Hosted on Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 at the Avalon Hollywood (1735 Vine St. Los Angeles, CA 90028), with Jin&Quinn, Armand de Brignac and TNT Agency who will provide its stunning hair and make-up styling for the models.The first runway show at 8:30pm will consist of emerging designers Michail Sykianakis (Mihail Kian), Brenna Hoffman (XYST), Lauren Stucky (Lauren Stucky), Camiille Liim (Camille Liim), Noah Landis (Kent Denim), Nausheen Gilkar (Sheen) and Candice Wu (Candice Wu Couture).With acts such as LMFAO, Colbie Caillat, and Bruno Mars featured in past events, Project Ethos will showcase its next music pick -- Los Angeles based Virtual Boy, at 9pm. Live painting from Lab Art’s Meex One, Felix, Septerhed and Philip Lumbang will be set bordering the main room with installations in the lobby and Honey from Flewnt and from Salazar Contemporary Art, Spenser Little.

Growing up in the Daveyton township in Johannesburg’s East Rand, LIRA’s world was shaped by the harsh realities of South Africa’s formerly ubiquitous racial and socioeconomic arbiter: apartheid. However, the sociopolitical constraints leveled at her generation did little to inhibit the urbane aspirations and dampen their resilient spirit of transcendence. “In South Africa, we became very integrated with not only other black cultures, but people of all backgrounds. This made us thirsty to integrate into the world. My generation was the first to break free of our mental limitations and physical boundaries and set ourselves free in a true sense. It celebrates the human spirit, which can never be caged completely. A person can put you in a cage and hurt you, but they can’t touch your spirit and your mind. It’s celebrating those freedoms.”

In 2003 LIRA’s debut album All My Love earned the grand distinction of dethroning an international superstar from the top spot, the title track knocked Beyonce’s “Dangerously in Love” off the #1 position on South African charts, marking the first time in history a local song had been played as frequently. LIRA went on to release three more platinum selling albums including Feel Good (2006), Soul in Mind (2008) and Return to Love (2011) while the title track to her debut album “Feel Good” officially became the first music video from a South African artist featured on VH-1. In 2010, LIRA demonstrated her international popularity with her movie debut, playing a prominent role in director Antonio Falduto’s The Italian Consulate. That summer, she joined Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, K’Naan and John Legend at the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Concert to perform a rousing rendition of Miriam Makeba’s crossover classic “Pata Pata.” Soon after, she was selected to perform as part of former South African president Nelson Mandela’s 92nd birthday celebration telecast. Her performance of the popular Labi Siffre anti-apartheid tune and Mandela favorite “(Something Inside) So Strong” with the Soweto Spiritual Singers proved to be one of the most stunning live vocal performances in her career to date.

Ahora que hemos dejado en manos de Alemania el poder de decidir entre el Bien y el Mal en asuntos económicos, para huir de la crítica feroz al teutón queremos recordar lo acertados que siempre están los turistas del país de Angela Merkel a la hora de colonizar destinos inolvidables. Uno de esos casos es el de la localidad búlgara de Nessebar, la Mesembria griega a la que se accede por un istmo mínimo que de romperse un día convertiría a la ciudad en un paraje comparable a las islas croatas del Adriático. Nessebar fue isla en su juventud, pero Bulgaria no quiso dejarla a merced de una conexión en transporte marítimo y construyó para la edad madura de la ciudad del Mar Negro esta lengua de tierra que la conecta con tierra firme.

En sus años mozos, aquellos de los asentamientos de los imperios, bizantinos, búlgaros y otomanos pisaron sus empedrados, trazando el escenario perfecto para que en 1983 fuera declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad. De aquellos tiempos son sus 42 iglesias, algunas de ellas diminutas, capillas con todo el encanto y la emoción que cada uno le ponga a la religiosidad y con las que necesariamente uno se tropieza en esta pequeña cajita de música que es Nessebar, repleta de carteles en alemán, por la predilección que parecen sentir nuestros vecinos europeos por caminar por estos lares. Para ellos y para usted si lo que le gusta es el chafardeo de un buen mercadillo, en sus estrechas calles se topará con los adminículos ready-made para viajeros: No regrese a casa sin el clásico mantel de estampados búlgaros que le recordarán vivamente a los que adornan los mesones castellanos, o si es más selecto disfrute con el siempre apreciado encaje de bolillos de las hilanderas locales, mientras se asoma a ese oscuro Ponto Euxino como los restos de las murallas tracias, complaciéndose del sosiego o paladeando el aroma a madera de las casas del llamado renacimiento nacional de hace dos siglos –sí ya hace dos siglos del XIX- y en las que uno se imagina perfectamente a los oriundos asomándose a los ventanales mientras se oye de fondo el frufrú de las enaguas bajo la falda.

Un paseo por el tiempo en apenas 31.852 km2 y cuya guinda son las playas de Sunny Beach, eso sí, algo más populosas y con mucho menos encanto, pero donde podrá divertirse en sus locales nocturnos hasta altas horas de la madrugada si antes ha picado un cascaval pane (exquisito queso empanado) con una Zagorka (cerveza búlgara) bien fría.No se preocupe que no se perderá, pero anote en el cuaderno de bitácora la iglesia del Cristo Pantócrator, los frescos de San Stefan con ese olor tan característico de las velas que alumbran los espacios litúrgicos ortodoxos, con sus perfiles adelgazados frente a nuestros rollizos cirios pascuales y, claro, asómese a algún molino para percibir las diferencias con los que no llegó a combatir nunca Don Quijote. Si se da prisa quizá llegue para contemplar las cráteras que se exhiben en el Museo Arqueológico de la que llaman la Perla del Mar Negro y a las que puede ponerles acompañamiento musical escuchando las piezas de Luis Paniagua, músico madrileño experto en recrear los sonidos de la antigüedad.

Nessebar is one of the most ancient towns in Europe, arising more than 3200 years ago.
