PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3 PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

I hope that most of you have enjoyed reading the article regarding “Happy Are Those Who Are Called to His Supper” of the USCCB, the aimed of this article was to raise awareness in each one of us who have the grace to receive our Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist on Sunday. There are many of us who take for granted this August Sacrament, but we should be more conscious of whom we are receiving and thus, our heart has to be well dispose for a worthy reception. This week we are cele-brating the Easter Triduum which begin with the Lord’s Supper. We will commemorate the institu-tion of the Holy Eucharist as the greatest sacrament that the Lord left us. The Easter Triduum is often commonly referred to simply as the Triduum (with a capital T). However, a triduum is simply any three-day period of prayer, recalling the three days that Christ spent in the tomb. Encompassing the final three days of the discipline of Lent, the Easter Triduum has traditionally been observed with even stricter fasting and abstinence, as well as prayer and alms-giving. Since 1956, however, the Paschal Triduum has been regarded as its own liturgical season, and thus liturgically Lent ends before the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. As an act of penitential devotion you are all invited on Good Friday for morning prayer at 9 am and then the stations of the Cross by the streets of Mankato and N. Mankato. We leave SSPP around 9:15 am. Extraordinary Holy Year (Jubilee of Mercy): On March 13, in St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Francis declared the cele-bration of an extraordinary Holy year. The Jubilee announcement was made during the homily of the penitential celebra-tion with which he opened the “24 Hours for the Lord” initiative. This “Jubilee of Mercy” will commence with the opening of the Holy Door in the Vatican Basilica on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, and will conclude on November 20, 2016 with the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The Papal Bull will be made public on Divine Mercy Sunday, 12 April, the Feast day instituted by St. John Paul II and celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Confessions: following the desire of Pope Francis to open the door of mercy to all. We are adding an extra hour for confessions during Holy Week. There will be individual confession on March 31st and April 1st at 11 am– 12 noon. On Holy Thursday after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper there will be confession from 10 pm to 11 pm. Remember that you are encourage to stay for a suitable period of time during the night in the church in adoration before the Blessed Sacra-ment that has been solemnly reserved. Novena to the Divine Mercy: Remember to pray the Novena to Divine Mercy. On Good Friday, 1937 Jesus requested that St. Faustina make a special novena before the Feast of Mercy, from Good Friday through the following Saturday. He, himself, dictated the intentions for each day. It is also recommended that following the novena, prayers be said to-gether with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Finally, this weekend we begin the most holy of all of the weeks. The name itself says it, our Lord Jesus is the one who by his suffering, cross, death and resurrection renewed us in him so that we may become a holy people. I invite you to take time during this Holy Week to meditate on the paschal mystery, our gratitude for such blessings has to be shown by a true contrition manifested in the sacrament of Confession and through our participation in the Easter Triduum. The fruits of the season of lent will be given to us as how we enter into this Holy Week. May the Lord Jesus bless you and increase your faith and love in him. Happy Easter! Fr. Mariano Varela, IVE

If you have not yet made your pledge to the 2015 Catholic Ministries Appeal, please con-sider doing it this week. As good stewards, we are all called to share our gifts. Please be generous in your sharing

A Good Steward Hundreds of People who have become tithers or sacrificial giv-ers testify their motivation for giving is radically changed; they give cheerfully and generously out of gratitude for the gift they have received from God. Be-cause they give to God first be-fore taking care of their obliga-tions, they have established pri-orities in their lives and get along

on less. Their needs are met, not necessarily all their wants. They have increase awareness and appreciation of the ongoing presence of the Lord in their lives and in creation. They experience a sense of peacefulness in sharing time, talent, and money generously with Church and charity; no longer do requests for donations cause anger. They want to share their faith and the experience of stewardship with others: they are evangelizers.

No Session - Holy Week

Hungering for Seeds of Home We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters into Jerusalem, a commu-nity he knew well. CRS Rice Bowl asks us, too, to prayerfully enter into our own commu-nities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives?

Rice Bowls may be brought to Church and placed in the specific box in the Narthex of Church or given to an usher. Thank you for supporting our brothers and sisters in Christ! Donations are also accepted by cash or writing a check to SSPP with writing “CRS” in the memo section.

THE TRIDUUM refers to the 3 days in which the Catho-lic Church remembers the events that are at the center of our Faith. The way that the Church remembers these events is very purposeful. We remember them in a way that recalls the events of the Passion and death of Christ not just as something in the past, but something that changes us today. This particular way of remembering is called the liturgy: the public prayer of the Church, a prayer that transforms the people that enter into it. The 3 days include actions that are not part of the “normal” Masses that we go to every Sunday, and these special parts of the Mass help us understand the central events of our Faith. http://lifeteen.com/triduum/

Mankato Serra Club IN TALKING WITH YOUR CHILDREN, have you neglected to raise the call to Church ministry? The pro-cess of answering God’s call begins in childhood. Throughout adolescence and adulthood, the atti-tudes assumed in childhood begin to influence the course of one’s life. A vocation or a talent will not grow to fruition unless it is nurtured n childhood and adoles-cence by a parent. Often children talk about what they want to be “when they grow up”: doctors, lawyers, ath-letes, nurses, movie stars, teachers, carpenters. They may talk about these roles, but do they ever talk about being a priest, sister or brother? You are the hand of God encourage your children to consider Church minis-try.
