2BA JAZZ PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Assessment Procedure/Notes :

4 PIECES WILL BE PERFORMED IN TOTAL DURING THE 20 MINUTERECITAL (this must include 1 x Rhythm Changes and 1 x Own Choice -students must strictly adhere to the 20 min. timescale)

10 PIECES IN TOTAL MUST BE PREPARED FROM MEMORY (incl. RhythmChanges/Own Choice)

STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE A CLEAR WRITTEN LIST OF THEIR 10REPERTOIRE CHOICES TO THE EXAMINERS ON THE DAY OF THEIRPERFORMANCE USING THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS:

LIST A (stating which sections) LIST B LIST C LIST D RHYTHMCHANGES - OWN CHOICE

Assessment Requirements:

8 PIECES TO BE PREPARED FROM THE REPERTOIRE LISTS A to D:

3 pieces are to be prepared from LIST A Sections 1 (& 2optional)

ONE of these 3 prepared pieces may be chosen from the OPTIONALSection 2 list.

2 pieces are to be prepared from LIST B

2 piece to be prepared from LIST C

1 piece to be prepared from LIST D

2 pieces drawn from the above 8 will be chosen by the examiners.Students are not allowed to play any of their 8 submitted repertoire list

pieces that the examiners have not selected.

Common keys are suggested for the lists (however students playingmelodic/harmonic instruments should work with their 1-1 tutors indeveloping facility in all 12 keys)

1 x RHYTHM CHANGES TO BE PREPARED:

Rhythm changes (i.e. must contain I/IIIm7-VI7-II-V7 in bars 1-4) at anappropriate tempo.

Students may play any rhythm changes theme with the approval of their

instrumental tutor.

This piece is guaranteed to be played during the exam.
