Solar Instructor Training Network (SITN) As the recipient of the Department of Energy’s Solar Instructor Training Network grant for the South-Central region, Houston Community College-NE is required to establish a network of educational, industry, and state partners to ensure the availability and effectiveness of solar installation training throughout the region. In partne rship with Ontility (training providers fo r the South-Central region), the South-Central Solar Instructor Training Network has an overall goal to continue to develop relationships with institutions and organizations that are seeking to provide s olar training by offering solar training opportunities. This proje ct is intended to provide solar training opportunities to educators at institutions that will start or improve training programs in solar installation. Our Fall/Win ter 2011-12 newsletter high lights new 2011-2012 educational institutions that we are collaborating with this year : Lamar Institute of Technolo gy, the Women’s Intercultural Center, New Mexico Junior College, and St. Phillips College. This newsletter also highlights HCC’s visit from Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu and Ontility’s Solar Electric class training. United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu, led a State of the Union Town Hall meeting at Houston Community College on February 2, 2012. Hundreds turned out to hear Dr. Chu’s discussion of President Obama’s Blueprint for an America Built to Last, underscoring the Administration’s commitment to an all -of- the-above approach that develops every available source of A merican energy.
