Dr. Swagatam Doss

Need of Deep learning and fast paced advancements

Dr. Swagatam Doss spoke about the need of deep learning and fast paced advancements that are happening in the field of deep learning. Deep learning is a type of machine learning that mimics the neuron of the neural networks present in the human brain. Deep learning models can be visualized as a set of points each of which makes a decision based on the inputs to the node. This sort of network is similar to the biological nervous system, with each node acting as a neuron within a larger network. Thus, deep learning models are a class of artificial neural networks. Deep learning algorithms learn progressively about the image as it goes through each neural network layer. Early layers learn how to detect low-level features like edges, and subsequent layers combine features from earlier layers into a more holistic and complete representation.

Dr. Doss briefly explained the working and the basic difference in machine learning and deep learning. He explained the history and advancements in the field of neural networks. He spoke about the problems faced by different neural network models. He spoke about semi-supervised learning.; midway between supervised learning (requires labeled dataset) and unsupervised learning (does not require labeled dataset) to show how we can reduce the high cost task of labelling images. He also briefly explained about Deep Neural Network.

Ravinder Pal Singh Digital disruption and the need for its successful and sustainable advancement Ravinder Pal Singh of DELL was also invited to give a talk on the effect’s digital disruption and the need for its successful and sustainable advancement. Digital disruption has created a new way of lifestyle for us. We do not even realize how deeply we rely on technology in a daily basis. According to a survey, 82% of population will work integrated with machines as a team in the next 5 years. Mr. Singh introduced to us IQT (Intelligent Quotient of Things) which is an advancement on IoT to make systems from smart to intelligent. The biggest market for IQT is for real time dynamic advertising. He mentioned that India is still considered a agricultural economy and that this will change with the progress of India by initiatives like the Digital India movement. Digital architectures will become the new urban planners of the digital cities to be evolved. He also said that smart cities can only be developed with smart people.
