RAIDER REVIEW: The 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series gets underway tonight as the Raiders host the Vancouver
Giants in Game 1 at the Art Hauser Centre. The Raiders secured their spot in the series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup by
defeating the Edmonton Oil Kings in six games in the Eastern Conference Championship. The series concluded with the
Raiders beating the Oil Kings 4-2 at Rogers Place on Sunday afternoon. Out west, the Giants won the Western
Conference Championship in five games against the Spokane Chiefs. The series was wrapped up with a 3-2 win for the
Giants in Game 5 last Friday night. To get to this point, the Raiders have won 12 of their 16 games while the Giants
earned their 12 wins in 15 contests.
VS. VANCOUVER: The Raiders lost their only matchup with the Vancouver Giants by a 3-1 score at the Langley Events Centre in January. Brayden Pachal scored the Raiders’ lone goal. Davis Koch had a pair of goals for the Giants. Ian Scott stopped 25 shots in the loss. Trent Miner made 31 saves in the win.
AWARDS: Aliaksei Protas and Ian Scott were recognized for their play over the past month on Tuesday. The Belarusian import was named the WHL Rookie of the Month for April, WHL On the Run Player of the Week, and CHL Player of the Week for the period ending on April 28. Scott took home WHL Vaughn Goaltender of the Month for April and WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week honours for the week ending April 28.
HIGH SCORING: Following the two Conference Championships, the 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series features the top six scorers in the WHL Playoffs. The Giants hold the top two spots with Bowen Byram leading the way with 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists), followed closely by teammate Davis Koch’s 17 points (two goals, 15 assists). The next four spots are held by the Raiders with Noah Gregor (seven goals, nine assists) and Brett Leason (five goals, 11 assists) sharing third. Aliaksei Protas (11 goals, four assists) and Dante Hannoun (nine goals, six assists) are tied with 15 points.
GIANT KILLER: While the Raiders only see the Giants once a year, overager Dante Hannoun is very familiar with Vancouver. In his WHL career that saw the Delta, BC product play in 318 regular season and WHL Playoffs games with the Victoria Royals, Hannoun has squared off with the Giants 50 times. In those games against Vancouver, the overage centreman has 17 goals and 34 assists. Included in that total is a three-goal, nine-assist performance in the Royals’ seven-game series against the Giants during last year’s WHL Playoffs.
VIPER STRIKES: Aliaksei Protas has been putting up great offensive numbers for the Raiders during their current run in the WHL Playoffs. Protas, who was ranked 44th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s final NHL Draft rankings, recorded back-to-back hat tricks to help close out the Edmonton Oil Kings to bring his goal total to 11 in 16 WHL Playoffs games. That matches his goal total from the entire 2018-19 regular season.
STREAKS: After being held off the scoresheet in the first three games of the Eastern Conference Championship, Brett Leason has two goals and two assists during his current three-game point streak. Leason is tied with Sergei Sapego for the longest active point streak on the team. The Belarusian blueliner has four assists over the last three contests, with three of those helpers coming on goals scored by fellow countryman Aliaksei Protas.
NEXT UP: Game 2 of the 2019 Rogers WHL Championship Series is on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. The series will shift to the Langley Events Centre for Games 3, 4, and 5 beginning on Tuesday night.

GAME NOTES – MAY 3, 2019
GAME #1 (ROGERS WHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES) – VANCOUVER GIANTS AT PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS
THE PLAYOFFS SO FAR – For the first time since 2007 the Vancouver Giants have advanced to the Rogers WHL Championship Series. The G-Men
arrived here thanks to respective series victories against Seattle (6 games), Victoria (4 games) and Spokane (5 games). The Giants finished the
regular season with the top record in the Western Conference (48-15-3-2) and will compete for the Ed Chynoweth Cup against the Prince Albert
Raiders. The Raiders were the only team in the WHL that finished with a higher record (54-10-2-2) than the Giants did. The Giants are 1-1 lifetime
when competing for the Ed Chynoweth Cup and this series marks the first time the Giants and Raiders will have met in the WHL playoffs.
OPPOSITION – The Prince Albert Raiders finished with the WHL’s top regular season record in 2018-19 and were awarded the Scotty Munro Trophy
for their efforts. They have advanced to the Rogers WHL Championship series after defeating the Red Deer Rebels (4 games), Saskatoon Blades (6
games) and the Edmonton Oil Kings (6) in the previous three rounds of the playoffs. The Raiders were last in the WHL championship series in 1985
and that year they were victorious in both the league championship and the Memorial Cup.
QUICK FACTS – The Giants were 1-0 against the Prince Albert Raiders during the regular season. The G-Men defeated Prince Albert 3-1 on January
24th at the LEC by a 3-1 score. Bowen Byram is the reigning WHL Player of the Month after recording four goals and six assists for 10 points in nine
games. The Giants power play has scored at least once in 11 straight playoff games. The Giants are 9-1 when they score first in the playoffs.

GAME #1 (ROGERS WHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES) – VANCOUVER GIANTS AT PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS
A NEW REGIME BEGINS - On May 23rd the Vancouver Giants officially named Barclay Parneta the third General Manager in the
history of the Vancouver Giants. Parenta joined G-Men after spending the past eight seasons with the WHL’s Tri-City
Americans. For the past three seasons, Parneta served as their Assistant GM and Head Scout and for the five seasons
prior he worked as their Prospect Development Coach and Head Scout. Just over a month later the Giants named
Michael Dyck Head Coach. Dyck has 14 seasons worth of coaching experience in the WHL including a four-year stint
(2006-2009) as Head Coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. During his tenure with the Hurricanes, Dyck led his team to a
berth in the 2008 league finals and accumulated a record of 132-120-16. He previously served as an assistant coach with
the Vancouver Giants from 2002-2005. Then in July the G-Men announced the hiring of former NHLer Jamie Heward as
Associate Coach. Heward spent the previous six seasons with the Swift Current Broncos as an Assistant Coach and
helped guide them to a 2018 WHL Championship.
DRAFT DAY – Three Vancouver Giants were selected in the 2018 NHL Draft. In Round 4 (122nd overall) Milos Roman became
the fourth Giant to ever be selected by the Calgary Flames. The 1999-born Slovak scored 10 times and added 22 assists for 32
points in 39 regular season games during his rookie campaign with the Giants. Two rounds later goaltender David Tendeck
was selected by the Arizona Coyotes (Round 6, 158th overall). Tendeck was a second-team WHL all-star in 2017-18. He posted
a record of 25-16-3-2 with a .912 save percentage, a 3.02 goals-against-average and three shutouts. He was the second Giant
to ever be selected by the Coyotes. Three picks later defenceman Alex Kannok Leipert (Round 6, 161st overall) was drafted by
the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals. Kannok Leipert potted five goals and added 16 assists for 21 points in
60 regular season games in 2017-18. He’s the second Giant to ever be selected by the Washington Capitals.
MILESTONE WATCH: On Sunday January 27th against Kelowna Giants goaltender/Arizona Coyotes prospect David Tendeck suited
up in his 100th career WHL game. On Friday, February 22nd David Tendeck earned his 50th career WHL win and seventh career WHL
shutout. The Arizona Coyotes prospect has posted a career record of 54-41-5-3. On Wednesday, January 30th in Kamloops, Davis
Koch took the ice for his 300th career WHL game. Giants captain Jared Dmytriw played in his 300th career WHL game on February 8 in
Kamloops. Defenceman Dylan Plouffe notched his 100th career WHL point with a goal on Tuesday in Seattle.
BYRAM, MINER CRACK CENTRAL SCOUTING’S FINAL RANKINGS – Coming in at #2 for North American skaters on the NHL
Central Scouting’s Final Rankings List was Giants d-man Bowen Byram. The Cranbrook product finished second in team scoring
with 26 goals and 71 points in 67 games. Byram led the entire WHL in overtime goals with six. Also cracking the list was Giants
goalie, Trent Miner who was ranked at #6 among North American goaltenders. Miner had the WHL’s third best goals-against-
average (1.98) and the league’s third best save percentage (.924). He earned three shutouts this season and posted an overall
record of 23-5-1-1.
A BUSY DEADLINE FOR THE G-MEN – Since January 2nd, the Vancouver Giants GM Barclay Parneta has been busy, making four
moves to help improve the team. On January 2nd the Giants acquired 2000-born defenceman Seth Bafaro from Saskatoon in
exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2021. Then on January 4th the The Giants made two deals, first acquiring forward Jadon
Joseph in a deal with Regina in exchange for a 2nd and a 6th round pick. Later that day Barclay Parneta struck another deal
acquiring 1998-born d-man Dallas Hines from Kootenay in exchange for Cyle McNabb. On January 10th the Giants acquired
