“It is really exciting to see that what started as a small initiative in the year 1966 has today became one of the biggest platforms for process industry in India. And it all became possible because of the support from Several Industry Leaders. Chemtech Foundation is a true platform which
is driven by the industry for the industry. We, at CHEMTECH, are absolutely delighted to bring
CHEMTECH to Gujarat. Our founder Mr Jasu Shah is from Gujarat and has always given Gujarat the importance of being ‘first amongst equals’ for all our investments. We will strive to do our very best to make this event the most promising business and innovation destination.”
Mr. Maulik JasubhaiVice Chairman & Chief Executive -
Jasubhai Group & Chemtech Foundation
“Technology, Innovation, Operation Efficiency and Project Management Proficiency are certainly the four key elements that can ensure the success of any project. I am glad to know that Chemtech has very rightly chosen the relevant theme. In the wake of increasing uncertainty and volatility,
these elements are essential for seamless arrangements. I appreciate Chemtech’s efforts to
organise such a comprehensive conference and the exhibition will certainly benefit more than 200 exhibitors and thousands of visitors.”
Mr. B NarayanGroup President (Procurement & Projects)
Reliance Industries Limited
“Dramatic change in market conditions is not a threat; it is an opportunity for all the stakeholders to transform the businesses. We need a collaborated approach to innovate and find alternatives to excel in our businesses - together. It is good to see that Chemtech has created such
a platform where we all can come, discuss and debate the challenges and opportunities.”
Mr. Subramanian SarmaCEO & Managing Director,
L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited
“Instead of waiting for subsidy and tax benefits, we should focus on developing a strong infrastructure, ensuring import of cheap raw material, smooth transportation and plant operations. This will help industries excel in their operations smoothly. I also strongly feel that industry-academia should
come together and develop technology which can benefit the industries in India and enable them to
compete with the rest of the world.”
“India is already playing its role in producing bulk chemicals and now with special focus on biochemical and specialty chemicals, the country is advancing in right direction. Chemical Industry has the onus to ensure the success of various other industries and sectors. Chemical engineers
have the responsibility to continuously innovate. I believe, under the umbrella of Chemtech, we will
continue to play our part and advance in different areas of process industry.”
“It is indeed a good idea to bring Chemtech’s series of Exhibition and Conferences to Gujarat. The state plays a crucial role in the overall production of fertilisers and petrochemicals. Gujarat is home to couple of major refinery i.e., IOCL, Reliance and Essar and about 40% total refining capacities
of India take place in the state.”

“Fall in oil prices will affect companies involved in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), but companies have to take short- and mid-term plans during times of oil prices volatility. These include enlisting the entire company in lowering general and administrative costs to form a leaner
organisation. Tightening supply chain, increasing manufacturing efficiency and negotiate for long-term
feedstock contracts for oil products like ethane and naptha would help to enhance price resilience.”
“Due to globalization, most of the EPC projects are becoming international in nature comprising of owner/contractor from different parts of the world. For successful execution any project, particularly an international project, requires special leadership skills in project manager who
can influence the project by controlling the budget (cost), schedule (time) and quality of all deliverables
and thereby create opportunities for success.”
“India has proven reserves of 170 billion tons of coal as well as quantities of petcoke from refineries mostly with high ash content of more than 45% and high ash melting point (due to high silica and alumina amounts inside). It is possible to process a big portion of the coal/petcoke by using
Gasification to get end products like Ammonia/Fertilizer and Energy.”
“For successful implementation of any EPC project, Project Managers should realize their vision by focusing on ORE (Opportunity, Risk and Execution). Project Manager can accomplish the ORE with the competencies like; great sense of self awareness, strong synthesizing skills, effective action plan and no compromise on ethics & integrity.”

“Refinery off gases (ROG) rich in light hydrocarbons are currently used as fuel due to presence of contaminants and can be grouped as either ‘Saturated’ or ‘Unsaturated’ streams. With using ROG Technology, the value of Off-Gases can be captured through recovery of ethylene, propylene
and possibly hydrogen as products; and ethane, propane and C4+’s to be used as cracking feed for
ethylene plant.”
“Primary stakeholder aspires an early project completion within budget that must be adhered to high safety, quality standards, environment protection and finally a flawless startup. Thus an integrated project management process is needed, and the processes and activities
should be identified, defined, combined, unified and coordinate with other processes and project
management activities within the process groups.”
“The demand growth projection of Polyolefin (PO) in India has estimated a CAGR of 9% in the year 2015-20 from 7.4% in 2010-15 upside with key growth drivers in Infrastructure, Packaging, Agriculture, and Automobiles sector.”

“With the current gloomy global economy, EPC industry should be looking for innovative approaches by creating value through operational efficiencies. In this scenario, project management has to be dynamic and focused on delivering the best value through the best
solutions. Sometimes this involves innovation and cutting-edge technologies, while in other cases it
is a matter of reworking existing solutions to do things faster, better and cheaper.”
“Old plants were designed when the price of fuel was low and was not impacting the operating costs. Thus the technologies employed in the old plants are energy inefficient than the modern technologies. However, new plants, though latest technology is implemented due to capital
constraints and tight schedules, many energy saving measures are not implemented. Whether a
plant is old or new, there are plenty of opportunities to save energy.”

“Styrene, a by-product of the crude oil refining process, has a shelf life; and the waste styrene is generated on a large scale. The waste styrene needs to be disposed and the disposal of waste styrene is a critical application. Thus Industry need to find safe and economic method of
disposing this waste styrene.”
“If we look at the global prospective of survival and economical viability of any organization, every organization in its capacity and in all its might has to take mesures like energy conservation, reducing carbon footprint, adopt environment friendly innovative procedures in production, use
in-house materials and logistics, and make the best use of final waste product towards revenue
generation.”

“The urbanization process hinders natural recharge to the groundwater system. Simultaneously, increasing population creates additional draft from diminishing groundwater resources that leads to rapid decline in water level in urban areas. Rainwater harvesting with appropriate recharge
structure augment groundwater resources. To increase recharge to the groundwater, ground water
recharge work in low lying areas should be initiated by constructing percolations wells.”
“Problem of sewage treatment is mainly because of large quantity and lack of awareness. Increasing population has put more pressure on present treatment plants. Huge investment is required for treating this sewage using available technology. Foreign technologies are costly and most of
these techniques are not suitable for Indian local conditions.”

“Untreated waste water use for irrigation will cause transmission of intestinal infections to agricultural workers. Consumers of wastewater irrigated produce will suffer due to worms and transmission of faecal bacterial diseases, like diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid and cholera. There
are documented instances of users suffering from acute skin and gastric disorders.
The breeding of mosquitoes and other disease vectors is more widespread in crops irrigated by wastewater as compared with breeding of them in freshwater irrigated crops. Soil quality is also likely to be deteriorated with the use of untreated wastewater for irrigation”

“Our customers usually think of a water treatment installation in terms of an important investment, which it certainly is. But they tend to underestimate the operational cost, once the installation has been commissioned: over the years I have seen quite some companies overspending on energy-
consumption and use of chemical additives that could have been avoided.”
‘Conventional waste water treatment technologies in operation today are getting obsolete and we need to bring new technologies to improve the efficiency of operations, capital cost as well as the operational expenses and this is one of the needs of the time where all these attributes
are going to be very important for selecting any technology which is required to be implemented.”

“Treated water is recycled by using Reverse Osmosis technology and using in the boiler for steam generation. The excess secondary sludge generated during the activated sludge process is re-cycled into manure by using Effective Microorganisms technology. Secondary sludge is
having calorific value hence it can be converted into bio-briquettes and can be used as fuel.”
“OMS system basically works for the online monitoring of discharge water in channel. It shows the latest data of the discharged water which automatically gets refreshed every 15 mins and is shown on the dashboard of the application. Same type of data can be seen when the flow is

“Process industry plants handle hydrocarbons / corrosive chemicals / poisonous gases, any leakage from any equipment leads to hazardous situation in the plant. At high temperature & pressure, situations become more critical, particularly when operating temperature remains
above auto ignition temperature. Hence, it is of upmost importance that handled liquid inside the
pumps/ valves shall remain tightly contained. But unfortunately, both pumps & valves have many weak points / many joints through which there remain a possibility of leakage if proper sealing is not done or proper metallurgy is not used.”
“EPC starts after final investment decision by the owner. The execution phase of industrial projects consists of detailed engineering, procurement and construction, normally known as the EPC. An EPC contractor has to execute and deliver the project with in an agreed time and budget,
