Things seem to be getting busier rather than winding down at Skye PS. Today is our much anticipated ‘A-thon’. The weather is on our side for once and there is a hive of activity happening this morning to make it a great day for our community. I would like to thank all of our PTF and helpers who are here this morning to pull it all together. My job was to head over to Berwick to pick up 25kg of roast beef which filled my car with an absolutely delicious aroma. John was busy cooking dozens of sausages and an army of helpers were preparing rolls and treats for our students and families to enjoy. Behind the scene we had a team of teachers organising events for the amazing race, ridiculous relays and the skip-a-thon. As always I am immensely proud to the achievements of our students. Grade 3 enjoyed a fantastic camp and I received wonderful feedback on how well they behaved and contributed to the activities with respect and resilience. Congratulations Grade 3 and thank you for being wonderful ambassadors for our school. I would also send a big shout out to our 3/4 Boys All Stars team (Jye, Noah, Diesel, Levi, Toby, Michael, Dylan, Jarrod, Kody and Ben) who made it to State Hoop Time Finals for basketball. Congratulations to all of the players on not only their sporting ability but their sportsmanship and respect for the game. A very special congratulations to our Prep teacher Mrs Jung and her husband on the safe arrival of her beautiful baby girl. Alexis was born on the Wednesday 27th at a healthy 2.7kg (5.9lb). As expected she is absolutely divine and we cannot wait to meet her. Mum and baby are both doing well.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Emily Cooper from
Grade 6B on winning the Karrum
Karrum Writing Competition for our
school.
Well done Emily we are very proud of
you.
Hoop Time has been a huge success in 2019. We had around 110 students participate in Years
Three to Six which is a record for Skye Primary. We had a number of students who were able
to experience playing their first formal basketball game. Skye Primary School brought home 5
Grand Final wins on the District tournament days, which was a record for our school. These
teams then gave their best efforts during the Regional Final tournaments.
The excitement continued when our Year Three and Four Boys All Star team came home from their Regional
Final day with a State Finals berth, a first for Skye Primary School. They played their best basketball on the day
and out of 4,800 teams, who started during the District tournaments, came home being one of the top 12 in
the state.
It has been a pleasure to watch our students represent Skye Primary School in so many positive ways. Thank
you to all of the volunteer coaches, scorers, timers, crowd controllers, teachers and most of all the students
who decided to play this year. I cannot wait to see what 2020 will bring!
Mrs Herrmann
Congratulations to our State Finals Team: Dylan, JaI, Michael, Kody, Ben, Noah, Levi, Jarrod, Diezel, Toby

Kitchen Garden I would like to thank the Adlam family for sharing one of their favourite recipes (Asian-Spiced Kedgeree) with us and donating the salmon and limes to make this meal with the Kitchen Garden classes this week. It was delicious!
Asian-Spiced Kedgeree Recipe source: Nigella Lawson
Ingredients:
What to do:
Preheat the oven to 220°C.
Pour the water into a roasting dish, add the lime leaves and then the salmon.
Cover the dish with foil, put in the oven and cook for about 15 minutes.
Remove the dish from the oven and drain the liquid off into a jug.
Keep the fish warm simply by replacing the foil on the dish.
Melt the butter in a wide, heavy saucepan that has a tight-fitting lid, and add the oil to stop the butter burning.
Soften the onion in the pan and add the spices, then keep cooking until the onion is soft.
Add the rice and stir with a wooden spoon so that it is well coated.
Pour in the reserved liquid from the jug (about 500ml) and stir before covering with the lid and cook gently for about 15 minutes.
At the end of the cooking time, when the rice is tender, turn off the heat, remove the lid, cover the pan with a tea towel and then replace the lid.
Just before you want to eat, drain off any extra liquid that’s collected in the dish with the salmon, then flake the fish with a fork. Add the rice, eggs, coriander, lime juice and a drop or two of fish sauce.
Stir gently to mix.
Sprinkle over the zest from two juiced halves of the lime and serve.
500ml cold water for poaching the fish
2 lime leaves, torn into pieces
4 salmon fillets (approximately 3cm thick and around 750g in total)
45g unsalted butter
1 teaspoon oil
1 onion, chopped finely
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
225g basmati rice
3 hard-boiled eggs, quartered
3 tablespoons chopped coriander, plus more for sprinkling
Juice and zest of a lime plus more lime segments to serve
Fish sauce (nam pla) to taste
