Fact Finding

Importance of the FlagThe flag is considered the symbol of a nation’s survival through the trials and tribulations in its history. Likewise, TNTT’s flag symbolizes its life as a Catholic youth organization. Because of a flag’s symbolic significance, it must be treated and displayed with dignity. The flagpole serves the purpose of making the flag(s) boldly present and visible for everyone to see.

Standard Design of a Flagpole Similar to the campgate, the flagpole can also make an impression on the campers and visitors, so the followed guidelines apply when constructing a flagpole:

Free-standing above ground Made from Natural Materials Visually Appealing

Additionally, the flagpole should be high enough that it can be visible to campers from most areas of the camp. A good length for a flagpole is about 15-25 feet.

Unlike a campgate, however, a flagpole is used in frequently in ceremonies such as Opening Ceremony, Award Ceremony, and Closing Ceremony. Due to the dignified nature of these events, the creativity in flagpole design is muted in favor of seriousness. There are several standard flagpole designs, each

used depending on the number of flags and materials available. Choose of the designs suggested below and try not to deviate from them.

The Simple FlagpoleAs its name suggests, the simple flagpole is the easiest to construct. It holds one flag and is constructed by lashing 2-3 long pieces of wood together and then anchored to the ground.

Ceremonial FlagpoleThe ceremonial flagpole is a variation on the simple flag pole. It has a cross-beam that can be used to hold additional flags. It is commonly used in TNTT, because we often raise the American, Vietnamese, and TNTT flags.

The Floating Flagpole (Skylon flagpole)The floating flagpole is the most difficult to construct, but it is also among the most appealing and impressive flagpoles. As the name suggests, the

floating flagpole does not touch the ground. It is suspended in air by tying ropes to support poles.

A combination of the ceremonials and floating flagpoles can be done by adding a cross pole.
