Page 5: 2nd Sunday in ordinary time January 19, 2020€¦ · 19/01/2020  · S T.PETER ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH 2nd Sunday in ordinary time January 19, 2020 Confessions Saturday 2:30PM Wednesday

Fr. Tomasz’s Weekly Reflection Opinion, judgment, or point of view on someone depend on a personal experience. We often hear those or similar statements: "I think…, I believe that…, I’ve heard…, they said…" And that's when we experience what people can come up with. This is the area where gossip, slander or insult is born.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is a testimony. Unlike opinion, testimony is a statement of a fact. And so we hear today the testimony of the prophet Isaiah, the testimony of the mission of the Servant of the Lord. Since the chosen people were turning away from God, they needed conversion, and thus a right person who could help them enter the path of justice and love. That person is the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who has perfectly accomplished the Father's will in his life, the plan of human salvation. He is the Head of all creation, He is the light for the gentiles. St. Paul, on the other hand, in the Letter to the Corinthians, testifies to himself that he is an apostle instituted by Christ.

St. John the Baptist comes with the very mission to testify about the Christ. Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me. Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God. says John in today's Gospel. The sin of the world every sin: the original sin, which Adam brought upon his offspring, and the personal sins of people of all times. Christ is our hope of salvation. He himself is a strong call for hope, for he came with a mission to forgive and to heal the wounds caused by sin.

In the light of those testimonies, what should our witness of Christ look like? What should be the way to testify? How can we proclaim the Truth? By actively practicing our faith. Just coming to the church is a profession of our faith, not to mention praying together, singing or receiving Holy Communion. Our religious practices, becoming so alien to many declared Catholics, shape the daily profession of our faith. Where a religious book or priest cannot reach, a faithful Christian reaches and spreads the joy of his heart in his surroundings. Then, like John, he becomes a signpost showing not an easy but the only certain path to the true and lasting happiness. We have received faith not to light only our hearts, but to light up the entire world.

Let us open up to God's voice every day. Let's raise our eyes to Jesus every morning. Let us turn to him as often as possible during the day. Let us be persistent, which will allow us to keep peace of heart and know the will of Him who, as the Lamb of God, takes away human iniquities. And He constantly gives us the power to become the children of God. Not because of an opinion, not because of a point of view, but because of the Truth that we testify to.
