    MBBS FORMS FROM MAY 11The sale of MBBS and BDS application forms will begin on May 11.

    R.G. Sukumar, Secretary of the selection committee, Directorate ofMedical Education, said a notification would be published inNewspapers on May 10.

    Forms will be available at all 19 government medical colleges.Students can also download it online. Sales will last until May 28. Thedeadline for submitting filled-in application forms is 5 p.m on May 29,he said. The number of government seat will be 2,555. However, ifMCIs approval comes in for the government medical college atOmandurar Estate in Chennai, an additional 100 seats will be available,said S.Geetha Lakshmi, Director of Medical Education, We will get toknow the MCIs decision by next month and if approval comes through,the seats will be handed over to the selection committee, she said.

    About 40,000 application forms will be printed this year, if moreneeded they will be printed, Mr.Sukumar said.

    ENGINEERING FORMS FROM MAY 6

    Sale of application froms for admission through single windowcounselling to B.E/B.Tech programmes offered by Anna Universityaffiliated colleges will begin on May 6. Notification to this effect will beissued on May 4. The forms will be sold at 60 centres, including atAnna University, Chennai. The last date for sale of application forms isMay 27. However, in Anna University, Chennai, sale of forms willcontinue till May 29. The last date to submit filled-in forms is 5 p.m onMay 29.

    Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Secretary V.Rhymend Uthariarajsaid, 1.8 to 1.9 lakh students will be admitted through single windowcounselling. Forms are priced Rs.500 for general category applicantsand for applicants from Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribecommunities, they will be sold at Rs.250. The list of centres is availablein the universities website www.annauniv.edu/tnea2015.

    EXTRA SLEEP MAY HELP RESTORE MEMORY

    An extra three to four hours of sleep daily over as little as two dayshas been found to restore memories in fruit flies with an Alzheimers -like condition. The findings have implications for humans as accordingto the researchers, brain mechanisms that control sleep in fruit lice aresimilar to those see in human beings. Sleep helps the brain reinforceconnections between brain cells that encode important memeories andcut back connections that encode useless information, the researcherssaid. The study appear online in the journal Current Biology IANS.
