time and effort you put into the show. Our artists sold more works of art this year than ever before. The show was very WELL attended and enjoyed by the attendees.

The Double Takes Show also was a great showing of the artistry and imagination of our artists. Thanks to all who participated.

The new front entrance information board is ordered and will arrive shortly. The board will be mounted on the porch wall between the door and the stained glass window. It is 36 inches high and 72 inches long. We will post all the information regarding the meetings and events. A volunteer to manage the information and to do the posting would be appreciated. This will not be a hard job but an IMPORTANT one. Grab the opportunity to help your club!

The Spring Fine Art Show is now in the final stages of planning. The starting date is coming quickly on March 25, with an Artists’ Reception from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

We will need some volunteers to fill positions. The Vice-President position will be available in June. West of Center Show is in need of a co-chair. West of Center Show is an important event for the club. We enjoy a unique relationship with the museum where we have the show for 3 months during the summer. Please step forward to help.

Anyone interested in becoming involved, please talk to any of the Board Members.

February Artist of the Month

Four pieces were entered, but the two-dimensional pieces swept the competition. Congratulations to Jeanine Brown for earning the first place award with her oil landscape “Hassayampa Preserve”.

Patti Knowlton’s oil portrait “Mt. Man” received second place honors, while third place went to Kay Neola McWilliams’ painting “Shawnee’s”.

Members – juried or not - are encouraged to bring their art and “join the fray” at each of our monthly meetings! Congratulations to Pierre Prouty. He is this month’s Arizona Art Supply $25 gift certificate winner. Once again, we thank AAS for their generous support.

Meanwhile.... Simple Secrets for Good Photography Donna Drake, Chair Thursdays at 1:00 in the studio gallery! The public is invited, right along with our members who want to know more about improving their digital photos!

March 1st: Basic Photoshop March 8th: Open session - bring your cameras, laptop, and photos for questions, feedback, and ideas. Featured Artists Dean Gundersen and Shirley Bartell will exhibit in the main gallery from March 3 through March 20. Woodworking and mixed media.

The March Photography Group meeting will be Monday, March 5th. Join us at 6:00pm to chat, the meeting starts at 6:30. Guest Speaker Joe Webster will be presenting info on "Instill Life in Your Still Life." Also, we'll be sharing photos from our last two months' themes: Self-Portrait: No Face, and Doors and Windows.
