    HTD/U units

The units of the series   HTD/U   “HiRefTelecom packaged air conditioning unitsfor indoor applications ” are to be used forthe conditioning of low and mediumpowered telephone exchanges.

They are designed to be mounted insideshelter.

    Versions

Thanks to the innovative design and theoriginal solutions,   HTD/U   can be easlyused in the most different configurationsof the destination site. It is available in thefollowing versions:

    D   HTD version:--  Air delivery Downwards;

D   HTU version:--  Air delivery Upwards.

    Indoor mounting

The machines are designed for an indoormounting with Plug & Play logic, to reducethe installation times and the need ofspecific professional skills in theinstallation step.

    Direct expansion

The   HTD/U   package units aremono--block conditioners with directexpansion and air--cooled condenser. The innovative system of air circulationgives a significant improvement of theperformances in different thermal load

    conditions.

    Reduced noise level

The use of centrifugal fans with 4--polebackward curved blades, together with aScroll--type compressor and a cabinetdesign eliminating every source of innersound reflection and vibrations, makesthis equipmentsuitable also forcity areas.

    Minimized pressure drop

The whole recirculating and Free--Coolingsection has been designed to limit thepressure drop (air side) and to maximizethe unit performance; for this reason, the

HTD/U units are featured by the exclusiveequipment with backward curved bladecentrifugal fans (Plug fans), the widesurfaces of the evaporating coils and ofthe intake grilles, in line with the supplystandard of the main phone companies.

    Structure

All HTD Uunits supporting structure are

made of thick galvanized sheet steel, andenclosing panels made galvanised sheersteel coated with epoxy polyester powderpaint oven cured at 180  ºC (RAL xxxx). Itis featured by rounded shape edges, according to innovative style trends andthe accident prevention. All structuredetails are entirely produced in--housewith automatic processes integrating theCAD--3D designing (solid modeller) withthe production process (CAM) =CAD--CAM.

The unit features an exclusive designwhich, combined with a rational layout ofcomponents and extremely compactdimensions, lends it an attractiveappearance.

    Panelling

The front panels are equipped withhandles for an easy removal forinspections. The unit maintenance can befully made from the front, including theinnovative extractable damper section. This enables a unique flexibility, with unit“On Site Upgrading” and the possibility toaccess and clean the condensatecollecting tray.

    Power supplies

All units are available with different supplyvoltages, with the option of double powersupply. In this case it is possible to havea 48 VDC solution for the air--conditioningcontrol, even in case of power failure.

    European directives

The   HTD/U   units are designed andmanufactured according to the Europeandirectives currently in force, and areconsequently marked  E.

    Features and Fortes

    Design & Technology

    The HTD U

units introduce a new plantmodel featured by a pleasant designmatched with a rational arrangement ofthe components and an excellentassembly compactness.

All units are factory tested by usingautomatic systems based on objective“in--out” criteria and are ready to beinstalled and started by simple wiring on

    site.

    Installation

The HTD U package air--conditioning unitis suitable for all environments exeptaggressive ones. Make sure that the airinlet grilles have more than 0,8 m freespace around. Do not place anyobstacles near the unit and make surethat the air flow is not impeded byobstacles and/or situarions causing backsuction (see Fig. 1).

The recommended sizes for the power

cables and emergency line are shown inTab.1.

    Handling

While the unit is being unloaded andpositioned, utmost care must be taken toavoid abrupt or violent manoeuvres. Theunit must be handled carefully andgently;avoid using machine components asanchorages or holds and always keep it inan upright position. The unit should belifted using the pallet it is packed on; atranspallet or similar conveyance means

    should be used.

    Start--Up

    Preliminary checks

D   Check that the electrical connectionshave been made properly and that allthe terminals are securely tightened. This check should also be included in aperiodic six--month inspection.

D   Check that the voltage at the RSTterminals is 400V + 5% and make surethe yellow indicator light of the phasesequence relay is on. The phase

sequence relay is positioned on theelectric control board; if thesequenceisnot duly observed, it will not enable themachine to start.

D   Make sure there are no refrigerant leaksthat may have been caused byaccidental impacts during transportand/or installation.

D   Check the power supply to thecrankcase heating elements (ifpresent).

    First time starting

    Attention:

The unit is fil led with HFC R407Crefrigerant. This refrigerant belongs to

group I (no toxic- no dangerous)according to EN Norm378 and accordingthe specification contained into CEE law

n5 2037/00.D   Install the unit in the computer room.D   Connect the power supply and the

earth connection to themain switchandto the main earth connection.

The starting procedure is operated bypressing the key “ON” on the controlkeyboard.

    Noise levels

The HTD U units include theexclusiveuseof ventilation solutions, featured by a lowemitted noise level making theseconditioners compatible with cityinstallations. The support structure, thepanels and the fastening systems aredesigned to reduce vibrations and theirtransmission as low frequency soundemissions as much as possible.

    Energy efficiency

The highest possible energy efficiencyhas been the main target in the wholethermo--dynamic and aeraulic designing. The refrigerating circuit is featured by theuse of “rolling piston” or “Scroll”compressors with top reliability and(optional) possibility of replacing thetraditional with an electronically --controlled electric valve: this brings areduced energy consumption by 50%when the outer temperature lowers below20!C and, above all, when the directfree--cooling is not possible. The aerauliccircuit implies the use of centrifugal fanswith backward curved blades, featuredby a very high reaction degree, it is thuspossible to remove the scroll and therelevant energy losses in thedynamic--statical conversion; all used

fans can be equipped with “brushless”motor with permanent magnets andrelevant switching electronics, that canbe directly powered by an emergencymains at 48VDC or 24VDC. In this case, the dc motor efficiency matches with thefan efficiency, thus reaching outstandingenergy results (over 45%).

The Freecooling in simultaneousoperation contributes remarkably toreduce energy costs in the range of outer

temperatures between the inner set pointand TFT (Total Free -- Coolingtemperature).

    Emergency situations

All units can be equipped with dualsupply: main supply and “DC” supply.

    S   Main supply:

    -- Compressor

    -- Heating

    -- Condensing section fan

    S   24VDC or 48VDC supply:

    -- evaporating section fan-- Microprocessor

    -- Damper servomotor

In case of mains failure, a voltagepresence relay signals this to the “mP”control that, together with the ventilationand Free--Cooling section, continues tobe powered by back--up batteries. Thisensures the air--conditioning control evenwith possible inner temperature variationsfrom the set--point values.

    Manufacturing features

All electric, aeraulic and refrigeratingcomponents are assembled inside themachine cabinet and cannot beaccessed from outside, without removingthe panels. The machine has a min.protection degree IP 44 and theprotection grilles of the rotary partscomply with the accident preventionsection of the norms EN 60335; as option,a further protecting grille for thecondensing section fan front is available.

    Manufacturing Specifications

    Structure

The HTD Useries units are dedicated tothe indoor use with temperatures rangingbetween –20!C (under condensationcontrol) and +45!C. The entire innerstructure is made up of hotelectro--galvanized sheet with highthickness, and the outer paneling is insmooth 5005 aluminum alloy or, uponrequest, in galvanized sheet painted withepoxy--polyester powders RAL xxxx,oven--cured at 180!C. If painted, the

colour of the units depends on thecustomer’s specifications for re--orderbatches of more than 20 pieces. Theinnovative global design of the machineenables a complete front accessibilitywhereas the outstanding possibility ofextracting/fitting the damper fromthe frontoffers the double chance of upgrading onsite of the machines originally without theFree--Cooling option, and it offers theaccessibility to theevaporatingcoil andtothe condensate collection tray, too.

    Refrigerating circuit

The refrigerating circuit is entirely in housemanufactured, using welders certifiedaccording to the Directive PED 97/23 onpressurized containers, and all relevantcomponents are certified according to thesame directive. The exclusive rotary or scroll--type usedcompressors are available in the versionfor fluids type HFC (R407C; R134a); forthe non--EEC countries signing theMontreal Protocol, in the version withHCFC R22.

    The machine standard equipment

includes a thermostatic lamination valveand a vacuum start device: this device isenclosed in the Scroll compressor or is

outside in the versions with single--phaserotary compressor/s.The circuit is completed with anti--aciddryer filter with molecular sieve, a flowindicator and pressure intakes for themaintenance and/or inspectionoperations.

    Evaporating fan section

The   HTD U units are fitted withcentrifugal--type fans, with (tilted)backward curved blades and singleintake. These fans are featured bydiverging blade ducts and by a high outerdiameter/inner diameter ratio, enabling toachieve an outstanding aeraulicefficiency; further, a high output speed

and therefore a launch over seven meterscan be reached through their positiontowards the delivery grille. All machinescan be equipped with fans powered bybrushless motors with permanentmagnets, DC supplied at 48V, and in thiscase, combined with the ADVANCEDmicroprocessor. Therefore, it is possibleto pilot directly the rotating speed suitingit to the different operating conditions, such as: de--humidification, energysaving, etc.

    Finned pack evaporator

With its dimensions 25x21.65 and a 3/8”pipe it is composed of 0.10--mm thickaluminum fins and copper pipesexpanded on the same for a completecontact. The design criteria privileges thefront section with the advantage ofreduced losses on the air side, while theexchange surface is sized so as to avoidde--humidification at the project ratedconditions. The condensate collectiontray can be accessed from the unit frontfor cleaning, and can be in galvanizedsheet or, as option, in austenitic stainless

steel AISI 304L. A special flat metallicprefilter protects the evaporating coilagainst dirt: the prefilter can be easly

checked and can be removed from theunit front for cleaning or replacing.

    Recirculation air filtration

The filter is located upstream HTD(downstream HTU) the condensing coiland can be easily extracted by removingthe front panel dedicated to the

filter/damper section. Thanks to itsposition, it filters both the recirculationandthefreshair in case of Free--Cooling: in thelatter case, on the fresh air ejectionsection, a metal filter prevents the nestinginside the container of small animals orinsects. The washable synthetic--typefiber filter, with efficiency EU2, is installedin a galvanized sheet frame for an easymaintenance.

    Condensing fan section

All used 4--pole motors limit the soundemissions, and are outer rotor type to

improve the energy efficiency and reducethe magnetic noise.

    Condenser with finned pack

With geometry 25x21.65 and a 3/8” pipeit is composed of 0.10--mm thickaluminum fins and copper pipesexpanded on the same for a completecontact. The design criteria privileges thefront section with the advantage ofreduced losses on the air side, so that it ispossible to use 6--pole fans withminimized emitted sound power. The

condensing coil can be equipped with ametal filter that can be easily removedfrom oneof themachine sides:this double

access enables the maintenance even incase of double installation on thecontainer wall. A special flat metallicprefilter protects the condensing coilagainst dirt: the prefilter can be easlychecked and can be removed from theunit front for cleaning or replacing.

    Electric board

It is located in a separate cabinet hiddenon the front side by the recirculation airbefore it is cooled by the evaporating coil:this aspect is extremely important for boththe component cooling and, at the sametime, for preventing the condensation on

the bottom side of the board. Allon--boardsystems comply with the EEC Directive“Low tension 73/23” and with the relatednorms. The access to the electric board ispossible with operating unit as it iscompletely separated from the air flow;the protection degree with open panel isIP20.

    Packing

The HTD Uunits are packed on woodenpallet with anti--shock cardboard anglesand upper protection incardboard/polystyrene. In the end, thewhole packing is wrapped with protectiontransparent polythene film.

Application fieldHTD U units are to be used within theoperating limits stated in this manual;failure to comply with said limits willinvalidate the warranties provided in thecontract of sale (Tab.2).

For extreme outdoor conditions up to+45!C.

    5 Free--Cooling with damper

Thanks to the unit designing principle, it ispossible to carry out the “upgrading onsite” on the units not equipped with theFree--Cooling option.

    6 ETV--T “ElectronicThermostatic ValveTechnology”

For applications where the directFree--Cooling is not possible. This solution enables to reduce theenergy consumption up to 50%compared to the standard units when theoutdoor temperature is below 20!C.

Free--Cooling TechnologyThe innovative Free--Cooling systemenables to reach outstanding efficiencylevels, above all when operatingsimultaneously with the mechanicalcooling: this situation, in many central

European climate areas, represents over50% of the yearly total hours.

The damper is further designed to beintegrally extracted, thus enabling acomplete maintenance possibility as wellas the access to the condensatecollection tray.

The HTD Udesigning concept enablesthe upgrading on site of units notequipped with the Free--Cooling option;this is important in such cases where it isnecessary to have a unit stock at

    disposal.

The temperature sensors installed atdelivery, intake and fresh air controlcompletely the damper, improving itsenergy efficiency and avoiding the risk ofinlet air at temperatures lower than thelimit allowed by the electronic equipment.

In case of combination with DUAL supply, mains + DC UPS, the Free--Cooling canenable to control the climate even inemergency situations and, if the two unitsare reciprocally connected, it canimplement all strategies for avoiding to

lose the control of the inner set point of thecontainer (see Fig. 7).

    Damper servomotor withspring return

It positions the dampers completely openor completely closed at the customer’schoice in case of power lack: with anoperation signal connected with a fire

alarm, the damper is usually positionedclosed, to enable the operation of theautomatic switching--off systems. This option must be defined at the order.

    Clogged filter sensor

This differential pressure sensor detectsthe filter clogging and generates an alarmdisplayed by the microprocessor control.

    Heating

It is performed by using heaters inextruded aluminum, with high thermalexchange surface: this aspect enables tomatch reduced thermal inertias with

reduced surface temperatures, to theadvantage of a full use safety. Eachheating element is protected by a safetythermostat directly acting on the supply.

    Outer paneling

The standard supply includes panels inpainted galvanized sheetmetal RAL7035.

    Surface treatments on finnedcoils

An efficient protection against corrosiveagents is guaranteed by thecopper--copper version, the cataphoresisprotection and the use of hydrophilepre--treated aluminum: the protectiongrade is reported in the mentioned order.

    Refrigerants

According to the norm EEC 2037/00, theHTD U units can operate with:

    S  HFC R407C as standard

    S  HFC R134a (optional)S   HCFC R22 Export non--EEC in the

    countries signing the Montreal

    protocol

The unit is supplied: tested and ready tobe started up on the site.

    Alarms

It reports high and low priority alarms onclean contacts. In case of ADVANCEDmicroprocessor, it is possible to have asubdivision of the alarm type in the

terminal board of the electric panel and, generally, it is possible to arrange Customsolutions according to the different supplystandards of the phone companies.

    Air distribution grilles

The wall--mounted air distributions grillesare made of extruded aluminum, withsingle row of adjustable fins andaccident--prevention protection net on thedelivery. In case of Free--Cooling unit, afurther net is arranged on the air outlet toprevent the unwished entry of small

    animals and/or insects.
