3D level Workflow

I have started designing a medieval timed 3d level using unity engine, inspire from shadow of Mordor. My plan is to make it a mystical and fantasy level. I am going it an outdoor level with trees and other objects on it. It will be a medieval time fantasy level inspired by shadow of Mordor and Skyrim. I will be adding basic environmental features like mountains, trees grass, water etc.

The terrain I made is flat in some areas and I have made some mountains around the terrain where the player won’t be able to go to. I made different types of landscapes in the map like mountains, flat lands and rocky areas on the base of the mountains. I have used a dirt texture mixed with a grass texture on the mountain to make it look like there are shrubs and little plants growing on the mountain.

I have textured the floor of the terrain with textures for grass and dirt. I then added trees and grass to the terrain to make it look more alive and because I was trying to make an outdoor medieval scene which obviously is going to need a bit of nature to it like a little forest or just trees and grass.

I also wanted to make a waterfall so I made the terrain needed for a waterfall, by making one mountain have a really vertical slope so that the waterfall would be there. Then I made a river bed to make a river so the water from the waterfall would go there. Also added some rocks where the water would fall so I could add a steam effect later

I have implemented a skybox to the level. The skybox I have implemented is a nigh time skybox with a visible moon and fairly clear skies. I have also put in lighting for the level and I have made the lighting really dim because this is a night scene I am going for. I made it a night scene because it’s a different approach to a level, and I like to put in elements and animations like campfires and fire torches to the level.

I then worked on getting and animation for the waterfall. Luckily I found one in the asset store that would suit this scene perfectly. It had the animation of water falling down with a particle of accelerator of particle walling down from the top and a texture of water just moving down on this plane that would act as water. I also found a steam effect prefab that could act as the steam of water when the water collides with a rock.

I started working on the water and its moving animations. I had hard time getting good looking water because we had to use the free version of unity to make this level; the water in this level is not good looking and didn’t even have any kind of animations. I found a way around it; I used a script file that could give me water that is in the pro version for free, so I used this script file on a plane and added a water texture to

make the water in this level. This script file gave me the option to control how the water looks including the colour of the water, the waves and etc. I made the water look identical to the water texture in the waterfall. I also added an effect so the water will reflect the moon on my skybox too to make it look more dynamic.

I then got some models from the internet and textured them to make mystical place with runes etc. I made it look like a rune spot from Skyrim since this level is inspired from it too. I added some ruins from buildings to make it look like a place that is ancient and now has been partly destroyed. I added a fire that is being lit from wood logs, sort of like a campfire so the player will get an idea that this place it still a place of worship or some kind of temple. I was also trying out some character animations and I found horse with an idle animation.

Since the there is a river that goes through the map I used a 3d model of a bridge and the put collision in so the player can cross through the river easily and because it would make more sense if there is a bridge to cross the river. The pictures below are some of the other prefabs I added to the world that would give it a more medieval fantasy genre look to it.

Shows below is a village or a town with some houses a taverns to show some life, give the player the sence that it is populated and because its night time I no one is outside. I added some lamps and fire torches and also made the sky dim to make It look more like a night scene.
